I hope you're kidding me...so now T-mac is to blame for being arguably one of THE best post-season performers in recent history, yet having a team that couldn't push out of the first round?
It's posts like these that cause me to question the intelligence of so many people on this board. V-Span will play once he has earned playing time, and that's the end of it. I'm not going to defend JVG, because his decision-making often leaves me perplexed as to what he's trying to accomplish with this team, but based on his comments in the article, it seems as though he's trying to give V-Span the benefit of the doubt. What bothers me most about V-Span is this: every time I see him during the course of a game, he is sitting at end of the bench pouting. He's not paying attention to the game (he should because he might acutally learn something). He's not cheering for or encouraging his teammates. If I were coaching, I wouldn't want a player like that on my team. Basketball is a team game. V-Span can either fall in line with the rest of the Rockets roster, or he leave. It makes no difference to me. He is an insufferable whiner with an exagerated since of his own importance.
Messing with HIS mojo? What's your thought on Spanoulis's venting will do for the team chemistry of Rockets? Look, I have been a VSpan supporter. But the interview he did just total changed my impression of him. Someone said that VSpan may not actually said "I am TMac back home", it was JVG made it up. Fair enough, that was from JVG's comments. But how about the comments "I could have been the Rookie of the Year on another team"? That came straight from Greece, right? If he made the ROY comments, it is really not far stretch to think JVG was quoting what VSpan said to him. It is just too out of the world type comments for JVG to even TRY to make it up. Many of the comments against JVG are contraditing each other. One give the reason that JVG was desperate to hold on to his job, so he would play any young players. Others thinks VSpan is much better than Rafer. Hello?? If VSpan is really that good, and JVG is desperate to hold his job, wouldn't he be crazy to leave the better player on the bench? While VSpan's one sided comments can get so many jump to the conclusion that there is a ego struggle between CD and JVG, no many seems to care that CD also made comments along the same line as JVG in that young player normally struggles at the start of their NBA career. Come on, people, JVG defintely has his drawback, but in this drama that is unfolding, only one has too big a ego is Vassilis Spanoulis
Well, you're certainly entitled to your hopes. I wish you well. My beef is with the complete utterly negative redundancies of some of our member's posts. And that's how I viewed zboy, and if I might add, it was breaking my heart to see great posters like DaDakota following suit...until just recently. (thank you Dada, I respect you even more than before...if that's possible ) RR
Yeah but Yao was brought here not because of his skills, but for his potential. V-Span was brought here being told that the organization already liked his game and just had to play, not relearn everything. Greece wants V-Span to play as a Greek product. China just wanted to show that they can also compete in American BBall.
Well I do know various members of the organization have been quoted as repeatedly telling Span that he needed to lower his turnovers (not sure about anyting else). They have told him this ever since he was drafted. Also, I think you are confusing expectations because Yao Ming was the first pick in the draft and Span was a second rounder who the team knew was not NBA ready. Sure, he had improved by the time he got here but if you think the team expected more out of him as a rookie than Yao Ming, you are wrong.
you know someone is just reaching when they use the words of a euro bench scrub who has proven nothing in the nba over a seasoned coach that has had success
Meh, you got my statement completely wrong. What I meant was, regardless of management's true expectations of Span, Span seems to be making the impression that the organization seemed to have told him otherwise when they were recruiting him back in Greece. That's why all the "mislead" statements from him.
Well ,then the Rockets would have been lying to the Chronicle when they talked about giving him lists of things he needed to work on before he came here. But, yeah, I think they tried to sell him on coming over and he must have taken that to mean he was seen as immedeiatley important...when the Rockets see him as important for down the line. Who knows.
Did you watch Yao in his first year? Did you know who made Bakley kiss Donkey's a**? Did you know who blocked Shaq 3 times in their first match up? Did you know where the name "Shanghai Shakes" come from?
