Why do you consider this a dumb poll? It's naive to think this wasn't/isn't a legitimate possibility and concern. I just wondered how others felt about it.
Yeah...not like anyone's ever tried to kill the President before. I'm sure one that certain cross sections of America have a deep hatred for before he even takes office will be as safe as any we've ever had! Likely? No. Realistic? You're naive to say otherwise.
the sophistication of the secret service is not even close to what it was when Reagan was shot. The technology and importance placed on safety and the power of the Secret service has increased exponentially. They can move their entire operation anywhere in a matter of hours and now have total control over anywhere the president walks.
The poll is legit regardless of how you feel about it personally. The topic has been on a lot of people's minds. If it's not a realistic concern (as you say), that doesn't mean it isn't worthy of discussion here.
I never said anyone was stupid, I just said it is totally unrealistic in this post 9/11 era we live in. If it is on anyone's minds they are either hateful or have a huge chip on their shoulder and cannot accept good things.

Who mentioned the word "stupid"? Where did that come from? Maybe you haven't, but I've discussed the possibility of Obama being assassinated with several people who brought it up. Space Ghost, what's wrong with having a poll to open up discussion? Being nitpicky, no?
I thought it was implied. I think the discussion comes mostly from people who are just anti-government and refuse to believe anything that they want to happen could actually happen.
The people I've discussed it with are worried about it happening. They are not anti-government kooks. Now, if it is truly unrealistic, educate us why that is so. What has changed with the Secret Service in the last 20 years regarding how they secure the president?

Just to be clear I have no problem with the poll because a poll is nothing but I am surprised how many people think a thing is still possible. So in my case the poll was useful.
inappropriate would be the correct term to describe this thread/poll. there's no reason to poll/survey/start an office pool (which is happening in parts of the country) on the subject matter of assassination. hate crimes and death threats are on the rise, we all know that. but you guys just invited government analysts into our message board by starting something like this...
Again, I disagree. The purpose of the poll is to gauge feelings and supplement discussion. It's not as if I'm asking if people want him assassinated.
