I think the Rockets are being insincere about McGrady

I think that this timetable had been predetermined long before the season began -- if my speculation is correct, everything seemed lined up and perfect until McGrady posted a couple of videos online in the summer and wrote about how he was way, way ahead of schedule with the rehab. Uh oh. You might recall that Morey was equally vague and noncommittal when asked about McGrady's progress back then.

nice post. seems the most reasonable. As you said, the question really is was T-Mac approached about managements strategy regarding his health?

As much as we may want to think that's what they should have done in terms of being fair on honest with their player, T-Mac's own history as being brutally honest when put on the spot could have caused a huge blowup. Either T-Mac would have balked at the idea of sitting out games because of how badly he wants to repair his image or he would agree to play along only to to spill the beans at a later date if things become rocky for him here in Houston and he's traded/Marbury'd. I can just imagine it now, T-Mac on Inside the NBA with TNT telling Charles Barkley that he was ready since training camp, but Morey asked him to sit out till the 23 of November so that the team could still collect insurance if he got hurt again. I'm sure Morey/Adelman thought about that possibility and deemed it too risky, hence T-Mac being left in the dark.

This is an interesting season to be sure.

this insurance still interests and confuses me.

say he misses 50 consecutive games and starting playing from the 51st game, how many game does the team get paid? 50? or 9?

say he plays every OTHER game after 50 missed games, do the rockets get paid for the games missed after 50?

if he's traded, does the other team get paid if he continues to miss games after being traded?

After he misses 41 consecutive games the team will be reimbursed for every game he misses thereafter. Games missed after 41 don't need to be consecutive.

I believe the team has already been receiving reimbursements for the consecutive games he's been missing. (Someone please confirm this)

I'ts possible T-mac is getting antsy about coming back. He recovered ahead of schedule and wants to play, while the organization wants to stick to their original timeline. Teams usually make exceptions and let there player come back early, but given T-mac's history, they just want to play it safe. At this point everything is just mere speculation.

This type of explanation seems to make the most sense. It also explains why the team isn't talking to him at all. When the insurance company asks him at a deposition: "Did you ever have a conversation with the organization about waiting on the MRI?" - No. "Did you ever have any conversations directly with either coach Adelman or Daryl Morey?" - No.

Even if they said "Just read the insurance contract," it would imply a conscious intent. I can understand not wanting to get burned by him coming back and then re-injuring himself, but still this is ugly.

The Rockets are profitable with or without the insurance money right? At the minimum, they should have handled this a lot better.

The fact of the matter is, Tracy is a PLAYER on the team, he does not run the team, own the team, or anything like that. If the coach doesnt want you in and/or the owner doesnt want you in, you wont get put in, end of story.

I see what the Rockets are doing, and why they are doing it, but this is definitely Insurance Fraud. I can see this getting very ugly.

It is the contract year for both TMAC and Adelman.

TMAC, a former superstar, wants to play.
Adelman wants the success of his team for Adelman's next contract.

Both are selfish to some degree but there should be no contradiction in both interests. They should be helping, praising and even sleeping each other right now except:

TMAC is not able to play effectively within the system, yet.

no other possibilities, no conspiracies here. no insurance stuff.

I'd trust Adelman's basketball judgment much more than TMAC's claims.

This is what Wiki says about micro fracture recovery:

"For optimal re-growth of joint surface, the patients need to be very patient and also extremely cooperative. They usually need to be on crutches for four to six weeks (sometimes longer). Sometimes a brace is needed. This all depends on the size and/or location of the joint surface defect that is being repaired or regenerated. The patients are encouraged to spend approximately 6-8 hours a day on a CPM (Continuous Passive Motion) machine that helps with optimal re-growth of joint surface. Patients usually feel pretty good and think they can avoid these critically important steps, and even start running and jumping (or playing sports) before the internal aspects of the knee, and the joint surface, are ready."

Maybe the Rockets are just being cautious are we are thinking about this way too much.

Unfortunately, this kind of simple reality is hard for a "superstar" to accept. That's why we can see free drama. love it.

TMAC needs to think of Landry, not Dorsey or Wafer.

Didn't our owner fork out close to 6 million dollars for second rounds picks?? Do you seriously think he went into this year thinking.. hmmm, Lets screw over an insurance company to get that money back.. The rockets had a couple of chances, in the off season, to go into the tank and become a money saving franchise and they passed.

If anyone or anything has done something to prevent Tracey's return its Tracey.

For those of you saying congrats on committing and wanting to come back this year, thats crap. He had a healthy big man last year and Ron Ron to help and he bailed on this team.

Tracy and the word sincere should not be in the same sentence...now insincere....that works.

    A Rockets Bedtime Story

There was once a all-star center from Nigeria. He didn't like his contract and didn't like his team. He wanted to play elsewhere.

The center was very talented and reluctant to value and trust his teammates. He did not pass out of double teams and publicly derided the other players.

The center faked an injury, and everyone in Houston wanted to trade him. The basketball team suspended him.

Then the owner of the basketball team sat next to him one night on a flight home from a game and they had a long talk. The owner and the player reached a mutual understanding of sorts.

The center recovered from his fake injury, became willing to trust his teammates and generally aligned himself with the goals of the basketball team. In the course of doing this, late in his career, he became an even more effective player and a better man.

That team eventually won back-to-back NBA championships.

Its a good thing that the basketball team didn't give up on the all-star center.

well, tmac and les do have a great relationship. i hope les sits down and talks with him and clear everything up.

all the attention should be on us playing the best team in the L (atlanta) record-wise.
