I don’t agree with this. Tate and Mathews have proven to be solid role players on great deals. There is no way you’d have to attach anything to get rid of them. I could see Charlotte doing #15 for Mathews and #17 easily. Charlotte gets a good role player on a fantastic contract. KMJ has value around the league. He is a lottery pick in redrafts by experts. Nix needs to show it at the NBA level but he played well enough in the G league at his age to warrant a second round pick. Tate is on a friendly enough deal that he can help a contender without hurting their cap space and he still has upside. Attaching assets to quality role players is only needed if the contracts are bad. These contracts are all great, making these guys plus assets. If value was based on whether a player was drafted or not, Christian Wood would have not been worth a 1st. I’d argue it’s possible that any of these players have more value around the league than KPJ.
I pointed it out in class lol. Grew up in North NJ- Yankees,Giants, Devils won multiple rings. Move to DC- Nats and Capitals win. Move to GA- Dawgs and Braves win. (also Im a Rams fan). Ive seen all of my teams win a ring save the Rockets lol. so its clear to me I need to get to Houston.
Saying Mathew’s & Tate are more valuable thank KPJ might be the most atrocious comment I’ve ever read lol As long as kpj shows growth in maturity he will make more money in his career than both these chumps combined. Hall of fame players continue to speak on his talent and you come post this ****….
Hope he shows growth then! This isn’t about what might happen in the future. If I’m a contender do I want a role player on a cheap deal or an inefficient head case? Gee I don’t know!
That’s why you keep KPJ and develop him. He has no value around the league. Unless you think his past drama is placated by him averaging 16 points on 16 shot attempts a game or averaging 12 points a game until the final stretch of the season while hoisting 7 3s a game and shooting well under league average from the field. Anyone can put up numbers and show flashes when thrust into a James Harden role. My concern with KPJ is his lack of court awareness and willingness to pass. If his strength is scoring, he objectively failed last season in that regard. Brandon Jennings did better on similar usage at the same age. Let’s be real.
No.... you keep him and develop him because he's the most talented player on the roster that everyone on the team loves playing with and are close to off the court. When you have a 22 year old combo guard who is the only player on the roster capable of running the point, PLUS being the best catch and shoot 3 point shooter in the league, PLUS the best defensive wing or guard on the roster..... you don't get rid of them, you develop them.
@D-rock . Only one I believe is the Mobley one because KPJ and Mobley's father got into it and told the USC coach get rid of KPJ or I take my son's out the program... Was not a hard decision...
I don't think he's the most talented player on the roster. Green is. But he definitely has the talent to be a core piece to a future good team. He only had one bad incident last season and other than that he seems to be a hard worker and his teammates like him. People are giving up on him too easily and slandering him. He showed improvement as the season progressed.
I think he's currently more talented than Green given that he's athletic plus has PG skills, plus is a better shooter, plus is a better defender. Green is significantly more athletic, but he's not quite as well rounded a player as KPJ as of now. That could change, but we just haven't seen it. Either way though, their games compliment one another and it'll just get even better if Green develops into a combo guard and gets more consistent with his 3 ball.
They are both great. We will have the best backcourt in the league over the next year or two. The KPJ hate is just from either holier than thou zealots or people that just don’t know basketball. I hope we can afford him after this year.
I mean his scoring efficiency was worse than Green's and Green has 2 less years of experience than him. That's with Green's horrible start. Green's final two months, KPJ never had a stretch like that in terms of volume and efficiency. (22 ppg on 60% ts). All around KPJ might be the better player right now this second but his better all "aroundedness" had to do with NBA experience. Green is more talented but much more of a greenhorn.
I don't think we're too far apart on this one, I lean one way, you lean the other, but I think we both agree that both players are very talented young guys who should be exciting to watch grow together. We'll likely know 5 years from now which one is the most talented, and I wouldn't be surprised either way.
