Cool! Good luck. We're there for our anniversary, which was why we were there last year. I forgot to mention the stained glass windows. This is the bedroom of the cabin we're staying at.
Yeah, even if we can't get in this weekend, we're definitely going there in the future. So, if we pick San Antonio, how about some suggestions for what to do around downtown for Saturday night?
Any other suggestions for Fredricksburg? I think I'm going to take her to tour some of the wineries in the area.
Here's a link for the wineries. http://www.texaswinetrail.com/wevents.html They're having a "Wine Lovers Trail" this weekend and next. The Becker Winery thing mentioned earlier is part of that, or perhaps just because it's close to Valentine's. Becker is also having a gourmet dinner that night. Fall Creek, outside of Tow, by Lake Buchanan (which isn't close to Fredericksburg), is having a lunch Saturday and Sunday this weekend, if you end up in that area. Der Lindenbaum is a good little German restaurant in Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg Brewing Company is a good brew pub and has garnered best brew pub in Texas twice. It also claims to be the oldest. All I care about is that the beer is good, lol. They have a B&B upstairs and/or behind it, although I've never stayed there. Friedhelm's Bavarian Inn is a good place to eat, if it's the place I'm thinking of. (if it's not huge, I was thinking of somewhere else!) Loads of antique shops and art galleries to check out along main street. If you have the time, and the weather is decent, you can always drive out to Enchanted Rock. Nothing like the Hill Country! (must be why we moved to Austin in 1980, from H-town)
Oh lawd...if you go to Fredricksburg (LOVE that city), there's this awesome candle shop where you can watch them make the highly intricate designs and whatnot. Sure it's old-ladyish, but after awhile you'll admit its amazing. A couple doors down is this shop where you can taste test all kinds of different jams and cheese spreads and peach salsas and stuff, I swear it's the reason I would get excited when my family took a trip to F-Burg. Well, that and picking up a dozen peaches on the side of the road. Sigh. I love that town.
That is a good suggestion, if you like wine...you can do a decent mini Napa excursion around Fredricksberg ! I am taking my wife to San Antonio on Saturday....gonna do the River walk and have a nice meal. Staying at the Hilton RiverWalk. San Antonio is always a good choice for a short weekend getaway. OOOOOOH, also Concan is great for doing a cabin and hot tub weekend.......it is on the Frio River......very nice.....and at this time of the year, inexpensive and romantic...... DD
Thanks again guys. I found another B&B in Fredericksburg kinda like the one Deckard is going to this weekend. I hope they have openings. A private hot tub or huge bathtub is a huge attraction...and that was my wife's idea. How far from San Antonio is Fredericksburg?
No doubt, buddy. No doubt. Honestly, I'm still in shock about the whole thing, but this weekend should bring it all home.
There's a complete PT boat on display there, and a complete B-25 twin engine bomber. My Dad was in a fight in the Pacific between a B-25 and a Japanese sub. (a long story) The B-25 was shot down, and he was picked up by a PT boat. Kinda flipped me out when I went to the museum.
I have here before. Do a search for B-25, submarine, PT boat, and WWII, and it should be in there, somewhere.
Deckard, I have seen the PT boat there, but where was the B-25? Was it in that little side section a couple of blocks away...by the PT boat? I have not been in a year or so.....I love that mueseum....and they also have that 2 man Japanese sub that was captured on the beach of Hawaii during the Pearl Harbor attack. Here is a link to some Frio river cabins DD
Go do a search for submarine by Deckard. It was in the middle of a pretty heated political debate so I don't want to bump that.
Question about Concan. If we do a family trip, is there a pool or anything at any of the places, or is it all river? TIA.