(exclusive scenes from the upcoming movie, Kill Bill Vol.III - A Hoopster and a Gentleman) *Scene 15* KB practices alone in a darkened gym, dribbling, faking passes, attempting silly shots. We hear voice-overs of JVG's voice yelling about Discipline, hard work, attention to detail! KB laughs to himself, continues to practice silly behind-the-back passes and crazy shots. Then KB notices JVG standing in the shadows watching him. KB: (starts guiltily, he knows he has been caught) Oh sh*t. JVG: Every year, there's always some SUCKA who thinks he's smarter than me! (fade into scenes of JVG forcing KB to run sprints and horses, driving him, until he appears about to die from exhaustion) *Scene 68* JVG: (as he pounds medicine balls onto KB's abdomen) Quit! KB: No! JVG: Quit! KB: No!! JVG: I said QUIT! GIVE UP! KB: NO!! JVG: Why don't you just QUIT, Vasill-ey-o ? KB: I GOT NO PLACE ELSE TO GO!! *Scene 75* Similar to Scene 15, except this time, KB is drilling in the disciplines JVG has tried to teach him. He is grimly defiant, resolute. JVG watches from the darkness, unknown to KB... *Scene 92* (Rockets Championship Banner Ceremony, as JVG hands out Rings to the players) JVG hands a ring to each player, moving down the line towards KB. KB stands tall, erect, grimly proud. JVG finally comes to KB, who is last in line. (brief flashback to KB making the Game 7 series-clinching last-second shot to win it all) The barest flicker of a smile plays across JVG's face, the same for KB. Manfully, they shake hands, you can just see the barest hint of a tear forming in JVG's eyes, and then also in KB's. Finally, the break the handshake and embrace like brothers. Joe Cocker music begins to play. *Scene 93* A typical factory floor. Many extras work the floor at sweaty hard work. Among them is sad-faced but resolute Sally Twandle (played by the gorgeous Penelope Cruz), former Power Dancer instructor-turned Machine-Press Drill Operator at her father's factory, KB's true love. We see an exterior door slowly open, and get a laugh as an extremely tall Chinese man enters; we only see him from the chest down. Some of the extras look up and gasp. Then we see, following the giant Chinese man into the plant, a grimly proud KB, wearing a tuxedo and tennis shoes, marches resolutely, purposefully, manfully, towards Sally, right past Milo Twandle (played by Dan Hedaya), Sally's father, who hated KB in Scene 23, but now approves of him for his daughter because he won the series for his favorite team. The Joe Cocker music swells louder. KB approaches the beautiful but sadly-resolute-faced Sally, who gasps with surprise and joy at the sight of KB. KB sweeps Sally off her feet, carries her out past all the cheering extras, and into the sunlight, as the Joe Cocker music gets even louder (if that's possible). The giant Chinese man (who hated KB in Scene 12 but now likes him because he won the series for his own team) climbs into the driver's seat of a tricked-out Hummer, while KB and Sally enter the back seat together. As the car pulls away, the credits begin to roll. The credits roll over scenes of a joyous downtown parade for the Rockets' latest Championship, all the players riding in convertibles, smiling, happy, KB seated between JVG and Sally. All the players, that is, except for the one who was killed in Scene 50, Chuck Hayes, who is in a brass urn between JVG and KB. KB points up to the sky to honor Chuckie, who was electrocuted into a pile of ashes during a freak charity tetherball game. The crowd cheers even more as KB hold up Chuckie's urn, which inspired the team's drive to the Ring. Chuckie's widow, Nbutu (played by Paula Abdul) cheers as well, wiping away a tear. Final credits roll. Soundtrack available on Milkshop Records. Then, in the cliche of the movies, after the final credits, there is one last 2-second scene: KB, with a basketball, faking a pass to the camera, while yelling his now-famous trademark: "Iyam Keebee!!" The End (yeah, that's how I'd like this movie to go..
Seriously, a lot of the stuff Span said has been taken out of context... I have both v-span's original interview here where he is mainly replying to questions rather than ranting off by himself and VG's "reply" Unless you know greek and how greek people speak, it's hard to figure out the way in which he is talking. the thing is the gerneral gist of his interview was that he has NO idea what is going on... He NEVER blames VG at any point. He just says that VG appears to not know what kind of player he is and he is just surprised by that considering how he was originally approached... He doesnt think bad of VG at all His t-mac comment was referring to playing style rather than status. So was VG's answer! That t-mac does that part and therefore he needs to fill a different role. There is a lot of factors to consider before dismissing his comments apart from the misunderstanding part. Like the fact that people dismiss him by saying he wasnt even a starter in the greek NT or Panathinaikos. People need to understand that these are both teams with an extremely balanced roster. ANY of the guys in them could start at ANY time and they usually did. It's also the european way of doing things where the rotations are much bigger and complete than the NBA. Loads of stuff basically that can be misunderstood in the 2 articles and i think the situation is much "calmer" than youd think by reading this board.
So what! Who said rookies couldnt play. jordan Farmar is a rookie PG in LA and he is playing very well off the bench. Every year, many rookies contribute to winning teams, I dont understand why JVG doesnt understand that.
