I'm excited to see the team competing, but I'm not ready to give anything to McHale. We've had a compressed training camp with a nearly identical roster to last year, when Adelman had the team playing well. But I'll say I like the rotations and I hope he keeps using the bench with this crazy schedule. There is also the glimmer that he will have a good effect on the big guys.
I know this won't surprise you, but I don't understand that response at all. Go Rockets! And go analysis.
#2 isn't too far off from what's happening now. I have to give you credit on your original assessment. Scola, Martin and Dragic from the failed Gasol trade have taken the lion's share of minutes, even though 3 games were played with no off day. Meanwhile our younger players are failing to get development time. It's clear that are trying to get playing time for their assets, possibly for a mid season trade or by the end of the 2011-12 season.
I don't get the response myself, but I agree with your post about McHell. And yes, I'm still giving him hell for what his play against the Rockets in the 1980's. He can win me over. I'm openminded enough to give credit when credit is due. Still way too early for that, at least for me.
Patterson didn't get much of a chance either in his rookie season early. I think some D-league ball for Morris would help out his game a lot.
It isn't way early for me because I thought the guy was a joke of a hire. That is how far I was. Also no matter what happens the rest of the season, he has these guys playing good team defense after an extremely short camp. His FIRST camp as a head coach.
Maybe it's just me, but McHale's rotations and offense make a lot more sense to me. Adelman was probably more creative though.
No his only previous experience is taking over for fired coaches. This was his first season as head coach from the beginning. Makes it all the more impressive to me how he did it his first time, with a new team, in a compacted camp.
My guess is Kelvin Sampson deserves a lot of credit for the x's and o's. The guy is an successful college coach for a long time and is known as a top defensive mind for his work with the Milwaukee bucks.
I think before the Hawks game Worrell mentioned Sampson runs the defense and was embarassed by the D on the Grizz. If he is in charge of D, he's doing a danged good job.
Too early, but I like his persona. He is an interesting interview. Remember JVG post game press conferences; he was downright depressing. Adelman seemed "difficult." May be wrong on that one, just my impression. McHale is more likable than both of the previous coaches. He actually reminds me of Rudy. I hope he has the same results.
I think getting players to buy into your system and creating a culture of accountability are the keys to being a good coach. McHale seems like a good communicator and his assistants have the scheme background. I like our coaching staff, but I've liked them since Rudy's days.
One thing that gets underestimated is how coaches talk to the media. It impacts the players. Our last two coaches were terrible at that... JVG is outstanding as an analyst, but for some reason, was horrible at post game interviews. Rick Adelman was worse. This guy at least says the kind of things to the media that the players want to hear.
