I think UT doing their horns signal is NOT rubbing it other team's faces. That is their school's hand thingy...sign, signal, whatever. Many schools have them. Texas Tech has their guns. A&M whoops and shoots their guns too. TCU has the little hornfrog thingy. Pretty much every school has something for their school. Opposing fans making fun of it is part of the rivalry...sawing horns off, shooting the guns down, whatever...usually its in good fun. Its when opposing coaches do it that its dumb. They should be above that. Another thing...I've been to games at UT and seen people get their cars keyed because they had the opposing school's sticker on their car. I'm not a fan of the way UT treats opposing fans at their school. Heck, my sister in law got spit on by a drunk UT student. I read a bad story about an A&M experience, but I will say that is an exception to the rule. Every time I've gone or one of my friend's have gone to a game in College Station, they comment how cool the fans tend to be before and after the game...in the parking lot, at the bars, whatever. I've walked away from several games in College Station with A&M fans giving the good game speech whether they won or lost to opposing fans.
Yeah, except for when the band get's chased off the field by the fans. Or when some ROTC pulls his sword (on more than one occassion). I think I'd rather have inverted horns pointed at me than a sword.
I trust you weren't walking on the grass? I used to go to A&M games when I was a little kid during the Jackie Sherrill days. I had my aggie shirt my aggie cap and I was walking with my step-dad who to this day hasn't missed a home game in over 10 years. One time I made the horrible mistake of actually stepping on a patch of grass. I had 3 very large buzzcuts and one husky woman yell at me at the top of their lungs to GET OFF THE F-ING GRASS!!. That really made me want to go there when I got older....
Do you have to bring up baseball in all college sports discussions? Even in years that UT was closer to a championship than Rice? Sounds to me like an inferiority complex. Looks like Jones B-School took a little hit this year as well.
for all you UT people that maybe can do something about it... at UT baseball games.. it is not acceptable to allow people to sit up on uhaul trucks and get wasted the whole game without cops near by.. then proceed to dump alcohol on.. harass children, and everything else to the opposing teams fans... personally I don't like a bunch of drunk idiots getting up in my face with their BS about I wish I could get into UT.... when you harass vandy fans about not being able to get into UT.. you have a problem.. I know they aren't the fans as a whole, but when you allow fans to get drunk outside the game on top of uhaul trucks.. I hold UT responsible.. and one day when their is a fight .. maybe they will then do something about it.. yahoos on uhauls.
Lil Pun, do you recognise the difference between rooting for your team and rooting against the other team? As an Astros fan living in the Midwest for the last many years I have gone to many Astros-Cubs and Astros-Cardinals games in Chicago and St. Louis. I always wear an Astros hat/jersey and cheer loudly for the Stros but rarely get harrassed because most people respect that I am cheering my team but not booing theirs. The horns up vs horns down is the same thing. Maybe you don't see a difference but I think most do. It's the difference between viewing your opponent with respect or not.
To be fair, the Horns have been beating the Aggies like a red-headed step-child for the last several years. Of course, A&M is closer to being Baylor than OU these days...
I've heard otherwise. Mack and Dodds don't want to play Arkansas anymore. The two game series was to honor Royal and Broyles. Royal warned Mack about scheduling Arkansas...no win situation for UT. It gives Arkansas recruiting exposure in Texas. Also, UT dropped Utah from future schedules.
Utah dropped out of those games, not UT. "Texas associate athletic director Butch Worley is in discussions this week about the Longhorns' tentative three-game series against Utah. There is a letter of agreement, but no signed contract regarding the series, which has Utah traveling to Austin in 2007 and 2009. An away game would be played in Salt Lake City in 2008. Worley said that with Texas Christian joining the Mountain West Conference next season, Utah would like to move back the series against Texas. There are no contingency plans, as of yet, for another team to take over the Utes' spots in the Longhorns' schedules. There are a lot of crazies at A&M, but the majority are good non-violent folks. The Corps does get too over zealous with their swords...again...a lot of them are just idiots. I've heard Nebraska has really friendly fans. I was at the Tech vs UT game a couple of years ago. Tech fans are silly because during the game, they are soooooo boring and unenergetic, but when it comes to public displays of stupidity and violent acts just to garner attention, they have too much of that. I can understand emotions boiling over, and again, every school (UT, A&M, etc.) has crazy fans that overshadow the majority of normal peaceful reasonable people; but my experiences at Tech (and I have stayed there for a few weeks, and have close friends there), when it comes to sports, well their crazies are different. Again, most Tech fans are fine, but their crazies aren't like A&M crazies (undying devotion the the team, too much pride, too many Corps idiots), UT crazies (too cocky, too drunk, cusses too much)....Tech crazies, they just seem like poorly raised kids who want to start fights. Not in a "you're disrespecting me, I have to fight you" manner, but in a "this is boring sitting here for 3 hours...I know nothing about football...hey we just won/ or lost and I have a reason to fight now" No reason will legitimize crazies for acting the way they do. I've just noticed differences in Tech crazies. But again, I truly believe that most fans are normal people. We just need to do a better job of policing the crazies when they get out of hand.
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2787644 Enjoy the rivalry revival while it lasts No plans for UT, Arkansas to meet again in the near future Win or lose on Saturday, Arkansas coach Houston Nutt has no plans to encourage another meeting with Texas. And since UT's schedules are set about eight years in advance, coach Mack Brown says he's too old to think further away than that. ...
Think about the source of that article! Nutt knows that going into texas to play ANYONE is a huge coup with recruits. After the home-away series with USC Arkansas has TCU. No way in HELL Nutt doesn't want to play Texas. If I wasn't on my way out I could dig up some Mack Brown quotes that say he was told not to extend the series further than 2 games by Royal.
