This election has actually RESTORED my faith in this country. 8 years of incessant propaganda and daily smearing, false claims of fascism, racism, and Nazism, and an overwhelming majority of Americans were still able to think critically and not be fooled by baseless rhetoric, and were able to vote intelligently.
The American Experiment in Democracy will face is biggest challenge the next four years. It will be interesting to see how strong it actually is. We will find out soon enough. Trump will have unchecked power with a court system and Congress fully behind him. The American people have gifted him a dangerous amount of power. But it was by choice. So be it.
America is just as racist as ever.....no way are we ready to elect a woman of color. Just amazing that being a convicted RAPIST doesn't matter to 70m American's....I hope their daughters forgive them. DD
I am disappointed but I will move forward. I think politics is becoming a transactional relationship with voters, "I will lower your grocery prices" and not really about the stock market or jobs reports. My hope is that trump does not follow through on most of his BS, but who knows. I have said before trumo the person doesnt scare me, its the radicals he surrounds himself with from RFK to Bannon to Musk.........................those folks scare the hell out of me. But all morning I have heard from the maga folks that he won't do anything BAD.......................I guess we shall see
Speaking out now could literally get you killed. Make no mistake . . .. we are blown past the 60s and heading back to reconstruction Rocket River
All you need to understand about how dangerous this upcoming term is, ask yourself this question: Would Trump supporters accept a lost election like Democrat voters are now if this morning We found out Harris won instead? Answer that question and you'll understand why another Trump presidency is dangerous.
When he floods the lower courts we won't even get trickle down Justice It's not just Trump . . . but anyone of high economic standing We literally just elected a TWO TIER . . no a MULTI TIERED JUSTICE SYSTEM Is he going to murder her? I was thinking Thomas and Alito? Rocket River
Our founders knew our country would flounder without a well educated populace. The team posting moronic memes 24/7 won.
I don't dispute that at all. They'll keep doing it. But, at this point, the chickens of neoliberal economics are coming home to roost. The Democrats have either ignored or been tone-deaf to the economic realities of many people in this country. I believe Trump will exacerbate the money woes many people feel and they'll probably blame Democrats if it gets worse for them because we all live in impenetrable media bubbles.
Yeah, Kamala parroting Trump's gimmick on tips/overtime low key legitimized Donny's crazy shotgun of plans for the economy. She should've replied it would mean that lost revenue would hurt their Social Security benefits in the long run (even if they aren't expecting any), and tackled fixing something like Phantom Job openings that are hurting that demo. As for the other worries, it all adds up. The bill comes due at some point. It'll be hard for Trump to continue running the debt in order to keep the lights on. He'll have to pray Biden's "green shoots" are genuine which came at a high price of good money chasing bad corporate debt in order to maintain employment. I felt like Trump and his allies gave up at the end of the first term and started looting a burning building, but no one cared or noticed so it doesn't matter. ::shrugs:: What would be the easier path for him...
They likely have two years to pass legislation. I don’t think this term will go much differently than last time. He will milk his ego, and little will get done.
IT was this arrogance that allowed this to happen Well . .. . They did not forsee that eventually the populace would be more educated and could be trusted They should have put a limitation on the Electorial College and went to popular vote back in the 60s or 70s As long as the electorial College exists. . .the will of the people will be secondary Rocket River
I don't know about giving up, but I am disappointed. I watched PBS's coverage last night and sprinkled in between their moaning they talked about paying attention to the voters. Too late? I would say their gaslighting has to stop, but these reporters are completely inside the matrix that they aren't self aware of their flaws. Just like the internet has an attention economy, they have one too but for different eyeballs. At least they mentioned not to criticize the voters or the groups that voted for Trump. Damn right, the voters didn't **** up, Dem leadership and their enablers did.
You do you. I'm giving up. The revolution is here. Twentieth century liberalism is officially dead and buried. Not that it was the greatest thing in the world, but we've thrown out what's beautiful about it with all the rest. I tried to warn people -- this is fascism, this is racism, this is corruption -- and by the electoral college and the popular vote, we said that's what we want. Okay, I get it, that's what we want. I think it's immoral and self-defeating but I'm outvoted. I'm sure I'll still complain on the internet, but my hope in democracy, in divided government, in rule of law, in equal protection, and in other tenets of western liberal democracy are all kinda dead. I'm not saying there won't be an election in 4 years. There probably will be. But there is a hell of a lot more to liberal democracy than just elections. Fortunately, as a well-to-do majoritarian citizen, I don't have much personal risk. I may even profit. My family has some vulnerabilities that we will be attending to. But the order of the day now is to hunker down while Trump runs wild, and try to mitigate the damage for the people close to me.
