Quick question, were you playing 1 on 1? If yes, leaving was fine. However, if you were playing a team game, even if the guy was being a real @$$, you should have stuck it out until the game was over then left. It sucks for the people who didn't bring a ball. Oh well. It doesn't matter either way, but that's what I would have done.
Smokey, That is the only bad part of it......I left and the game had to end. I guess, I was making a point, and sticking to my principals. I don't want to fight a guy over some stupid YMCA game, nor do I want to waste my time with someone I wouldn't hang out with anyway. I just felt I had better things to do then to waste time listening to him woofing. DD
I played ball with some guys at school, and I remember them hacking like crazy. However, I didn't call them...I got even! Now, you don't get any easy layups on me. I'm like most of you in that I very rarely call fouls. I'm usually pretty fair and will call things out on me or say I fouled. Others aren't so great and will argue the whole game, making the game suck. I remember one game we were down 1 but only needed 2 for game. (we had 2's) We kept jacking up 3's and this one guy kept fouling me on my shots. I got kind of angry and called a foul as he fouled me on my shot...and unfortunately the ball went in. I wish I had shut my mouth since we could of won, but instead we had to disallow the goal. (that's how we play anyways.) That's one lesson I learned about calling fouls.
Did you confront the guy about the crap he was pulling during the game, or did you just spontaneously decide to leave with just a minimal explanation?
Fadeaway, I made it perfectly clear that I thought he was calling BS, and told him that if he stuck to his crappy traveling call, and disallowed an obvious hack on his teamate, that I would leave. He stuck to it, and shot a 3 for the ball saying that the traveling happened BEFORE the foul...it was the 3rd time he used that excuse in the game, meanwhile he is switching pivot feet and camping out in the lane. Ridiculous.....he was cheating, and my time is better spent elsewhere. I would rather be at work or at home then waste my time with losers who try to cheat on a YMCA court. DD
Hey come on now. White guys there arent the only ones who cant play. I have alot of black guys who can't play worth a ***T either. The first court at the place I go is always full of the wannabe guys who try to act like a balla, weaing all the arm/head bands etc, but cant do crap on the court except pose, and yell.
No matter who is playing on the first court at the rec center here, I know not to play on the first court, or there are going to be the same kind of guys you had to play with DaDakota. Calling p***y fouls, getting too serious into the game, When it is a fricken Pick up Game!!! I can't stand guys who get pissed and yell ***t through out a pick up game.
I remember I used to punt the basketball over the fence when things like that happened...I think I was ten at the time.
I could remember one time where this guy on my team.. that we didn't like because he kept on making weak calls and stupid rules. He even screamed at the other team because they took the ball out but the dude who was passing it in had his foot on the line!! I still see him now and then and I really don't like his style of game. To me for a regular pick-up game would be:: First game to 15 points no deuce, and the only foul would have to be full body or an obvious push to the hand while the shooter is shooting. Traveling and all that is called unless you are meant to show-boat and what not Thats how it should be done.
Yeah, but was that the only call that you vocally protested, or were you getting on his case about his silly calls all throughout the game? After two or three bogus calls, I would have been on his ass every time he opened his mouth. ie: "Oh great, here we go again.. *rolleyes*" "You sure like making pathetic calls. That the only way you can score?" "Give me a break." "Don't be such a p***y. Just play the damn game." If you only spoke up that one time, the other guys may not have understood why you got so ruffled all of a sudden.
Fade, They knew...I was letting him know about his weak ass calls. However, I felt bad for the guys, but man, I really don't want to waste time on idiots. DD
I hate when dudes call p***y fouls like that. To me, that is one of the most embarassing things you can do in basketball, or any other game for that matter. You shouldn't tolerate that crap, but I don't think you should have left either. The better course of action would have been to ice him out, or better yet embarass him in the game. And hey, when is the next cc.net pickup game?
DD, you asked, so I'm gonna be straight up with you. I hate p***y callers too, but to take away the game ball in a 12-12 game was weak. If he wanted to shoot for it tell him to f-off, ball out. If he continues to talk, take the ball out and score and call 13-12. At that point you can offer to take the point back with your possesion or it's 13-12 take it or leave it. Just my 2 cents.
Htown, Yep, I kind of see where you are going. I felt weird about doing it, but the guy had just been a dick once too often, and I did not want to blow my top. I wish it was not my ball, and I could have just walked out, but I did it. No looking back now...at least I have something to laugh about when I hit the Y on Thurs. DD
