Haven’t looked but This year’s numbers would likely show the same sustained rate of FG and FGA in the paint which is anything within 15 ft but specifically within RA and 5-10 ft out.

I replied to the guy who said he was generational. He turned out to be a troll couple days later. I said athletic players are dime a dozen and i was throwing jab at draft nerds who were hyping up every kid with ~40 inches vertical. Athletic players are tend to rely on their athleticism and they are tend to be low bbiq players. Until 2 days ago people were criticizing Jalen for not attacking to the rim, not using his pace for his advantage. 2 days ago. He was more agressive in Nuggets game, attacked to the rim and i guess now he's elite at going to the ft line but it's his first aggressive game since Clippers game (20 days ago)

Nobody in the league has generational athleticism other than Ja Morant. If he can toy with the rules of physics then he's generational athleticism. Wilt, was that Bill Russell, Vince Carter, Lebron, Russ were generational probably Griffin was that dude. Spud Webb. When say generationally athletic people generally think about vertical but it's more about acceleration, deacceleration, agility. Jalen can't manipulate and beat his man with sudden starts and stops. He has one pace he can speed up but he can't slow down. He's not super agile like Kyrie. He can jump and run fast and these guys are dime a dozen in the league.

With this inconsistency, Jalen is not even a permanent starting 5 player.. As it seems
We all love Jalen and this is not a love that can make us blind.
This kid needs to learn some fundamentals, he does not make right decisions when playing and he is a guard.
He is not a mature player yet.
He has a great potential, but it is a question mark if this potential will match his #2 draft rank potential..
Because as a fan and as a franchise, if you draft someone at #1 or #2, your expectations from a player is alittle bit different.

If your #16 place draft/trade player in Sengun plays like a future all star and if your #2 draft plays with this inconsistency-the thing is Jalen does not give enough trust as much as Sengun and Jabari- then Houston we have a problem.
He is not a rookie, this is his third year..
Other than that, we all love Jalen, his success will catapult Houston..
We just want to see great and consistent Jalen.
Everybody loves and knows his potential, for that reason he was#2 draftpick, but potential is different, unleashing that potential is different.
If not, with this situation, he will be able to become a role player, a punch player in this league.
Keyword is consistency and basketball iq.
If you want to be a star, athleticism is not enough, you should.have a basketball iq, court vision.

That’s quite subjective. There’s no set standard or definition on what “generational athleticism” is. That’s why all these athleticism conversations are fruitless to me. Everyone that plays the game is athletic by definition. The difference between players aren’t even that great sometimes as people think. Having just a step or half a step on someone or being able to absorb contact or move people is all the difference. But if we are talking about who can currently get to the paint and score or accumulate fouls, this is a small elite group in the NBA and Jalen is in this group. There’s several on this site who use the word “athletic” and “dime a dozen” or “nothing special” in their comments and arguments. this is one of the biggest fallacies fans believe in.

Athletic players like Jalen aren't a dime a dozen. There's like...less than 10 of them in the league. And Jalen is comfortably in the top half of those. Ja Morant, Ant Edwards, Jalen Green, the Twins, Lebron, Zion....a few maybes like Shaedon Sharpe and Cam Whitmore.

Highly athletic NBA players really are a dime a dozen....I mean, we had 3 of them on the roster just last season, 2 of those 3 are gone and we still have 3 of them this season.

Freak athleticism by itself means basically nothing. KJ McDaniels had freak athleticism....how'd that work out for him?

Skill is what keeps players in the league.

Athleticism isn't just about how high one can jump if your criteria is that sure but there is acceleration, deacceleration, agility, stops and starts. Giannis, Lavine, Mitchell, Fox, Derrick Jones Jr., Miles Bridges, Simmons, Dennis Smith Jr., Kuminga, Gordon i can go on there are a lot of athletic players.

