Nothing says conservatism like repaying people for not working.

The longer the shutdown goes, the more people will be "asked" to work for free.

[NPR] Shutdown Will Be Worse For Economy Than First Thought, White House Says
    January 16, 20191:47 PM ET

The partial government shutdown is inflicting far greater damage on the U.S. economy than the Trump administration previously estimated, the White House acknowledged.

President Trump's economists have now doubled projections of how much economic growth is being lost each week.

They originally estimated the partial shutdown would subtract 0.1 percentage point from economic growth every two weeks. Now, they see that loss happening every week the shutdown lasts, according to a CNBC report citing an unnamed official.

The economy grew at a 2.8 percent annual pace in the fourth quarter of 2018, according to an estimate by the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.

My friend at the USDA went back today, but they don't know for how long, and they are extremely limited in the work they are allowed to perform. Basically just taking care of some tax related needs, but they aren't really open for business again.

Obviously the best option is to pay people for work they are doing. I can live with a delay in paying people to work (though not for months or years as dear leader has promised). But I'm pretty livid about the fact that we are paying people to not work for a month. This should not be possible.

How about we make it so absolutely no federal employee works government gets shut down. Bet we never see another one.

A good DACA bill would get him 200 miles of border "wall" in BFE Texas. That seems a fair trade.

Trump may be planning to offer DACA today in exchange for his 5 billion in wall funding: https://www.businessinsider.com/tru...-shutdown-negotiations-in-announcement-2019-1

I don’t expect the Dems to accept this. Negotiating with Trump while he has the government hostage is terrible precedent in my opinion, so I think they should stick to having it re-opened before they consider negotiations.

The Supreme Court yesterday chose not to hear the DACA case, which means it is safe for another year anyways. That’s the only reason he would offer it.

Last year Dems offered him 25 billion towards wall funding in exchange for DACA and he turned it down. The Art of the Deal.

Looks like Ann Coulter will have to clean up Trump's mess, after Trump's announcement today.

His base is already freaking out on the prospect of him offering DACA...as usual...it's like clockwork.

It's funny to watch them actually melt whenever it looks like he's about to accept a DACA deal.

This isn't about illegal immigration for them. They want less brown people in the country. That's all this has ever been about for his base.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/supreme-court-unlikely-hear-trump-daca-appeal-n960321

The U.S. Supreme Court took no action on Friday on the future of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. It now appears likely that the court will not take up the issue during its current term, which would require the government to keep the program going for at least ten more months.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled that, far from being illegal, deferred action has been a feature of the immigration system for decades. "In a world where the government can remove only a small percentage of the undocumented non-citizens present in this country in any year, deferred action programs like DACA enable DHS to devote much-needed resources to enforcement priorities such as threats to national security, rather than blameless and economically productive young people with clean criminal records."

Trump to offer a 3 year extension to DACA today. I’d be shocked if they considered it. Maybe if it included a path to citizenship, but it doesn’t appear to.

I'd be shocked if they consider anything. They don't actually oppose the policy, they just oppose the person who is proposing it.

All you do is show that you don't understand what they have been in favor of in the past or what they are against in the present. Since you lack that understanding it is difficult to discuss this issue with you.

Not really. There is nothing inherently different between building 700 miles of border barriers and building 200 more miles of border barriers.....but somewhere along the line building border barriers became "immoral", funny enough that was right around the time that the current president started supporting the idea. That alone seems to be the reason so many democrats have completely flip flopped on it.

By all means though, if you can tell me why the first 700 miles of it was a really awesome and effective thing and why the next 200 miles of it would be immoral and ineffective, that might get the conversation rolling.

Actually, there is a difference. The fact that you either don't or pretend not to know the difference doesn't change that.
