I think you missed about 100,000 years worth of qualifiers there.

Just want to add that if whatever extra costs or services needed to keep the pet overnight require some third-party service, the vet is probably already paying or commiting cash before 5:00 pm. So get your ass over there and pick up your dang animal.

It's a bull**** saying that should cease to exist.

However, I totally side with the customer in the OP's story and would never give that vet business again.

That sounds reasonable; but you also probably have to determine how many well-reputed vets there are nearby with decent hours, availability and rates (or insurance coverage?), they're not exactly gas stations or fast food joints.

In general, in any dispute, shoved calls the cops first wins.

That would not make any sense, one should change their business practice if they have to start making commitments before the allotted time.

If the manager were a man, this would have never happened. Females tend to be catty with one another. I'm guessing the customer was also more attractive and well off than the manager.

I'm a nerd, so at the company I work for, I have time synced across a custom time server. Works for me, or maybe I just don't get it?

Good analysis, or the manager could have been stuck in a time zone that most women are in when it comes to getting ready. FST (Female Standard Time).

I'd request that the front desk do a Google search for the official time and then compare it to the lady's phone and the clock in the building. From there you can determine what the real time was when the argument began.

I would shoot them both, then sprinkle a little crack on them.

Base it on the time of the clinic, not that of the customer. But if it is a few minutes, I'll let it slide. $25 is nothing compared to loyalty of a customer.

    To apply strictly: manager
In reality: it's only a few minutes. Let it slide.

this is a stupid reason. Where in your opening thread do you state an employee told you this. You could have been told by the customer herself. In fact, that would be the most obvious assumption by the manager had she seen this thread. However, you later revealed that an employee told you and you even told us the employee's GENDER; thus, putting her in jeopardy. If you are so worried about her, why did you tell us, later?

btw: the manager would be very foolish to fire her.

It is very dangerous to fire someone in Texas out of spite. They can sue and the employee in this case will win, imo. If nothing else, they win their right to apply for unemployment compensation, which you lose when fired.

Also, this will be a slam dunk civil case if the customer's phone records show the time she called for the time of day to be 5:01 as the story indicates.

Bingo. I'm surprised at the answers.

It's a civil matter. Cops do not have the power to pass judgement on the performance or non-performance of contractual obligations. You want this resolved, talk to a lawyer. The most the cop can do is help the woman get her dog back.

The clinic would have to produce proof that they were operating on standard time or they showed the woman the time they're operating on when they made the agreement.

Still doubtful that the cop got involved at all. I don't believe the OP's story to be 100% true.

Sure, but my point was that this story seems to be from the customer's point of view, and there are many phones that have the option to manually set the time to whatever you want. The iphone for example can be set to auto update the time or manually enter whatever time you want: http://support.apple.com/kb/ta38641
So a customer COULD change their phone to a different time in an effort to avoid a fee.

Certainly if the story happened exactly as written then the manager was foolish, but in my experience disputes can sound drastically different depending on who is recounting the story.