It’s simple to me. Can dude get in the paint and score consistently? Can he get to the paint and make plays consistently? Not every “athletic” player in the NBA can do this otherwise everyone would ball out and be a starter.

Of those you listed I'd only include Fox. The rest aren't on the same level as those I listed in terms of both speed and jumping ability.

Jalen is in rare air when it comes to his athletic gifts. Almost everyone in the NBA is athletic. Almost no one is "Jalen Green" level of athletic.

Because there are HORDES of great athletes that didn't make it. Jalen lacks fundamentals that will hold him back until he learns them if ever.

Man even if i accept that Jalen is top 10 athlete in the league (which i will never do) he's not a generational athlete therefore he's not tiers above others in terms of athletic gifts. 10000 is only 10 more than 9990. He's not playing against Eurocup players our opponents have very athletic players as well. So his athleticism alone will get him absolutely nowhere if he doesn't improve his handles, outside shooting etc. He doesn't even have a go to move yet why would we be happy that he's athletic?

Green hits 4.2 ft per game (31.7 mpg)
Malik Monk hits 3 ft per game (25 mpg)
Terry Rozier hits 3.5 ft per game (36 mpg)
Austin Reaves 3 ft (29 mpg)
    RJ 4.2 (29.6)
    Cam Thomas 3.8 (31.5 mpg)
    Sharpe 3.4 (37)

Like he scores 2 more points than other at best by going to the ft line. Can't make his layup consistently because he doesn't have the softest touch. His hands are tiny he can't really dunk on others (I'm sure he has some cool dunks but so does everyone else so don't mind posting them) Even Sengun posterizes one every other game. You people are in dreamland believing that his athleticism will really make a difference. He just can jump 5 inches higher than the average player and is faster. But he has one pace and can't stop and finish under the rim so he charges to the rim like a bull with full steam and misses his layup because when you are fast the ball is fast and it won't go in.

He's a 3rd year player getting real coaching for the 1st time. No one is assuming he's going to be a superstar on his athletic gifts alone. Not assuming he's not either.

He was our best player in Denver. Which is how this team is built right now. One of Fred, Alpy, Jalen, or Dillon is our best player on any given night.

Any update for the young crowd?

My 2 cents - the Rockets core right now:

    Sengun (franchise player)
    Tari, Bari, FVV, Dillon

Jalen (unfortunately close to dropping out of the core, but I hope he finds his shot and improves)

    in that order

    TBD: Amen, Cam

    2 for sure;

    Alpi and Bari

Those are the only 2 cemented in.

    Core next 2 years:
    - Sengun
    - J. Smith
    - Van Vleet
    - Brooks
    - Eason

    TBD: Jalen Green, Thompson, Whitmore.

After 2 years, depending on trades/FA/Draft, only 2 I'd confidently bet on after that are Alpi and Bari.

Green definitely has plus athleticism, but right now, he's like a post player with only one move. On the offensive end he needs to figure out how to break tendencies more often and on the defensive end he needs to figure out how to effectively use that athleticism to make a difference. On both ends he needs more focused effort. I look at Green and I see the athletic equivalent of a really smart student who breezed through college without studying much and now that they are working on a graduate degree, the expectations are way higher, they have no study skills, and their native intellect can't keep up with the stress and demands. The wall, it has been hit. He's got to learn and re-learn some things that others were forced to do earlier because they couldn't coast so far on their natural gifts.

If he is able to put it together, look out. If he can't, he's this generation's Harold Miner. Green plays a position where the basic skills for success (if not the athleticism) are more common than at, say, Center or PG. That makes him much more susceptible to being replaced with someone who is more consistent and predictable from game to game. There's a lot of discussion on here about Cam eventually taking the slot, but I see Jalen and Cam as essentially the same right now even given their age and experience differences--they both need to learn and apply things about the NBA game before they can become trusted contributors to a team with championship expectations. They both meet the physical requirements in spades, but can they meet their potential in the softer (but more critical) skills? Can they excel within the team?
