Sorry, I like meh's well reasoned, focused thread rather than a shotgun throw darts at a dart board post.

Hey I'm not a big fan of Al so don't lump me into the Big Al bandwagon

You say that the PF position is changing and cited Lamar Odom, David West, KG, Bosh being the prime examples. Well, not to be an ass, IIRC the 4 teams that has went to the Finals in the past 3 years aren't SPEED teams. If fact, I would hardly call KG a speed player. A lean and long player, yes, but hardly a sprinter like he was in Minnesota.

Fact of the matter is, what's been evident is that, in the playoffs, speed at the power forward position doesn't triumph over size/rebounding/strength. Josh Smith is a prolific shot blocker but he doesn't bring in the TOUGHness I want from the PF position.

Odom's a nice change-of-pace player but it was the combination of Gasol and Bynum (both are very good rebounders) against Garnett and Perkins (who are also very good rebounders) that started.

The player I always wanted at PF next to Yao is a doing-the-dirty-work type of player. A player that will go in and grab the rebounds Yao can't get.

My response to those who believe we may give up too much is this: Morey has brought us Scola, CBud, Brooks, Landry, Ariza, Hill, Patterson, and Lowry. That's 7 solid rotation level players in a span of 3 years. Even if we gut half of that depth, how long do you think it would take for Morey to rebuild that depth? 1 year? 2 years?

If the star brought in is less than 30 years old, then there's no doubt he'll play with a deep team at worst 2 years down the road. Most likely, Morey will refill the depth in 1 year.

Just when have you seen Morey panic? In reallity if we trade Scola for a younger piece
like you mentioned are we not essentially rebuilding? Let's give Yao a chance before you
put him 6ft under.....worse case senario Yao doesn't come back to form and he comes
off the books next year...unless Les keeps him strictly as a cash cow....
    reguardless in "Morey we Trust".

A string of good players does not mean they will always be replacable in a short time. Remember when we traded for Barkley and how long it took for us to return to a well rounded form.

I preface this by saying that I LOVE Rudy, and I love Carroll Dawson. But there's no comparison between Morey's staff and CD/Rudy's.

Snippets from the Rockets 2001 draft.

I like the first three choices! If we could get one of those three which is highly unlikely.. I'd drive up every weekend to watch the Rockets play!

I would love to get gerald wallace. He's a great defender and he provides tons of athleticism that the rockets are missing right now.

but i cant see the bobcats parting ways with him...

I'd hold onto the NY picks and see what we are going to get with them, unless we can get a star by trading those picks. The best chance for getting a franchise player is still through high draft picks.

    THIS!

The only way you give you up the NY picks is if you have a shot and bringing in CP3... and that's it.

Brooks, Jefferies, Battier, and NY Picks would probably be enough to bring him here if New Orleans was looking to cut salary. They can buyout Battier (we can send them cash to help with the buyout) and then resign him for a playoff run...

    CP3/Lowry
    Martin/Bud/Taylor
    Ariza/Batter (after he gets resigned)/Bud
    Scola/Patterson/Hayes
    Yao/Hill

We may not have "superstar"-level talent, but there are few teams with as much depth and as many players who could take their game to the next level. Jordan Hill, anyone? The chances of that happening this season might not be as great as last season (Brooks, Landry, Budinger) because Yao will be back and we have Martin, so there won't be as many opportunities. But if we pick up Brad Miller, get Yao back and add Patterson to the mix (along with retaining Scola and Lowry), I think that amounts to a much-upgraded team. That said, I still think there's a good chance Morey makes some other big move this summer, based on his comments about upgrading the team.

Good thread meh. I just think people needs to accept the fact the tracy/yao/battier era is done and produced nothing. What the rockets needs to do is get players who can play at a good level regardless if the compliment yao or not. Call me a hater or whatever, but the rockets shouldnt me choosing players based on fitting with yao. You dont find players to fit a 25 minute a night player with major injury problems.

IMO both you and Deuce are correct. I'd love to have Smith but only if Adelman figures he can be utilized as a SF where his athleticism can be fully utilized. That leaves Bud swinging back and forth between SF and SG, but a Smith/Budinger/Martin combo would be an awesome rotation.

    Good Read Leebig,

The Rockets need to start looking at players that fit their needs and their system.

The most important need right now is a big man.. not a pg or sg..

They need a big man that can do 2 things Rebound and Play defense.. They don't need a scoring big man.

The Rockets lost a majority of thier games due to size and that's the biggest void they have at this time.

See, I don't see a need to focus on any particular position. You can neither say that we can't upgrade at any position(unless Yao's healthy), nor say we absolutely need to upgrade any position either. I wish, and believe, the Rockets are simply going to try to upgrade with whichever star is available. If that happen to be CP3, then it would be PG. If it happens to be Jefferson(personally think it's a bad fit but I'm hardly an expert), then it would be PF.

Regardless, the Rockets should try to upgrade somewhere, but it would have to be clear improvement.
