Has anyone ever heard of a coach who kneeled with over two minutes remaining in order to try a field goal to win it? Me either.
The good thing that came out of this game other than beating Arkansas is it will shut up the pumpers who may realize this team is no better than it was last year. Davis is still Davis. And that defense that sparkled against UNT was a couple of unlucky bounces away from being Reese embarrassed by a mid tier SEC team.
Regarding Vince Young: I'm positive the people around me in the student section were just celebrating the result of the play. It was that kind of game. Vince Young, incomplete pass...turn to your neighbor, jump up and down, high fives, hugs and so on. We DID cheer every time the player hurt got up. I know that so many UT players were slow getting up that it was quite frustrating. I'm pretty sure UT had 4-5 players hurt/faking it. UA had none. It really slowed the game. If they were hurt so bad they wouldn't have come back into the game the next play (VY).
you obviously didn't see what VY came back from against kstate last year. edit: of course, like DanzelKun just brought up, if your player hadn't intentionally tried to twist VY's ankle maybe he wouldn't have had to come out at all. just such a high level of character exuding from the arkansas football program, from the fans to the players to the coach.
Perhaps you haven't seen the replay to see what your player did to Young's ankle? He absolutely was trying to put him in the same shape as Selvin. No one would be jumping right up after something like that.
Texas got's the internet goin nuts... but V. Young and Cedric Benson got our back so now we're holding our nuts...
Why would they "fake being hurt"? That's ridiculous. Players do that intentionally only when time is running out and you're on a last minute drive or players are completely exhausted because one team had a huge time of possession advantage. Your statement is absurd.
As expected that was an awesome game. Too bad the end result wasn't in the Hogs favor. Benson is an absolute hoss. It took at least to guys to tackle him and each time he was still going forward. Matt Jones never protects the ball when he runs and it cost us last night. This was the second time I have seen him cough up the football just as Arkansas is about to take the lead late in the fourth quarter (last year against Auburn). Truthfully, I never thought Arkansas had a chance against Texas. Now that the game is over, I am still not sure if I just underestimated the Hogs or overestimated the Horns. Either way it was a hard fought game and without the safety, they may still be playing as we speak. I hope all of you that traveled to the Hill enjoyed yourselves.
Vince will be alright, he's still only a redshirt sophomore. He's had better games than that on the College level already. Benson is a beast. He's really been improving since late last season and he looks even faster. He really could win the Heisman this year. If you guys aren't complaining about Davis not passing, you're complaining about him not running. Get off it. The team had a good game plan going in. Remember, they missed a field goal and and didn't convert a two point conversion. They also stopped themselves several times with stupid penalties. But the game plan was fine, Benson left, Benson right, Benson up the middle. Matt Jones is really good. I can't believe he doesn't get talked about more on the national level. He basically kept his team in the game with his scrambling and arm. We'll see how well Arkansas recovers because they seem to really get up for Texas. All and all good fun.
How could I have known the circumstances of the situation at the time. It took someone the time of transferring it over to their pc, hosting it, and getting it circulated for me to see it. I was at the game. The replay they showed after the play was of the "Excedrin headache hit of the game." But, he DID jump up right after that.
IMO VY was trying to get a penalty. He thought if he came up lame the officials would notice the circumstances and call the 15 yarder. Disagree with me? Well, when is VY's surgery scheduled? Meeting with a doctor? How's the icepack this morning? Dude was NOT hurt. How hard is that to see? How many plays was he out? ummm...ONE! He was faking it. Anyone who has had an ankle twisted knows exactly how painful it is. You can't come back and run at full speed if you've twisted your ankle. VY did...maybe he's a god (as UT fans would have me believe). But, I'm going to have to go with the much more feasible opinion: he faked it.
well you're certainly exhibiting all the intelligence i've come to expect from someone educated in arkansas.
Another QB can't connect and G. Davis gets blamed again. UT will be in trouble this year if you make them throw, if the first two games are any indication. A 200 yard rusher and somehow the OC is to blame for something? Huh?
All I know is that when I eat a steak I can't tell the difference between a femal bovine or male bovine.
That's pretty surprising...I've always heard that bull doesn't make good meat because of its toughness.
Perhaps it's the OC coordinator's job to develop QB's, especially when he also holds the title of QB coach. And before anyone starts spewing how coaching doesn't matter, look at Carson Palmer at USC. Before Norm Chow, Carson Palmer was talented but very inconsistent. Chow helped develop Palmer's skills and made the USC offense play to his strengths. He molded a talented, gifted, athlete to the #1 pick. Matt Leinart is in line to be a top pick. Are they far superior in talent to Chris Simms and Vince Young? Chris Simms always had a low delivery that resulted in many batted balls at the LOS. He also had difficulty reading zone coverages. He made throw after throw consisting of 5 yard outs and 50 yard bombs. Anything in-between was non-existent. Simms never improved during his 4 years despite playing with the most talented receiver ever at UT. Vince Young has a funky delivery. He also doesn't make the best reads. Young is in his 3rd season at UT, one of which was on the sideline "learning". Has he "learned" anything? Young has shifty feet and his technique is horrible. Most players have their greatest growth at the college level. If they do not receive the proper coaching, they regress to their instincts and never develop all around QB skills. Vince Young's progression will be a true test of whether Greg Davis can mold potential into talent. For those without a clue, the offensive coordinator position at a major university is usually a stepping stone for a head coaching job. Mike Leach has moved on to Texas Tech. Mangino has moved on to Kansas. Bob Stoops is on his 3rd offensive coordinator at OU. UT still has Greg Davis - the same Greg Davis with no major head coaching job offers.
Funny how good Chris Simms looks playing in Tampa Bay these days. He is finally getting some real coaching. DD
I just returned from Arkansas an hour ago, and I'm f'n exhausted. The drive back to Austin absolutely sucked after 2 days of nonstop drinking. I'll post details later. Hook 'Em Horns.
