It's funny that, for all his athleticism, Mason has never averaged even 1 steal or .5 blocks throughout his 8 year career (31 mpg).

I think it would be a mistake to trade away head for someone who doesn't shoot the 3-ball all that well. Head was our only consistent 3-point threat last year....we need a few more shooters, not less.

I would love to see Rafer gone though.

When I first read that Mason thought he could get $8 million + a year, I thought he was severely r****ded.

Then I read this thread and realized good old Desmond is only mildly r****ded.

Fair enough, so now explain why Portland would even consider doing that deal. They've got way too many bodies already, why would they add more? Why would Portland bring in a bunch of bench players that would have no long term future with them?

Why would the Rockets want to touch damaged goods like Miles for that contract? Morey would run away screaming from Miles' contract.

Now that we've added salary with Butler and Scola, I doubt that you see the Rockets use Sura in a trade since that would most likely push us into Luxury Tax land.

Portland would do it to get rid of Miles. Why do you think they are dangling Jarrett Jack? Can't get rid of Miles any other way but to attach him to assets. Rafe gives them a vet point guard to come off the bench, he's much more useful than Darius to them at a more reasonable salary. Sura is cap relief. Head is a shooter they can use when the paint is clogged up. And Snyder is an expiring.

You're probably right about Morey running away from Miles. And I would to at this point without seeing him run up and down the court. Like I said above, you don't make the trade to get Miles, you make the trade to get Outlaw and Freeland. And we probably won't go into the LT, so Sura's deal will probably be cut. But, if that is the thinking, they we are pretty much stuck with this squad. I happen to believe Miles is not gonna retire and when it becomes clear that he isn't retiring, then the Blazers have a huge problem on their hands.

Rafer, Head, Sura, Lucas, and Snyder are all trade bait. I think Reed is a cheaper replacement for Snyder. That's over $12 million. That means as long as we re-sign Hayes and Deke for a combined $3.24 mill or less, then we will still be slightly below the salary cap (provided Laundry gets minimum), which I think is feasible. That means that we could potentially move all or some of these guys in trade, including Sura's contract for equal salary dollars and still not bust the luxury tax. We could potentially take Miles, a re-signed Outlaw (say $10 million for 3 years) and the rights to Freeland and not be in Lux Tax.

It would be a huge gamble. Miles could be dead space for the next 2 seasons until we could move him as an expiring, or he could come back and make a Bob McAdoo like contribution to multiple championship runs. But ever forgetting about him, I would still be tempted to do that deal to get Outlaw and Freeland.

First of all - Mason is one of the best people in the NBA. If you remember what happened (correctly), Yao blocked his shot and as Mason and Yao fell to the floor, Yao fell on top of Mason. While there was no way for Yao to avoid it and he did all he could to stay off of him, Mason assumed that Yao was pushing him down when what Yao was doing was trying to avoid crushing him.

It was a heat of the moment thing and Mason apologized to the big guy afterwards.

Anyway, we could use a guy who is ready to go if he feels it is needed. Apologize afterwards if you are wrong. But don't assume that people are just "competing" in goodwill.

That is one of the problems Yao has. He thinks everyone is out there to compete and show sportsmanship (like he is), but there are guys who are trying to embarrass him and cause injury.

Those guys need their noses busted in.
