Cmon man, its all right, you dont have to stop posting. ------------------ Rudy's tips on how to win. #1. Score more points than the other team.
Pole I agree wholeheartedly with you on this one. Clutch Please consider Pole's suggestion and actively eliminate each thread/post referencing the subject. Otherwise, we're going to hear the crying out and knashing of teeth about popeye's proclamation for days on end. ------------------
Popeye Sailor Man, u did nothing wrong ... if u do want to take a break from using your current nick...sign on as Bluto( I wont tell any1..i swear 8)- this blow BTW Rockets mgt if u are reading this forum recently, U heard nothing and saw nothing!?! Popeye, I know you feel embarrased about the situation, but please consider this. Your posts have been enjoyed and looked forward to by just about everybody on this BBS. People connect with you and feel like you are their friend, even though they would not know you if they bumped into you on the sidewalk. You do not have to go into exile because a thought did not occur to you. I doubt anybody thinks you were trying to harm the Rockets. That's absurd. Please, do not let this be your final decision. Nothing is forever. Don't do this to your friends. ------------------
Freak, I know it was just a joke, but this is nowhere near the Jenna situation. Popeye is obviously sorry for yesterday's miscommunication. Popeye: Don't let it do this to you man. You did what you thought was best for the fans. Even if you decide to cease reporting the "inside happenings" of the Rockets organization, don't completely leave the BBS. Your posts are thoughtful and well-written and the BBS would not be the same without you. [This message has been edited by thacabbage (edited May 31, 2000).]
Yes, good post. Just remember though, the right to free speech means that the government can't stop you from expressing your thoughts. This, however, is a private message board -- the right to free speech doesn't apply here. Clutch and the other administrators have every right to monitor the content of this board, place guidelines, and delete posts. Most of the time, it's not necessary, because the posters tend to stay within the spirit of the board. Clutch has developed a relationship with the Rockets, and this site has benefited greatly from it. IMHO it's worth it to guide posts away from subjects that would be harmful to the Rockets, in order to maintain that relationship. The Rocket's don't have a problem with criticism, but there is some information that could be harmful -- that they don't want public. I think I figured out what happened. If I'm right, Popeye didn't do anything wrong, but the information he had shouldn't have been leaked. Clutch had to perform damage control, not to hurt popeye, but to limit potential damage to our team. Popeye, please keep posting. I value your insights. You stepped in a waiting cowpatty -- which is going to happen occasionally. You just got lucky. Just clean off your shoes, and watch where you step! ------------------ Stay Cool...
don't know about anyone else, but this is like a shot in the gut. I'm sure Popeye will understand; when faced with such a loss, humor is some people's recourse. Popeye--don't leave. I can't bare to have participated in such an ending. It was like I was playing with guns and shot someone. I only meant to get into a faux argument with you, then quit the site myself in a "this site is the devil" post. We are bored indeed. The Rockets use this site as a free Marketing tool. They get huge value out of it. They aren't going to admonish anyone. All that talk about free speech and the Rockets worrying about this site is overstated: IMHO. This site is too valuable as free marketing for them to care. In fact, controversy only makes it better. As long as they stay detached, they want Popeye!!!! god...how could you possibly leave the site. Popeye, you didn't hurt anything. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited May 31, 2000).]
Well popeye, if that is your decision, I respect it. I bid you adieu, and the best of luck. May the road reach out to meet you in your travels, and the wind be always at your back.
This seems to be getting out of hand. Popeye has most certainly NOT done anything wrong. Any number of people post on this message board claiming/insinuating to have some form of "inside information". If the league or anyone else is monitoring this board for hints of wrongdoing, collusion, tampering or whatever, they will have been sent on some wild goose chases over the past 18 months. I fail to see how anything that an "anonymous" person posts here can in anyway cause Clutch or the site to be held liable. Popeye was doing nothing different than a hundered other posts he has made. No offence to you Clutch (or Administrators) but if this was a such a serious issue when it arose, could it not have been handled by quietly contacting Popeye (as I'm sure you know who he is) and advising him to drop or withdraw it? By posting your disclaimer you lend credibility to the rumour. My opinion - I think the real issue is that popeye has landed his source in some trouble and that is why he has said he won't post anymore - not that he's annoyed with the Site. Popeye - you said you would never post here again, but I noticed you were back long enough to edit that ------------------ http://rocketdavo.tripod.com
Damn, I leave for a month and all hell breaks loose... Popeye, you can't do this to us. Everytime I come to this bbs, I look for your comments. This place will not be the same if you stop posting. This sucks, first Drexler, then Barkley and NOW Popeye... when will the madness stop!!! ------------------ RAWW Paid for by the Frudy T. Gin and Juice Daquari Factory.
