Why stop at the Jazz? Why don't we bring on the Lakers in the first round? We'll have to beat the best in order to be the best right?? Hell, why don't we make it even more challenging and leave Yao Ming and Ron Artest on the bench for our 1st round series. Imagine the confidence we'll have for the 2nd round if we manage to beat the Lakers without Yao and Ron!! No guts no glory!
what first round victory could possibly be more satisfying than beating the jazz? why not? might as well get the damn monkey off our back!
Why?? Two years ago?? That team had a game in Utah where 4 players scored. If that happens again, I'll be a monkey's uncle. Last year?? No Yao(offensive stabilizer that the defense has to account for) and no Rafer for half the series. Oh, and the team was 2-1 in games our starting point guard finished. Including a SPLIT in Utah. Last year we win that series with a healthy Rafer. Last year we are the number 1 seed with a healthy Yao. If we have to face the Jazz, sure it will be a boring series but this year's team is so much different from last years team, and that team was so much different from the one the previous year.
and I'm sure you're still disappointed we couldn't play seattle in 93-94 and 94-95. one day...you'll get over it.
I don't want the Jazz and don't think we should be trying to get them but I am sick of these threads about how we have to avoid the Jazz at all costs. As I said in another thread there is a lot of respect paid to the Jazz and by respect I mean fear because when you fear your opponent you are giving them respect. I personally would love to see the Rockets throttle the Jazz rather than trying to run away from them. The Jazz are a tough matchup for us but they aren't invincible. They are terrible on the road and we have beaten them at Utah too. I mean look if the T-Wolves who other than a half-@ssed attempt to get Kevin Love ROY are tanking can beat the Jazz then we can too. GO ROX!
Some us are simply calling for a little balance and common sense not stupid bravado. This "anyone but the Jazz" mentality has gotten carried away with itself. This board has turned the Jazz into the 86 Celtics. My point has been it would be nice to get favorable matchups, but if your goal is to get beyond the second round, then avoiding the Jazz in the first is not as important as avoiding the Lakers in the second. The Lakers are in a class by themselves. That you even compare the desire to play the Jazz with the desire to play the Lakers just shows how much the fearful euphoria has overtaken you!
we would have the advantage of homecourt advantage. And that round out the list of advantages we would have playing the jazz... Our main weaknesses are: -Teams that can run -Teams with a big point guard, especially one that can score -Teams with outside shooting bigs Aside from the first weakness, the Jazz are the best in the league with having a big point guard who can score, and having outside shooting bigs. So my question to you, unless you are an idiot, why would you want to play the jazz? I could walk to work every day, doesnt mean that I do. I agree with your mentality that we shouldn't be scared to play anyone, but to say you would rather play the jazz than anyone else is saying you hope the rockets go one and done again this year.
Nobody's scared of Jazz, Rockets have beaten them numerous times in past. The thing is that Rockets could find easier opponent in the first round. And to add I'd really like to see Lakers-Jazz matchup, that would be very interesting.
I'm with the OP on this one. If we can't beat the j*zz -- or whoever we draw in the first round -- we don't DESERVE to be in the second round. Simple as that. If this team goes up against the j*zz in the first round and wins, it'll be a much better Rockets team that moves on the second round.
Redemption. Ultimately we are going to try and win the remainder of our games. I don't believe coach Adelman would tank games for a better matchup.
Part of proving yourself in this league is conquering your enemies. Bring on the Jazz. Bring on the Lakers. I don't care who we play. I know with this year's team we're going to see 100 percent effort out there. If our best effort isn't enough, then it's not meant to be. But I think we can take the Jazz if we have homecourt. We just have to play rockets defense and not allow Williams to do whatever he want.
None of you seem to understand, we won't be locked in a series with the Jazz. The Jazz will be locked in the series with us. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/D9UF1HsP0K0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/D9UF1HsP0K0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
People is scared of them for that last game, but I think we can make a reset in the playoffs and beat them. We have HCA, and we are 2-0 with them in Toyota this season. If you go to Delta Center with a 2-0 (or later, a 3-2) it's another thing and you can win here too. They own us right now mentally, so it's only about winning the first 2 games and make them know we are better this year. Because we are.
I also want UTAH. Redemption time. With homecourt, we will beat them. We almost beat them last time but our bench totally suck. Our bench are fall superior now.
Looks a lot like the Blazers. Course, Roy is really a 2 but he handles the ball alot much like a point.
I want Lakers for the first round!! We can knockdown our biggest threat and take them out right off the bat!
I'm sure fans of the Michael Jordan led Chicago Bulls still harbor a void in their hearts not having had the chance to face the Olajuwon Rockets in the Finals. 6 championships be damned!
