well if the refs didn't **** up the first call on howard we'd be up 2-1 If we didn't win the game would have lost, no shet
Look at the replay. LMA is running towards the basket and is right up against Lin. If he tried to pass it Dwight, LMA had a real shot to just swat that pass away. The only reason he was able to get it to Daniels was cause he threw it behind LMA.
I've watched the play no less than 10 times. In my own personal opinion, I think the pass to Daniels over the head of LMA was more risky than lobbing it up to Dwight. If he had raised his hands he would have easily deflected that pass. I think the only person that could have tried to make a play on Dwight was Lillard and that was a clear mismatch considering where he was and where Dwight was on the floor. A high lob would have done the trick. That said, Lin made a fine play and what turned out to be the best decision because it worked lol. Portland also ended up having to go for 3 instead of 2 which was huge. They've been making a bunch of highly improbable shots this series. I can see it now. LMA pick and roll, double team, open 3 by Lillard or Batum and we lose the game. Down 0-3
What if we started a bunch of threads about things that never happened should we still discuss them? Spoiler No!
What's sad about this argument... I watch that play... And thought, what would other point guards have done in that exact same situation? I then thought, only a handful would have even saved that possession to begin with....... Russ Westbrook.... Pat Beverley..... Maybe John Wall...... Maybe Steph Curry..... (Certainly not Ray Felton [would have watched helplessly].... Certainly not Ricky Rubio [not in his nature]..... Certainly not Tony Parker [not athletic enough]..... Certainly not Kyrie Irving [not athletic enough]....... Certainly not Steve Nash in his prime [would have watched]...... ) And of those would have come up with that loose ball, I think most would have shot a runner...... And ultimately, I can think of only two point guards right now who would have pulled off the exact same play, coming up with the loose ball and then finding Daniels..... Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul...............................
What if LMA missed a couple of those tough as shots in game 1 and 2....? We could have been up 3-0...
WOW! Thanks to those who actually answered the BASKETBALL question and didn't get their feelings hurt by taking it as a personal shot a Lin. I'm not even looking at "the player". I'm looking at the situation in the game which happen to include Lin. This was a play in the BASKETBALL GAME last night, and this is the GAME ACTION section of the BBS. And to all those with the replies of "well he made so shot so....". Come on! How many "what if" conversations do you have with your friends??? I was just trying to get everyone's thinking in that situation, that's all
I hear you dude. I thought about it too when it happened and again this morning. I decided Jeremy should get a pass though no matter the outcome of that shot because without him there was no play to be made in the first place.
Totally agree. I know everyone on this board who watched that replay last night (I actually noticed it live) thought to themselves "WOW Dwight was wide open". That's after they celebrated of course lol
You got to be kidding me. Dwight was guarded by someone and the rookie was wide open. It's simple x's and o's no matter how much experience you have. Sometimes it's not always by percentages but the moment. Just ask Harden. Please don't ever coach a basketball team.
Most other point guards would have had the courage to take the shot. Thankfully Jeremy has no confidence in his jumper and decided to pass to the more open guy. Williams ran in front of Dwight and Lin got scurred to lob. Great decision by Jeremy not to take the open shot
31 year old, 6'1" Mo Williams ran in front of a 6'10" Dwight Howard. Lin would've got murdered if Daniels didn't save his ass. Truth!
Dwight was under the basket with someone 7 inches smaller near to him. Lob it a bit and Lillard has no chance of catching it. On the other hand you have a rookie who barely played for the team and is in a high pressure playoff situation for the first time of his life, having to make a 3. The fg% difference between a standing lob executed for Dwight and a 3 is staggering no matter what you say, there's a high chance Troy misses and Portland has 10+ sec left with the game tied. It's about percentages, otherwise you don't understand how this sport works, you're always trying to create the highest chance of making a basket. Your last sentence is retarted, not going to comment on it, especially after your no substance post.
What Ifs change the game and the consequences, of course. But it's often an imaginary rabbit hole that distracts from making adjustments based on how reality actually played out imo.
