I had to delete this because it may cause more strife within the Rocket brotherhood. May the Clutch be with you. ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROCKETBOOSTER (edited May 31, 2000).]
By the way, what did happen with Jenna? POPEYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! GOD NO! POPEYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I promise to never watch a Comets game until I read one of your juicy fun-filled creamy in the center posts. I know you are out there. I know you are reading this. POPEYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! ------------------
HP, Don't get me wrong, I'm, not apportioning any blame or guilt on Clutch - like I said in my post, I think popeye got his source in trouble and that is why he is upset, not anything to do with the Site. I may be wrong, but from face value of what transpired on the BBS, that is my take. Maybe you're right and the post couldn't have been hushed. Oh well, its a moot point now. ------------------ http://rocketdavo.tripod.com
I'm gonna wake up soon and this will all be a dream ala Bobby Ewing....this sucks. ------------------
Come on pops this isnt a soap opera or this site would be theyoungandtheclutchcityless.net ------------------ Proud owner of 271 different Hakeem Olajuwon Basketball cards
hmm, I think everyone heard Popeye stumbling in the forest, but will he make any more noise? ... best wishes ------------------ I have a special purpose.
Ok fine...we'll just forget Mobley ever signed a new contract with the Rockets. Now come back here before i lose my temper! ------------------ Dream's Team!
Jesus, are you drunk already?! You're supposed to be sober for the playoff chat tonight. Damn. I swear. ------------------ ?
Where is Clutch in all of this ?????????? come on someone that has direct contact w/Popeye needs to tell him that it doesn't have to end this way ............ I , like many of you, look foward reading his posts and I would hate loosing his insight and intelligent posts , Please Pops don't do this !!!! you have to reconsider your decision.. HP you were just trying to point out something that is factual so don't feel guilty at all . Clutch I know you were trying to do damage control but why didn't you just delete that post and then tell Pops why you did it and am sure he would have understood , he's a smart guy so am sure that he could have taken it. ------------------ It's all about marketing !
Only one way out of this CUT TINO ------------------ CUT Tino Isn't it amazing how quickly everyone did a Cat Backflip!!!!!
Popeye, Hey man I have been here from the beginning and while it is ture that I don't post much, there are a few really good reasons that I don't. One of them is you. Because you do such a good job with it, and pretty much say what I would anyway, I just don't need to post anymore. You are one of the reasons this BBS has thrived the way it has. Now granted I understand your position as well as Clutch's, but just because you got the raw end of a deal doesn't mean you have to pick up your ball and go home. Look man, I respect your decision whatever it may be, but I beg of you to hang around. You know your hooked. -Turbo ------------------ -Turbo
Rock on Jeff! This site is without a doubt, the best fan-based sports site on the net. Ya'll make me proud everytime I read intelligent team reports, first hand experiences, argumentative but well-thought-out draft scenarios, .... Posted by Popeye in Jeff's Westside Report Say it ain't so Popeye. Your quote says it all. This is the best place for Rocket info and is the best fan based sports sight on the net. You and Clutch are the two best posters of inside Rocket info and commentary on this board and probably the net. Your posts are well thought out, informative, and show a passion for the Rockets and the organization. I may not post often but I do read the board daily and I always enjoy reading your posts. The decision to leave is yours and I respect it, but let me say you will be sorely missed by us all. ------------------
I must be Shaq at the charity stripe because I missed something here. ------------------ THE DEAN HAS WRITTEN
Dean- LOL! That line was awesome, I'll have to remember that. Anyway, go down and read the thread entitled "What About Nine". That should explain a lot of it. ------------------
serves ya right ya jerk. j/k. but everyone else with more posts than HeyPartner watch out! HeyPartner's trying to get seniority! They're shooting at the cans! Stay away from the cans! p.s. the German speaking culture taught me how to truly use an exclamation mark! ------------------
Taking time is always good to gain perspective, but I don't see anything wrong here with what you did. If the mistake was made, it was made by both the Rockets and Cuttino. That's were the problem lies. Not with you. League rules are put in place to protect everyone involved. Inluding the Rockets and Cuttino. I think that Clutch is in a difficult situation because he has links to the Rockets, but that is the risk taken by having a BBS. People are going to post whatever they want. It he wants to remove the post, like was said earlier, that's his perogative, but you didn't really do anything wrong. Unless, of course, you think you did. Ultimately, you are the judge of your own actions and the creator of your own morals. Like I said, time gives you perspective. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
