A Mexican immigrant was on his way to finish construction on several Houston homes with a crew of workers Tuesday morning when he was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, his family said.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, was driving in Houston’s East End area when ICE agents tried to conduct a traffic stop as part of a “targeted operation” and he attempted to evade arrest, an ICE spokesperson said in a statement to CNN.

“He should have been picking up the last of his guys before heading to North Houston to finish up construction on some houses,” Salgado Araujo’s son Ronaldo Salgado said at a Wednesday news conference.

“Unbeknownst to all of us, my dad had been shot inside his van … by ICE agents in unmarked cars,” he added.

Whew. Thank God that ICE executed this guy in our home town, keeping him permanently off the streets. No criminal record, a father, 35 years of hard work and paying taxes ... but ... that skin tone, amiright, Mr. Miller and co? Seems totally reasonable that he would suddenly "weaponize" his vehicle and single-handedly take on a bunch of military cosplay bros, right?

    ICE lies like you breathe.

They are ramping up again. But now they have learned to stay on the more quiet side, but still, incidents like this will happen. All so that they can remove your neighbors, instead of focusing on criminals.

Yep. All so that they can terrorize brown people, either convincing them to leave the country or just stay as quiet and subservient as possible. So damn obvious to anyone being honest with themselves about this ICE bullshit.

    Here is the thing
They only terrorize the Hardworking, law biding brown people
They not about to run up on El Choppo
They not going to bother anyone that might ACTUALLY UNLOAD ON THEM
    Because
    They are cowards and bullies

Thanks for posting. I was going to start a thread if I didn't find one today.

First thought is that we don't have enough information. ICE has no credibility left to claim imminent threat. We don't have any evidence he was not a threat and we will be blocked from getting any. But I will not be satisfied unless ICE can prove to the public that he was a threat.

Second, Whitmire is a ****ing *****. I was tempted to bump my Whitmire thread just to berate him some more. I have never been more dissatisfied with a mayor in my life. Preemptively bends over at every opportunity. Sure, it is a federal matter. Minnesota managed to try investigating anyway when their people were murdered. And Whitmire won't have the support of the state, sure. But it is better to try and get slapped down than to just ****ing lay down yourself. He is a Quisling.

Third thought. There were 3 other people in the car who will probably be deported. The public needs to hear their accounts.

Fourth, in existing videos, it looks like the van is taking some evasive action, doing a three point turn to turn around. DOn't really blame him when he is pursued by unmarked vehicles. An ICE vehicle aggressively follows. It looks like the hallmarks of ICE using vehicular maneuvering to box in a suspect and force them to stop, which has been reported in other locales where ICE has claimed their vehicles were rammed when really it is them playing dangerous car chase games. There appears to be damage all along the driver side flank of the van, like it was involved in a side-swipe, but not a ramming. It is a knock on ICE's credibility when they say their vehicle was rammed and not even show the body damage that would suggest a ramming took place. The credibility of the claim Araujo also tried to run over an officer then is also impacted.

Operating on very little information, my guess would be that ICE decided to arrest this van full of workers (either knew Araujo's status or racially profiled them) and pursued in unmarked vehicles. Araujo became afraid and didn't want to pull over but was boxed in with aggressive maneuvering. The agents aren't necessarily planning to kill but are now annoyed and on alert because Araujo's reaction was not compliant. As an agent comes out, Araujo does something to spook him and he fires through the door. The attempt to run over seems unlikely because they had stopped and boxed in the van already and the agent would have approached from the side. He could not have fired from the front of the vehicle (and he would be a damn fool to be standing there in the first place) because Araujo was hit in the abdomen and not the face or chest. The engine block would have blocked a low shot and the windshield doesn't look damaged either. But then ICE needs to offer some justification for deadly force.
