Nobody touted him as a future MVP. He was touted as a dude who could consistently put up 20/5/5 for the next 12-15 years while being a solid deep threat and reliable defender, which he is still very likely to do.
If they are asking about taking on Wall's contract it probably means they are trying to get the Rockets #2 pick.
A few years ago? You mean less than a year ago, during his actual rookie season. Dude is barely 21 and younger than guys in this very draft. He has a whole lot of basketball ahead of him.
There isn't a single contract bad enough in the nba where you need to attach the #2 overall pick to get rid of it, even with fairly quality players in return.
Well, in my defense the Laker's vs. Heat playoff were quite forgettable because of the whole Covid thing... Still not an excuse. But, I guess Miami will sell the sophomore slump, to retain as much value as they can. I like Herro, but not for a #2 pick or Wood. And sure, it could turn out that Herro does turn into the next superstar, which looked possible during his playoff run (last year).... But I like the intrigue of Green and Mobley. I think those guys are going to be building blocks for a contender.
who said anything about #2 pick or wood. All ive seen was one of the late picks and take someone like gordon, in which case please miami help us
I'd trade the 23rd pick and a 2nd for Herro. He has the talent but got a long ways to go in order to get back on track. Working on his defense, his shot selection, handling the ball, etc. This is coming from a Herro fan too.
Knowing Riley, he would request the moon for anything he's got as an asset. I wasn't alluding that you said anything about the return we'd have to give Miami. Just my conjecture of what I'd expect Miami would want in return. Shoot Miami missed out on Harden, because they refused to include Herro in any trade package for Harden. Which tells me that Miami isn't going to sell Herro for anything less than a premium. And Miami doesn't have to, since they are a good team and Herro has the talent to be an all-star if he makes adjustments. But I would think Gordon or Wall, plus both later first rounders, and maybe next years 2nd round pick as well. I would think that would be fair, but I doubt Miami makes that type of move.
Wall's albatross of a contract becomes valuable as an expiring contract and therefore a means to clear cap space soon enough. Unless Wall impedes the development of the young backcourt, I wouldn't mind the Rockets keeping their powder dry where he is concerned. I certainly would not trade the #2 pick, or Tate just to off-load his salary.
But Herro is NOT a reliable defender right now on a Heat team that stresses and teaches defense. Herro is also NOT a solid deep threat, he is extremely streaky shooter. Even on lottery team like Rockets, not convinced Herro is a starter. Herro only fans believed that he was the all star or potential all star in a Harden trade. THIS was the basis of trading for him as core piece in Harden trade package instead of a young PROVEN all star like Ben Simmons. In fact, the Herro trade package for Harden would have included even fewer FRP and swaps than the Ben Simmons trade package because MIA lacks picks. I was there during all the back and forth, this discussion is very recent history and easily referenced in archives.
