Cyberx mentioned a few days ago we are interested in possibly trading for Jimmy Butler.....don’t know how far along that conversation even is.
Butler would be a great pickup for the Rockets. His salary matches up with Anderson and Minny needs a shooter. Doubt that would be the deal, but it could be the start of something.
I wont be disappointed if we can just keep the whole roster unchanged. The group proved that we are good enoughto beat the Warriors. However does the cap situation allow us to keep both Capela and CP3, as well as all the others?
Eric Gordon would be what they would ask for. He replaces jimmy at the two spot and gives them shooting.I love E God but if you can convert him into jimmy butler you do it in a heartbeat
Yup, also cause the Wolves have already Bjelica (restricted free agent precisely) as a stretch 4 and he's all things considered better than Anderson.
The backup plan? You bring back most of this core that went 65-17 and make a few tweaks: 1) Get a better backup center for Capela. I love Nene, but he's too old and had a mostly forgettable season. Plus even during his lone good year with the Rockets, he was unable to play B2Bs. 2) Get a backup PG for when CP3 is injured or out for rest. It doesn't have to be anyone spectacular. Just someone who can play 10-15 minutes if needed and can also lead the 3rd unit during garbage time so the Rockets don't turn those 25 point 4th quarter leads into 12 point wins like they did all last season. 3) Get a backup 4. It would be great if Morey could find a way to dump Ryno's salary. But if that proves to be an impossible task, a quality backup for Tucker is still needed cuz I simply don't trust Anderson anymore. Do all of that and stay relatively healthy and I don't see any reason why the Rockets can't be right up there next season as one of the top 2-3 teams in the league just like they were this year.
If we are trying or thinking of getting it means Ariza isn't coming back. This actually is an upgrade over Ariza and way more attractive for Lebron to come. However the timing needs to be right.
There are several plans and probably contingency plans for those. I’d love to see Durrell’s flow chart on this.
Yeah, in terms of "rotation" and "bench" there are 2 types of benches. 1) Regular season bench. - These guys can help buoy the team during the season with injuries, foul trouble, resting etc. They help win games and get the #1 seed. 2) Playoff bench - Guys that have the ability to "elevate their game" and have more well rounded games to translate into the playoffs and playoff intensity. Rockets have 2 guys like that in Gordon and Mbah a Moute. They probably need 2 more "playoff bench" type players. And yeah, in terms of playmaking, if you are going to build a team whose engine is 100% tied to PNR, you need a glut of playmakers. Need at least 3 PGs on the team and maybe a point forward. Assume injuries.
The funny part is that wouldn’t even be horrible at all. Because that’s literally all we needed and if we never lost Paul it would’ve been a done deal.
Having watched how our opponents attacked us in the playoffs, and how we distributed PT, would you pay significant money for anyone who can't defend a guard on the perimeter, one on one? Neither will Morey.
All the major guys who weren't able to see the floor in the last two games of the playoffs need to be flipped for guys who can play, with the exception of Luc, who probably gets a pass because of his injury. Bring back the same team but add more "insurance" for if/when Chris Paul has an injury. Ideally this would be a star player like Butler...someone who can actually take over a game if necessary. They manage that and I think they're still in good shape for next season.
