Can't be mad at that. They definitely need to add height and a defensive presence to this team. They need to get tougher.
Jaygup is going to be a picture perfect 6 man coming off of the bench. I'm for this lineup but I'm also for being patient with KPJ and letting him grow into that PG role. They would also need a big coming off of the bench like a Jakob Poeltl.
Is there is any possible way the Rockets can move KPJ to 6th man without him absolutely losing his mind? If the balls fall the wrong way and we take Ivey then the only place for KPJ is SF or 6th man. I personally think he would be a great 6th man if his attitude allows it. Kind of like Harden did at OKC.
This is a good squad. I don't know if they keep Wood though and if they don't I'd hope they would add someone who can help them defensively. I'd be afraid of how KPJ handles coming off of the bench but that's a talented squad right there.
I like this lineup a lot. It looks like I'm in the minority on wanting to stick it out with KPJ. The potential is just too much for me to give up on him when he's only 21 years old and being asked to take on a vastly difficult position. I felt like he's been inconsistent due to his age but I was willing to give him time because of his flashes which are great at times.
He earned his contract and with a system is still a more then capable player. His here we should use him.
If Wall isn't traded this off-season the Rockets need to play him next year. Show he still has something. Give it a month or two and try to trade him.
So like I said in the post, I don't think this is what we'll see at the start of the season. I fully expect KPJ to be the starting point guard next year barring us drafting Ivey or an unforeseen trade of some kind. And I still think he's got potential and would want to see him getting 20-25 minutes; I just think he's better suited as a combo guard off the bench than as a starting PG. The problem is he's best suited to play a position (SG) he's never going to get to play long-term while Green is on this team.
PG - Anybody that can average a consistent 12/6 (Rubio type) SG- Green SF- KMJ PF- Chet or Wood I guess C- Wood or some behemoth *Bench would be awesome on paper
That's not something the team should have to worry about but unfortunately it is a question. His potential as a starting PG looks limited so a conversation about a role change seems inevitable. The way I see it if he is going to have an issue doing what is best for the team it's better to find out now so the team can cut its losses and move on.
Not sure why everyone is down on Porter. He's a better allround player than Green right now and is still young... Better he get his turnovers and immaturity done with while we're tanking... Not saying he's a star, but he's earned another year of data to figure out his ultimate role... Green has been efficient of late but his shortcomings on defense, rebounding, and court vision make me think he might still be another Lou Williams more than Kobe... still young of course... best option is to keep giving them minutes to find out...
Ideal Starting Lineup: PG: John Wall SG: Jalen Green SF: KPJ PF: Jabari Smith C: Alpi Bench: Mike Williams (drafted with Brooklyn pick) Josh Christopher Garrison Matthews KJ Martin Usman Garuba Daishen Nix
Garrison hasn't been good. So if Rockets is hellbent on KPJ, move him to the starting SF slot. A point guard Green KJ Martin or KPJ (or Wood if he's still around) Chet/Jabari/Paolo Sengun
