Can ichiro play on the field of dreams once he's dead. Or is there like a Japanese rule that will make him play in Japan. Cause they could decide it in Iowa if he's allowed.
I think you should list all records.. for each of the dif number of games played... unless the guy broke the record in less total games... If ichiro had broken it in less games than the other guy.. he could stand alone.. since he didnt.. i think both should be listed
jebus.. If bonds hit his 61st in less games than Ruth did he should stand alone.. If it took him more games I belive both should be listed..
list a 128 game record, 154 game record and 162 game record.. actualy it might be best to divide total hits by number of games to see the average.. to see who really should have the hit record.. But I just think its ridiculous to not do asteriks or sometihing.... if I hit 200 hrs in 5 games.. but smeone else hits 201 in 300 games.. he should have an asterik. or both records should be listed
you speak of a difference of 295 games. the difference b/t Ichiro's record and Sisler's is what...34 games? and they don't call the record "most hits in a SEASON" for nothing. just go ahead and tell us how you REALLY feel instead of complaining about something like the number of games it took. it's not Ichiro's fault that he plays in an era of 162 games.
Jessie Burkett's record came prior to the modern era of baseball - thus - it doesn't count. Sisler hit his in 154 games - given eight more games, whose to say how many he rakes. He was hitting .407 that year. It's two different records - one for a 154 game season, and one for a 162 game season. Also, Ichiro is overrated, because he doesn't hit for power. Not even doubles - which you would think he would collect in spades, especially playing in such a spacious park. Except, he only has three more than Jose Vizcaino. P.S. - Vlad, Manny and Ortiz all have had MUCH better years than Ichiro at the plate. And that's just the AL.
I agree that Ichiro should do more than just hit singles but as for power....being a lead off hitter that can actually get on base so that your 3-4-5 hitters can have a good shot at driving in runs is pretty important.
I will have to disagree with your point here, only the part that your saying he is over rated. He is a lead off hitter. All leadoff hitters will not have power. What is he supposed to do as a leadoff hitter? He is supposed to get on base. The guy is on base almost every time he comes up. He has speed and steals bases when he gets on base to put himself in scoring position. The problem is the rest of the team can't drive him in. So what if he can't hit for power, he is doing his job and getting on base. The guy has a .416 OBP....so basically almost half the time he is on base which is what you want your leadoff hitter to do...not drive in runs or hit homeruns....He doesn't have to get doubles becuase he can easily steal second.
Exactly. People were discussing him as the best hitter in the game, and deserving of an MVP award. But he's just a leadoff hitter. So he's overrated, because until he can hit for power(even if it just means hitting 50 doubles a year) he's not the best hitter in the game, and he shouldn't be discussed for the MVP. And his steals numbers are pretty pedestrian this year, frankly.
sted.. i told you how i feel.. they should be listed as two different records... they had two dif totals of games so I see it as TWO dif records.. it doesnt matter if i speak of 295 more games.. the bottom line is. ... during the first 156 games ichiro was unable to get as many hits as he did.. it should be listed as two different records.. I believe..
sted.. how are you suggesting that I really feel? I'm not a fan of one player or the other so it's not liked I'm biased..
i'm really sorry if it seems i've been attacking you RF. it's just the man just broke the record and people are already discrediting him. I'm not pointing at you because i'm pretty sure there are a lot of 'baseball purists' out there that has a bigger issue with this.
Okay the guy is 8th in the league in stolen bases. We are not in the era of Rickey Henderson stealing 130 bases so 36 that he has is pretty decent comapred to the rest of the league and when the leader of MLB is only at 69.
sted.. just making sure you werent trying to hint at not wanting him to break the record because he is from japan or something... I agree he should get some credit.. I just don't see the harm in listing it as 154 game record.. and 162 game record..
oh and I'm not a baseball purist or anything.. I've actually never even heard of the guy who had the record (only 21).. He is the 162 game record holder no doubt.. I just think to be fair in any record book they should note the change in season lengths.. for all we know the other guy could have gotten 0 hits his last few games and ended up with less if we played 162 I suppose.. I give ichiro credit.. he's definilty the record holder for total hits in a season.. I just think somehow they should make mention of the fact that they change length of season.. for all records not just his..
