freaking exactly. some people are so blind to the facts. how did denver upset the 1993 #1 seed sonics? cuz of matchups. its entirely possible that if jordan's bulls had to go through hakeem's rockets, they might have less than the 6 championships they ended up with. we all know that the bulls really struggled versus the rockets at the time. i mean, just look at the mavs vs warriors a couple of years ago. its not even like you have to go back too far to see how dumb this is. for a rockets fan to ask for the team that creates the biggest matchup problems is just idiotic.
Never said we had to play the Jazz in the first round. It just seems like too many posters are participating in this big rain dance to the basketball Gods, praying to avoid the Jazz like they're this giant juggernaut. Heck, it seems like more people are clamoring to avoid the Jazz than the Lakers. Last time I checked, we've lost four straight to LA because Kobe has our number in a bad way. I think that if we're not going to win the NBA championship, the second best thing would be to dispatch our arch rivals sometime in the playoffs. We're both going to be WC contenders for awhile, and we need to overcome this bugaboo sooner than later. They're the only team that strikes fear in our hearts, and if we want to be the best, then we've got to overcome obstacles like that. And I'm not a dumbass.
I'm sure Morey has stats to show what teams we match up with well, and what ones will be available to line up with seed-wise to meet in the first round. And if he sees a chance to move up or down that is advantageous to the Rockets, he will give the order to RA to have it done. So, if you really want to have the Jazz, move to Utah, where you can see them play whenever you'd like.
This is the flaw in your logic. No, the rockets dont have to beat the jazz to be the best. the rockets just have to beat 4 teams to be champions. Not all 16 playoff teams. its irrelevant how the rockets match up with, think about, or fear the teams they don't play.
the jazz are not the payton/kemp sonics. we can beat them if we face them. it wont be easy but its possible. i agree with the op, where we shouldnt be throwing games or running and hiding from the jazz but at the same time maybe meeting them in second round or something may be better. just so that we can get the tmac monkey off our backs. it would feel really good to knock out the jazz and lakers tho. then there can be no "MJ wasnt there" crap about us winning.
the 2006 mavs agree with you. all sarcasm aside, if the rockets' best chance of winning a championship is to not go through utah, then by all means, dont go through utah. i really dont know why youre worried about having to "justify" a championships the rockets haven't even won yet, and probably wont win, if they have to go through utah. big picture man. i dont give a crap about the jazz. we could not beat them for the next 400 years and i'd be fine with it. you know why? because i am a rockets fan, not an anti-jazz fan.
Calling someone a dumbass and making that nugget of a statement is quite poignant. When you're in the playoffs, the goal is to win the championship. There is little difference between a team that loses 4-3 in the finals and a team that goes 0-82.
Is that anything like the difference between a waitress and a stripper...2 weeks? Don't forget to tip your bartender.
lmao. I take a lot of heat for my opinions but that's all they are, my opinions. I don't WANT to play the Jazz, but I'm just confident. There's just no value in cowering or whining.
I don't support tanking just to avoid the Jazz. But if dropping a game means Jazz will fall to the 8th and play the lakers, then hell yeah.
i dont want the jazz, but man, watching them play dallas the other night, they were HORRIBLE. no defense at all. and boozer is not playing well. if thats the jazz we get in the playoffs, then ill be fine playing them. but u just never know.
dont worry. if we play the jazz with yao guarding boozer, i guarantee boozer will average 40/20 for the series.
I want to see the Rockets beat the Jazz, but I've been going to the playoffs the past two years and I want change. Either play New Orleans which we will smash easily, or Blazers which cannot hang with our depth and defense.
If we want to get into the 2nd round, AVIOD the Jazz is a better choice. we always let them get the better of us but we never let ourselves get the better of them...
