Feel free to move or lock. If Adelman doesn't return, who would you like to see as the next head coach of the Rockets? I know many want Rick to return, but there is a possibility he does not return. If he doesn't return(for whatever reason), who would you like to see the Rockets hire? Also, who do you NOT want? Please try to be realistic with possible candidates. While coaches like Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich are nice, they're also very very unlikely.
Do not want either of the Browns.... Do not want former players like Ewing, Jackson or sorry to say it Turner or Elie.... Do not want a college coach trying to make the jump.... I'm open to other suggestions though
Honestly...I'd be giddy if they hired Brad Stevens from Butler. It's a major gamble and could backfire badly but if they get it right, we'd have our coach for many many moons. A realistic gamble would be Mario Elie, the guy is a Rocket and has paid his dues under great coaches. A realistic choice would probably be Elston Turner. It allows for a slightly different POV while maintaining what the team built on these past two seasons. I'm worried that Marc Iavaroni might be the guy...please god no.
Someone who knows the Adelman offense like the back of his hand. Someone who is young. Someone who can relate to today's NBA players. Someone who is familiar with and respected by players on this roster. Someone who is already on your payroll so you don't have to spend extra. Spoiler Might as well make him do something useful. Coaching should be a lot easier on Brad's knees. Feigan said they would love to have Stan Van Gundy, and would also consider Mike Brown, Dwane Casey, and Lawrence "The Original Teenage Coach" Frank.
Chuck can't coach full time, he has to be on the court. Brad, on the other hand... Of course, you'll need someone who knows defense. Introducing your lead assistant in charge of defense Spoiler Of course, Dikembe is probably older than Adelman...
I absolutely love Stan Van Gundy. Erik Spoelstra is easy on the eyes, but if Adelman doesn't return, Stan van Gundy!!
I don't want to even hear Larry Brown's name. Truth be told, Jeff Van Gundy is the guy I want if Adelman is not retained. There are several other solid coaching prospects out there (Mike Brown), but none that really excite me like JVG. In the end, I see us going with a young assistant. I don't know where the SVG rumors are from -- last time I checked, he's got a better coaching gig than any we can offer.
Van Gundy isn't coming back. He's said publicly that he doesn't want to get into coaching right now because moving (away from Houston, cough cough) and changing schools would be tough on his daughter.
1. Stan or Jeff Van Gundy 2. Mike Budzinger (sp?) 3. Elston Turner 4. Mike Brown 5. Lawrence Frank 6. Mario Elie 7. Rudy T. 8. Matt Bullard Do not want 1. Larry Brown 2. Mike D'Antoni 3. Any college coach.
I missed the Justice mention, but the Feigen mention is just pure speculation. "IF they flame out.. AND.. IF they are stupid enough.." Pipe dream, IMO. Actually, I don't even know if it's a pipe dream -- I prefer his brother.
I want to keep RA. I believe we can improve the defense by changing personnel. But if we get rid of RA...... SVG would be good Byron Scott (although it looks like he willingly wants to serve a term in purgatory) Mike Brown would be ok I don't watch a lot of college basketball, but I have watched a few of Kansas States Tourney games over the last couple years and I love their coach. Guys looks insane and is very intense. Also seems to be a solid tactician and leader.
