I can definitely identify with what you say here. I hear it all the time from my wife and a few times from my doctor.

Until the Bozo-in-Chief's minions purge the reliable data to their liking there is plenty of information at their website:

    https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/eligible-food-items
    https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap-retailer-data
    https://www.fns.usda.gov/data-and-statistics
    https://www.fns.usda.gov/report-finder

For career state and federal employees who are true believers in the programs we administer for the benefit of all Americans, we hope to outlast the tragicomedy that is this bizarro world administration. We see changes like this come and go but this current "idea" is a major boondoggle of bigly proportions.

If Trump (or any political figure) wants to tackle obesity involving all Americans I am all ears. Are you in favor of a tax on highly processed foods or are you only supporting the concept that those on government aid should?

The old tort reform lie. Worked quite well in Texas.

In some ways, I support this initiative, but for the most part, I'm opposed to government interfering in people's every day decisions -- such as purchasing food -- even if it comes from tax payers.

At the same time, far too much EBT money is spent on soft drinks and chips, this according to Ag Dpt. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/13/well/eat/food-stamp-snap-soda.html

This is an American issue and not specific to food stamp recipients.

We are getting more obese and eating less and less healthy foods. The worst part about the plan is I don't think it includes fresh foods and veggies.

I think it may be appropriate to consider going back to a system somewhat similar to how food stamps originally were conceived in 30s (it was actually about perishable food surpluses). We had orange stamps you purchased for a dollar that you could buy any food with, then blue stamps had a50 cent value and you got one with every orange stamp. Blue stamps could only be spent on certain items (milk, grain, etc).

I've also seen some private businesses offer extra fruits and veggies for EBT users, perhaps more incentives to GROCERY stores would be a benefit.

For all of those who are opposed to this plan, do you think that our current system of food stamp benefits is adequate or responsible to both the family in need and the tax payer? I don't. We need reforms, but we shouldn't be pushing top down mandates on where you can spend your dollars, we should however stop certain businesses from being included in the program (fast food -- this is a state by state decision on which restaurants can participate btw).

I do think some of what Trump does is to just throw crap out there to start a discussion. Maybe that's not his longterm goal, but I do feel like his style has forced the public to discuss some issues we might have just ignored for many more years (not that entitlement reform hasn't been discussed before, but it never goes anywhere).

Here is the typical trump supporter view of SNAP. That its supposed to be unpleasant, to hurt. After all, you are unemployed or under employed, its your fault. This will get you off your butt. Ignores the fact that the majority on SNAP are children and the aged.

We had something closer to that before Obamacare . It wasn't going well. In the case of healthcare, I don't think the distortion comes primarily from regulation. It comes from insurance, which masks price signals .

I wouldn't mind extra tax on those foods. I definitely don't think the government should provide foods that are unhealthy if there is an alternative.