Hey there Pops. Just my two cents: Nothing was done that was irreparable. Free speech sometimes needs disclaimers to avoid any slanderous or malicious speech. Not to say that anything said was either, but people do feel at times the need to be protected. Nonetheless, your insights and ribbings have always been one of my favorite things here, and I do hope you reconsider. ------------------ How about the Houston Comets and their quest to become "Quadrepeatchicks!"
Hey u cant leave. Your info is one of the main reasons I come to this site. I understand if u cant give us any inside info anymore, but that doesnt mean u have to stop posting. ------------------ Now introducing the starting lineup for your Houston Rockets: Starting at Center, from Wake Forets TIM DUNCAN...
There goes the neighborhood! Pops, I doubt you did any harm to the Rockets organization. If Keith Oberman can post "rumors" about how Grant Hill will "reportedly sign with the Magic", then should be able to post whatever "rumors" you hear without the fear of any hammers coming down. Everyone knows there is a "waiting period", but they also know there are always things going on behind the scenes. Whether that has happened in this case or any of the other "rumors" we've heard this offseason is only debatable, there is no concrete proof. Basically unless there is written or vocal proof, everyone is in the clear. Don't let the man keep you down!! ...oh and stick around Pops! It's going to be a fun ride over the next few months and we all want you to be there with us! ------------------ We need some meat in the post!
Popeye- PLEASE dont leave us, you are the guy we all look up to and it is hard to see you not post here anymore. You dont have to talk about trades or anything, just please come back, CLUTCHCITY.NET will not be the same. ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
I really don't have much to add beyond the terrific CBFC and Davo posts. Popeye, bro, I hope you stay a part of this community or at least rejoin it in the future when you feel the time is right. Whatever you decide to do I'll respect without any explanation wanted, you earned that. ------------------
Popeye's posts were almost always among the most interesting ones. I am sure he did not have the intent to harm the Rockets or anything. I would suggest coming back with a different name, if, as it seems, Rockets officials have complained and will now watch posts from "Popeye" very closely. I am still not sure if I have completely understood this whole problem, but I am sure Popeye hopes just as much as we all do that there will not be any problems for the Rockets and that the Rockets will actually end up signing Cat after August 1st.
Davo, It could not have been handled in a quiet manner. There were already spawned posts being generated. How long do you think it would have taken for many threads to be mentioning Mobes scoop by Popeye? I really got to defend Clutch as just another poster here. He just wants to keep having fun. "Admin" is not his real role here. This is not a company or a service. He is not staff or an employer. Don't lay any guilt on him. The way I see it, this should show everyone how great Jonathan Feigan and Michael Murphy are. They gather info in order to chronicle Rockets movements as they occur. You simply can command much more sources of information when you do not try to scoop the Rockets. No one is getting in trouble. Clutch loves rumors. Clutch loves passing them on with the best of them, just like Popeye. But, if sources/insiders believe cc.net is a risky culture to provide tips, they could stop giving Clutch tips as well. Popeye puts a time and place to his scoops, putting his sources in great jeopardy of being caught. What Popeye did is fine with me when you isolate it as a single incident. But you have to consider the effects it has on Clutch's sources. Forget his Admin role here. He has sources. Exposing people with a time and place like Popeye does, could easily tighten the lips of Clutch's sources. And it is his site. He nurtured those sources. And everyone knows who he is. Unlike Popeye, who is largely anonymous. You ask me: That source should be caught. At a pure level of Fan loyalty, I believe anyone who provides confidential info regarding the Rockets should be exposed. What leakers do is just not cool. So what if you have inside info. Keep your mouth shut. Tell us later; we will still be impressed with the knowledge. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited May 31, 2000).]
HP- very well said. You don't how how much I (and I'm sure you too) want to know everything that the Rockets are talking about behind closed doors. But not at the expense of this. But if it's going to cause this kind of uproar, and get someone in trouble, then it isn't worth it. ------------------ Come back Popeye!!!
Ok, I am exposing heypartner for diagraming the Rockets offensive sets, using "Flash" for all of the NBA to see. No wonder it seems like the other teams know whats coming. 2 shakes!!!!!
