The problem is: other GMs are thinking likewise. Chase is the last white hope.

They might be but his contract is really low, so unless he is the centerpiece target of a deal, Morey can hold onto him..and give up picks instead.

True enough. But Bryan Colangelo is not one of those dummies. Neither are Geoff Petrie or Donnie Walsh, for that matter.

I'm giving Donnie Walsh (who has a remarkable track record over his long career) the benefit of the doubt here. He was painted into a corner by Isiah's stupid moves, and this was really his ONLY play (to clear maximum cap room at all costs and go for Lebron, etc.). This was the mandate that ownership gave him; and he accomplished that goal. If he were with any other team, I'm sure that he would have made some very good moves to accomplish THAT team's goals.

I agree, but at least they had a plan. The knicks will only have something like 17m committed to salaries, right?

You don't trade a guy with the same name as the biggest bank or it will be bad luck.

I never said lets sign them to mult-million dollar deals. The point of this thread is to talk about who would Morey plug in for Chase's spot. Matt Barnes came pretty cheap to the Magic.

uhh no. Odom is on the bench because they have no bench. Why have the Lakers struggled soo much this year? Because of their bench. They got away with it last year because they were healthy enough not to be affected by it. Let's not try to make it seem that a bench isn't important.

How do you know Scola is willing to come off the bench? If my memory serves me best, Scola struggled coming off the bench when he came to Houston. He only started to play well once he was inserted into the starting lineup. Granted we're talking about his first year but there's merit to this.

Not only that, you need to have a SG/SF that can come off the bench and give minutes. Last time I check those guys don't play that position.

This has like nothing to do with the question of who would fill Chase's spot.

Barbosa is signed till 2011-12 including a $7,600,000 player option. He's not going anywhere that overpaid.

Martell is in the same boat signed till 2012. He's got attitude problems too. I'd rather had kept Batum

I don't see how Donnie Walsh did anything to screw up NY. The man did a great job getting rid of Thomas' mistakes.

It was in response to a previous poster commenting about the Knicks picking up certain players. Sorry that it was not directly on point with the thread topic. Geez. Relax, dude.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Going through the loss of Von Wafer made DD strong, indeed.

I would love to hold onto Chase myself but if the Rockets plan on trading for an Allstar type player, Chase would be part of a deal unless Morey can use another chip. I can tell you that 29 other GM's would love to have a Chase on their team. If we can get a Chris Bosh, I'm ok with Chase being involved. For Al Jefferson? Not soo much.

This brings it back to the original question. What would Morey do to fill this void?

That was me that stated that NY would probably target one of those guys.

My mistake for taking it the wrong way. My bad. I had a Bima moment...

Those guys are owe a lot of money. We're looking for cheap players... Like real cheap from the draft or a Matt Barnes contract.

You started the thread with Travis Outlaw. What other implication could it be? You think Outlaw a vet minimum guy!?

As for Barnes, he's not cheaper than Budinger or Wafer. Morey has proven that he can get swingmen at cheaper prices.

The only player you can get cheap like that are problem guys w/o options looking to piggy back to the playoffs ala Barnes.

maybe Azubuike but he's got a player option at $3 mil.

    How about Ime Ukoka?

Matt Barnes could of gotten a better deal than what he received from Orlando. If Morey can somehow land Bosh, you don't think players like Outlaw wouldn't sign a vet minimum to be part of a contender? I think you're sadly mistaken.

Outlaw is a player coming off injury. His value is very low. The days of getting bloated up contracts are over my friend. This isn't the MLB.

Donnie Walsh cleared up their salary situation in two years. That accomplishment should be long remembered.

What do you mean by "Bima moment"???

Is that some sort of reference to my senility?

Or is that meant to be in deference to me? You know, like a great moment of being able to interact with me.

If the former, screw you! If the latter, you are right to be honored by that moment.

    :p
