This doesn't necessarily pass your 'beneficial' test. 3 players (we also received DeMarre Carrol) who received no minutes in January or February and pitifully low output were traded for 2 players who have starters minutes. We are also on the hook for 2 additional low first round guaranteed contracts next year. So that's 5 contracts as opposed to 0 (related to this deal as SB and AB were expiring).
Wow buddy, I make fun of the superfriends as much as the next guy, but let's keep this PG. Bosh I'll give you. Melo, he went for a pretty high price, but in retrospect look at what we shelled out today and what we got. Send Ish, Battier, Brooks, and Scola with some draft picks sprinkled on top for Melo (and possibly Billups) and essentially we are in the same boat as we are now, just with a hell of a lot more upside. Throw in Twill if you have to, and we're still even with the team we currently have. We traded away a substantial amount of this team and got bupkiss. DWill, well I think it's debatable that he could have come here, but who knows? All I know is that we've been stockpiling trade "assets" and had nothing come our way. We can't entice players in free agency, we can't trade for stars, and we can't keep our stars healthy. That erks me...
Ah Yes, Still positioning for the future. T Will better go off with all his complaining Bud better man the f*** up and play D and get to the cup Hill better wake the hell up and realize hes in the NBA Haheem better... I just hope he learns to tie his shoes without fouling. Dragic Better pass to Courtney. Chuck better grow 6 inches.
You can't compare what we traded today to what the Knicks traded for Carmelo.......They lost SUBSTANTIALLY more. And they had good reason to trade for him. It was obvious he was going to sign the extension to play for them. Why would we trade 3+starters like the Knicks did for a player who doesn't even want to play here. From the beginning it was obvious the Rockets were just a ploy in the Melo trade talk. They never even had a fair shot at him. D-Will isn't really debatable. The Jazz didn't want to trade him to a Western Conference team. And definitley not a rival team. Once again what free agent have the Rockets actually had a fair shot at getting recently? In my opinion none.
There's a 7-6 bench anchor and a few hundred million dollars in tangentially related Private Equity investments that weighs very heavily on your argument, as well as a guy who wants to "be more Phoenix-like" rather than let coaches coach.
Morey is still doing moreyball. we'll be stuck as a mediocre team forever if this keeps on, barring a miraculous #1 pick in a draft with potential superstars. Morey drafts players like landry or brooks, both of whom got us nowhere. morey will just keep recycling these players for more of the same. and it's not all morey's fault, players dont want to come here. players, imo, don't like moneyball, who would? Would you rather work for some penny-pinching corporation or Google? On top of that, Houston is not as attractive as LA/MIA/NY to players. We got lucky with dream and it attracted clyde and barkley. we got lucky with yao and it attracted tmac. Everything in between, doesn't work for Houston. I don't like ugly basketball but I'm willing to have us tank to put ourselves in a position to draft someone amazing.
This could go ad nausium but I think the only reason players like DWill and Melo are headed east is because of the superfriends. Look at it this way: with the way things shape up, Houston could have a losing record and still make the playoffs. Basically, to make the playoffs in the east you have to compete with the budding bulls, the magic, the superfriends, the celtics, and pre-Dwill trade the knicks. Already you have 5 spots taken up out of the 8. However, in the West it's a different story. This defuncts the whole notion of Utah wouldn't send a player to a competitor, because even with your competition getting stronger, there's still a lot of room out here to make the playoffs. The Lakers already show signs of degredation, the Mavs choke when things get serious, heck, the only team I fear is San Antonio. Maybe OKC in 3 years. NY did lose substantially more... more less talented players. NJ as well. Those two teams are as mediocre as we were. They gutted their rosters and risked it all. We should have done the same (if this was the plan all along). Heck, last summer, with all the free agents out there, all our "assets", and the illusion of a healthy Yao Ming we couldn't entice anyone to come our way. That concerns me.
How many years? 2? 4? 6? Let me know. . . so I can learn all about the proper way to fix CROW Until then . . . . If this is the 1st step to a championship in 10 yrs. .. . will we really be needed to eat crow????? Rocket River