Okay folks, I truly believe that this is a pivotal situation in the trajectory of this site and BBS. To me, the issue is free speech, and the limits that this BBS will impose, if any. A great thing about this site is the fact that it is 'unauthorized.' That the ideas and comments in the BBS are not filtered through NBA media filters, Rockets media filters, etc. The advantage is, of course, grass-roots, real deal discussion of the Rox. If I wanna say that Chucky Brown has signed a three year deal with the Houston Rockets, I can say it, and you folks can figure out whether or not I am full of crap, whether it would be good, whatever. Maybe true, maybe not, but free speech - for better or worse - is key, as is the organic discussion which surrounds it. We have heard of facts and opinons - often before the public at large - here. So, is this what we value about the BBS? On the other hand, a great thing about this site is the fact that CC.net has - through absolutely amazing amounts of work and dedication - become a part of the world of the Houston Rockets. It is just a fact. Clutch, and therefore us readers, have gained trust and access and even impact (see: Jeff and SOR) - positive impact - on the Rockets. Now, these touches with Rockets - interviews, pictures, insights - are precious and great. Is this what we value about the site? To my eyes, this conflict was bound to happen: Does the relationship with the Rox, and the impact of a site which is almost too good to be true, impede the free speech -and all the pros and cons in that concept? It seems in this case it has, and I can see both sides honestly. Clutch has done an amazing job balancing the best of the 'unauthorized' site elements while growing the site in the real realm of Rockets basketbal and decision making. It is not about free speech like "Fire Rudy" and garbage like that, but about leaks and info that comes out. But, I may have to side with popeye on this one. If someone relates a piece of info as they see it - be it true or untrue, harmful or helpful - that is just their take. If teams and organizations are going to be harmed by the release of that info, it is their responsibility to keep it from leaking in the first place, or to protect themselves if investigated. I do not think a post on a fan BBS is grounds for penalizing a team, and if - for instance - the Miami Heat does not want people to know they are about to pay Chucky Brown the maximum for 30 years, they need to make sure the negotiations are air-tight. In my opinion, it is not the responsibility of the fans to keep potentially harmful or inside info off the net. I think it is a bad precedent. And I may also be with Popeye on the no-more-posts thing (not me; I will post till my Mac explodes, but who the hell cares - i mean pop) The reason we all flip through the BBS every day and scan for a new Popeye post is that he presents oblique references to inside info, etc. If that is a danger to the team or unwelcome on thwe site, what does he have to post? Well, alot, actually, but you get the idea. And this is really not about cracking anybody - this is such a tricky issue. But I feel it is worth discussion - free speech has its pros and cons, and in order to reap the benefits, we have to take the risks. Specifically, this is not meant as an affront to Clutch or anyone who may read this site. Clutch, I have said it before and i will say it again - you and the administrators here have created the best web-community i have ever seen; very visionary, professionally executed work. Not to go ACLU on you and contribute to the headache, but, this is a pretty serious deal in my estimation. Respectfully, CBFC PS- To any Rocket Officials Reading This Post: SIGN CHUCKY BROWN YOU DOGGIES! PPS- and RETIRE MIKE NEWLINS NUMBER ------------------
CBrownFanClub, That is one of the best posts I have read in two years. And it does open up a LOT of questions about free speech and responsibility. Very well thought out and concise. ------------------
okay, popeye had some good posts, some good info on occasion, but if everything rumor or inside tip he posted were true, the Rockets' lineup would currently be something along the lines of francis, mobley, shandon, odom, webber, grant, wallace, and mcgrady. Take CBFC's advice and everyone post away with whatever info you may or may not have. sure some "inside info", perhaps even some that may not be completely flattering to the organization, will come out. But the NBA is not going to come down on the Rockets because of a rumor about the Rox having "come to terms" with Mobley. Every team has some sort of communication with their free agents, whether throught the media or directly. And what's more, if the Rockets did "cheat" and agree to a contract with Mobley early, don't they deserve to get busted? ------------------
