It's almost impossible to truly tank from a financial standpoint. The hit in terms of ticket sales and public bad will is just too much for most teams... unless you REALLY suck. I mean, do I think the Rockets are much more likely to beat the Lakers with John Wall or Evan Turner rather than a 15ish pick? Of course. But it's just impossible in terms of PR. We wholeheartedly agree. Signed, Ironically, the Rockets are in a eerily similar situation this year with the Yao-Robinson parallel.
Play for now, not for future. Please forgive me. I don't understand the concept of tanking. Here we have a team can play. Why not play hard?
/thread Our team has already won far too many games but tanking is for losers. This team plays too hard to just all of the sudden lay down for anyone. It is going to be hard to get in the top 8 but I still think that the Thunder will start to choke down the stretch as their young guys aren't used to playing for the postseason. Anything can happen once you make the playoffs...yes, the odds are against us in upsetting the #1 seed (this is of course if we make it in as the #8 seed). But we have already beaten the Lakers once even though they were missing Gasol BUT we didn't have Kevin Martin either. It would also be refreshing to see us make it after no one expected us to (which was obvious when were given ZERO nationally televised games this season). I say continue to play hard and get in the playoffs any way you can. This will only help us get everything where we need to get it when Yao is ready to come back.
What a great idea! Let's tank the season less than 55 games into it for an inknown commodity! Not smart. (Had to bring it back.)
All of you turds who want to "tank" GTFO of here and start being fans of the Timberwolves, Nets, Clippers, Warriors or Pistons. You misrepresent what the Rockets are all about.
"I'm a huge rocket fan! We should tank the season! Anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot!" I don't know if it's HISD or what, but sometimes I'm embarrassed by some of the way fellow Rocket fans use their brain.
Because of the Eastern conference, the difference in draft picks from lottery to playoffs is from 14 to 19. Still, I think the Rockets will try to win. Experience is everything. There is a time to tank, and now is not it. For Golden State, Minnesota, Sacramento...it is time for them to tank.
It seems that the OP and only a handful of other guys are true Rockets fans. The rest of us in this world are just idiots. I would dispute your points but what do I know, I'm only an idiot who wants this team to do their best. I'm going to check out dictionary.com because apparently I don't know what being a fan means.
You guys know that tanking might result in a top 3 pick which would go a long way in enticing a team like Cle or Tor to do a sign and trade.
Yeah, but the Rockets just aren't bad enough to add very many ping pong ball combinations. At worst they'll be in 11th place, and we may just get that even trying our hardest to win. The chance is very small they would get a top three pick, is it really worth stunting the development/chemistry of our current team for the 1 in 100 chance we get a top 3 pick?
They can try, they just don't have to try hard. More like trying to finish the game, rather than trying to win the game.
Hmmm. Who knows probably Budinger/both Knicks future picks for Douglas-Roberts/Wall. Has anybody ever thought about that? Well, it makes sence that if nobody signs with NY/NJ then they'll consider this kind of move atleast NJ would if the last thing on their mind was to please fans since they are moving anyways. Why would they get them all happy when everybody knows they'll be moving when their lease is up? Why not stockpile more picks and continue to tank untill you move? We go with Wall and Monroe through trade and draft Alabi with our own pick. I got Monroe projected to slide down to #23, but he can be snatched back up @9. Then Alabi @16.
