It just shows how mediocre the average taste in music is. The reason why their sales are high is not b/c their music is catchy, but rather b/c they just so much airtime. The average music listener doesn't want to find his own music through different mediums like the internet, and thus will just buy what is force fed to him.

But if you want to see the actual numbers, I think you should just look at the download figures from torrent sites like Oink. Nickelback only has a few hundred downloads of even their most famous albums.

You can have smaller indie bands like Voxtrot, Band of Horses, Midlake, Beirut literally getting thousands of downloads within a few days of their album being released. These bands the mainstream really doesn't know about, but are big amongst people who listen to alot of music.

Generally, people on the internet are the savviest and most knowledgeable people of the general population. Thus I would rather give more importance to something like torrent download figures from a place like Oink, rather than looking at straight Billboard figures.

I have no idea the premise behind the first video, but if its for real, I've lost a TON of respect for Billy Gibbons.

I think Nickelback sucks, but I can't really blame people for liking them. You can't help what sparks your interest... you like what you like and that's it.

Good point, like what you like. Well...except the guy who cracked on AC-DC. That guy can go lock himself in a closet and listen to Boy George all day.

Agree with your first sentence. Fatty annoys me at various times but I will give his band AC/DC some props because they do warrant it. I know they sound like a band that can only play 3 notes but a song like "Thunderstruck" is completely different from "Highway to Hell" (we won't get into the similarities between "TNT" and "Dirty Deeds", lol). You have to give some respect for the fact that AC/DC has been around a long time. Granted they haven't had a good album since "The Razor's Edge" but their canon of songs is still better than 85% of the artists that have done music in the last 50 years.

I didn't know that, either, but listening to about 20-30 seconds of that video I can see how it does sound a little country-ish.

I say you're right on par with the thread.

And I agree that AC/DC stinks just as Nicklecrap stinks... they've got hits, but they all sound the same.

The best bands in the world ALWAYS sound like themselves though... don't they?

I mean everybody can't be Outkast.

Wow - I didn't know that ZZ Top was going through such hard times. Billy Gibbons should realize that there are other ways to pull out of it than whoring yourself to damn Nickelback and appearing in those chumps' videos.

Wow. For someone who claims to be so proficient on music, you certainly have jumped on this bandwagon in an extremely closed-minded way.

Here is a band who writes their own music & songs, doesn't go political at every freaking concert, and actually seem to be enjoying what they do. I went to one of their concerts a few years back, and it was thoroughly enjoyable simply because the band honestly seemed like they were having a blast on stage. Yet because you feel the songs sound too similar (which I disagree with), and the guys doesn't have a wide vocal range (like Sheryl Crow ever did?), you call them talentless chumps. Amazing.

I expect this from some of the music trolls on here, Manny, but I expected better from you. You can hate their sound, but you really can't fault them for much else.
