If we don't draft a point guard and we don't sign Harden, I think we should go after Tre Jones, 23-year-old restricted free agent from the Spurs.

He is a true point guard--if watch some tape, he goes into each half court set looking to make a play for others. He averaged in impressive 6.6 assists per game on a team with almost no scoring talent alongside him, while only playing 29 minutes. His per 36 minute assist numbers were significantly higher than KPJ's (8.1 versus 6.0), as was his assist percentage (31.5% versus 25.7%).

Jones' assist percentage is actually good for 16th-best in the league. He is a bit undersized, but he is an active defender with great instincts, good lateral quickness, and a high motor. Should be an upgrade on that end of the floor.

The biggest downside with Jones versus KPJ is that he does not have an outside shot yet. However, three points on that topic:
    • Jones shot 86% from the free throw line, good for 31st-best in the NBA this season. A high FT% is typically a good sign of a player being able to develop into a good shooter.
    • After the all-star break, Jones shot 38.5% from the three point line so it's possible he's already getting there.
    • Jones' older brother is Tyus Jones on the Grizzlies, who also came into the league without a three point shot but has developed into an above-average shooter beyond the arc. Obviously they're different individuals, but still worth noting.
Ideally in this scenario, I think we would keep KPJ and bring him off the bench as a 6th man--possibly even playing slightly more minutes than Jones overall. That would be up to KPJ and the coaching staff to settle. But even as a backup point guard playing ~25 minutes per game, I think Jones would help us, especially if he does develop into a decent 3P shooter next season.

I really like the fit here if we draft one of these guys:

    Wemby
    Jarace Walker
    Brandon Miller
    Ausar Thompson

Presuming we don't get Scoot or Harden.

I'd be happy with Caruso or Morris

Jones is probably going to be priced out

And I'm not ready to make big long term commitments.

Even if the Spurs end up matching whatever we offer--which I think they probably only do if they don't draft a point guard--at least we can make them pay up and make their rebuild that much harder :D

Don't worry, they will be drafting Scoot/Amen......

Just trying to speak Vic into existence

If not him I would contact Memphis about his bro, that is if Harden stays with Philly
