Christ, what the hell are people thinking? "Definitely" beat them? WTF? There are people here who actually think we can upset a 1st seed? Our only win was when they were without Gasol. We don't even have a winning record against them this year, we don't have favorable matchups, and the player that actually gave them trouble in the lowpost, we traded away. When the warriors beat Dallas that one year, they had all that going for them. When Denver beat the Sonics, they had 5 game series to surprise them in. We're struggling even just to make the playoffs. We need to look forward about our realistic goals and not have dreams about beating the Lakers.
Yeah this team needs to stay together and avoid the lottery we do not need wall to win, we need time... th time for this summer to pass, the time for yao to heal, the time for DM to work his magic once more. (Btw he does have balls now although I said he didn't previously.)
You can't expect a team to flip from tank mode to championship run mode over one summer. It's unrealistic, nay, fatalistic.
One of those guys you mentioned could easily fall. They always do in every draft. Not only that, we can always package one of the Knicks picks with our picks to move up (especially given the chance that they could lose value if they add 2 max FAs). And sorry 16-22. The dropoff between the West and East is not that huge. As of right now, the top 8 in the East are all above 500 (Houston is only 3 games over 500 and only 2.5 games out). I still think they should play to win and not worry about draft position. This draft is very deep and loaded with bigs. And we do have the chips to move up if need be.
Because doing so would be classless. That isn't and shouldn't be the Rockets way. People gripe about how McGrady didn't show any class or respect for the organization in the way he handled things last year, then they turn around and advocate tanking, which shows the same lack of class. Get over it already.
I remember one of my most disappointing games I went to in my life was when I was younger and was sooo excited to see Kevin Garnett play, late in the season, and they took him out so they could tank. I NEVER want to see my team tanking.
What if the New York tank until 2015 in order to avoid giving us their first round pick in 2012? Two second round picks are a slap in the face compared to a top 10 pick. The Knicks pick is top 5 protected. I like the right to swap picks next season. I hope the east is really good next season, just so we have a chance at a 2nd or 3rd pick in the draft. If the Knicks get the #1 pick I will make it my personal mission to take out Stern.
I would love to get Wesley Johnson from Syaracuse.. <a href="http://s41.photobucket.com/albums/e280/escodj/?action=view¤t=WesleyJohnson.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e280/escodj/WesleyJohnson.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
I want to be an idiot too... Come on OP. Ill take playoffs one and done as well...who knows, once you get in the playoffs crazy things can happen...GSW 2007?!?
This is a GREAT thread!! It'd be great to tank the rest of the season - perhaps even end up with the #8-10 pick. Then we could draft a pretty decent player. But that player wouldn't guarantee a championship. So then we'd probably have to tank 2010-11 as well in order to make sure that we get a number 1 pick. By that time all the players we currently have who actually TRY hard will be so used to losing that we'll just turn the team over to whomever we pick up with our 2011 pick (oh wait - we're swapping that with the Knicks, so let's hope they suck hard too) - and see what they can do. At least by 2012 we know that we're getting 2 1st round picks. Should be competitive again by 2013? Perhaps 2014? There's plenty of franchises who adopt this path, and it's the losing path. Look how hard the Bobcats are trying just to sneak into the playoffs - because that is what the sport is about, making the playoffs and getting better every year in an effort to try and win it all. YOU CANNOT WIN IT IF YOU'RE NOT IN THE PLAYOFFS And sure, we might make 8th seed this season and get bundled out in the first round. So what? At least we made it!
Think about the Cleveland Browns they were 1-10, and could had the 1st or 2nd draft pick, if they just lose, but no, they keep fighting and won the last 4 games. They could be in the Top 3, but because they won till the last game, they got to the 7th pick. You think the browns are stupid because they won their last games?
intentionally tanking is stupid because there's no guarantee you'll get the top spot, or anything good. Memphis has been tanking for over a decade already, you'd think if tanking works they would have won by now.
Isn't this the same as fixing matches? Do you want to go to jail like that shamed referee? Use your brain man..new jersey aren't tanking..they just suck big time. Tanking will get you in a lot of trouble..legal trouble.
Tanking is for losers! I'd be ashamed to be associated with that type of crap, or even mention it. Play to win everyday, baby!
So just a question for people who want to tank? How does that work? If we're in a close game with a few minutes left do we sub everyone out and put Hill, Temple, Taylor, Cook, and Armstrong? I never understood how tanking works.

What you suggested is a blatant and obvious way to do it, but yeah...it would still fall under the concept of tanking.
