No you are right, I think the comparo of T-Mac or Kobe or Lebron to Jordan is rediculous. But no one really compares to Jordan, so that is not a knock against those guys. But as of now, they are clearly the best combo guards/forwards in the league.
Before it's over, I think LeBron will compare to Jordan. 56 points today! What LeBron is doing at his age, MJ/Kobe/TMac were not capable of at the same stage. LeBron seems to have the drive to continually get better. He is also a physical freak of nature even more than TMac. He could eventually be a Kobe style of player (that knows how to get his teammates involved) in a Karl Malone body.
When he wins 6 rings, let alone ONE playoff series, then come and talk to me. Potential is an overrated concept, his potential is definitely great, but all that matters is winning. I am not sure if I fully understand this part: 1) If you mean that he could have Kobe offensive skills, with even better passing skills/team skills, then I can tell you he is already a much better team player than Kobe is; but this is a valid argument overall. (T-Mac is way ahead of Kobe on the "involving your teammates" part as well BTW, just watch the Lakers as much as I do and you will see that, even Magic took a crack at Kobe for not being a team player) 2) If you mean he would be as good as Kobe in involving his teammates, then this right here dismisses your whole argument, since Kobe is TERRIBLE in involving his teammates in the offense. He simply refuses to yield to anyone, it will take another Shaq to force him to do so.
I meant #1. In addition, LeBron will grow to be much bigger and stronger than MJ/Kobe/Tmac. He will end up playing the '4' but will be much quicker than anyone big enough to guard him. If a smaller player guards him, game over before it starts. I agree with you on potential. Part of the fun of the NBA is seeing how potential turns out. I thought MJ was an all time great (even better than Magic or Bird) before he won his first championship. I vividly remember the Bulls finally beating the Piston goons and after splitting the first two home games in Chicago, shocking everyone and sweeping Magic and the Lakers 3 in a row in LA. I'm excited about LeBron (and glad he's in the Eastern Conference). Just give him a good coach, a solid/great 2nd fiddle and sound role players. I hope he doesn't have to wait 7 years like MJ.
I wasn't comparing TMac to Jordan in terms of winning or whatever. I just meant that TMacs skills are so advanced and hes been doing it for a while that he supercedes my preference for an inside game. Besides Jordan, only Kobe and Tmac are the perimeter guys I would give the ball to rather than a big man. It's not a measure of how they stack up individually against one another, just how they stack up against the rest of the league
I understand well what you meant hotballa, I was just responding to zhao's comments, which I agree with, but as I said, T-Mac/Kobe/LBJ are the best the league has to offer right now, and it is not a bad product to watch, not at all
