adelman is still a coach first, having a healthy tmac is a great weapon for him to have and solves problems. That means more wins, more success, and more job security for himself, whether he likes tmac or not as a person doesn't matter much. If he completely hated him, couldn't stand him, then maybe, but i dont think it's that bad, i think it was just frustration. Even his teammates showed they werent happy about it, yet they still interact with him now behind closed doors and in front of the public and support him...

Win the 25th pick you see. He's doesn't want the 13th pick but is OK with the 25th pick (ousted out of the playoffs). He wants to pick 13th slots lower with McGrady. I sometimes wonder if people get so into supporting their own arguments that they don't realize they over-support a player over the ROCKETS. Cause I tell you what, the 13th pick is more benefial for the TEAM in the long run than McGrady returning this season.

i'm not sure what you mean by that, it's just reinforcing what i posted?? If there's no evidence, there's no valid reason for them to keep holding himback. The mri can't be opinion based, there's either something wrong or not. They can't just disregard the results and say "oh well we'll wait anyway"... a lot of fans will turn on the organization in a heart beat.

Same reason Steve Novak couldn't get more PT. He's slower than Molasses on defense.

No, what I am saying is that the Rockets team doctors might differ from Tracy's personal doctors....

And the insurance will be based upon their OPINIONS......

Tmac's history of coming in and going out, and his propensity to basically make bold statements which he never backs up are against him.

The Rockets hold all the cards here and Tracy wants a new deck.

how does tracy playing = more wins? what makes you think he'll fit in, help, or be able to adapt his style to this team? he's coming off an injury and hasn't played well in what, a year and a half? how does adding him make thing better?

if they keep it status quo, at least they know what they have, and know what they are building. adding tracy to the mix isnt a long-term move, and isn't a short term move. it's just . . . a move for the sake of appeasing a spoiled one-time superstar.

how do you know he wont fit? I don't see it having any negative risks, if he doesn't work, you sit him, bench him, give him limited minutes, wait for his contract to run our or trade him. If he works out, great. He may not work out as a 37-38 mpg player in this lineup, but if you can insert him selectively when we need a scoring punch and someone with his skills, why would that not translate to more wins? It's something we don't have now and it's cost us at least one game...like i said, makes RA's job a lot easier if he can say "give it to tmac and let him go to work or create" rather than drawing up a lengthy play that still has the ball going to someone who's not a scorer.

In this case, this insencerity has went both ways....

Last yr... T-mac with the "selective game schedule" , blocked by "injury" trade, and the ultimate stunt of all by telling an outside source of his intentions before the team....a cardinal sin.

It is true that the Rockets have pulled some of the same sutff this yr with sitting him down for the money, or to let these young rockets gel together for the future even though t-mac says hes ready...So who's the bigger man to stop it?

But I am wondering one thing OP, did you create a thread last yr. of T-mac's insencerity?

after 41 games, does the team get paid going forward (i.e., for the 42nd, 43rd, 44th missed game, etc.), or they get paid for all the games missed starting from the first game missed?

    can anyone clarify?

If this is true I expect, at the very least Morey , Les & Coach 'A' to loose face when all of this is brought out into the open. :p

The way i see it, the more the team wins, the more overvalued T-Mac looks.

Look at it from a GM standpoint.

McGrady calls out for the season, the team vastly improves and makes it for the second round.
He doesn't play the start of the next season, the team shows great teamplay and commitment.
Rockets GM are somehow preventing him to return.

There is no doubt to me that Tracy will want to get back ASAP, cause the more the team wins, the more he has nothing to do with any of the recent success the team has had.

Even if he does play at some point, GM's will be very hesitant to offer money for a guy which his current GM didn't want to play evendoe he was paying him 23 millions, that's something to consider.

Look, I'm not saying the Rockets are not doing what a business does. They are a business, and the fans are the stakeholders but not the shareholders.

Again, in the industry, everyone does what's best for them and apparently everyone will be better off this way.

I'm just stating what I think happened and then what my personal opinion is about it. But I can see the other side of the coin.

As for Adelman, he wants a contract extension and every one of his assistants will be gone if he's gone. He will do what Morey says. Any good GM will make sure that the entire organization provides a consistent image at all times. Right now everyone is adjusting to the goals and objectives of the organization because it's in THEIR best interests.

But still, the only problem I see is that Morey either couldn't or didn't get McGrady on board. It is a key risk to the strategy that should be accounted for.

There's a lot of history in the situation, but it's plain to see at the moment. I have no doubt about what is happening. I just don't know whether McGrady was asked to be part of the strategy or not. That's the only real mystery to me which we will know this offseason.

The Rockets will enjoy a good summer because of the savings and that is good for us fans. But I am concerned that other FA's will hear from mac that they were insincere - whether that is true or not is the story here.

But to me the fact that Morey said he "has not" gone full out in practice is misleading. I'm a huge Morey fan - I think he is the BEST GM in the entire league. However, he did not give the full picture IMO and that was intentional and simultaneously beneficial to the Rockets. McGrady was ABLE to go full-out and did with the semi-practices - hence McGrady did not lie. Morey is saying there were no proper practices so technically his statement is true but doesn't reflect the fact that McGrady WOULD go full-out if there was a full-on practice.

Again, I'm a fan and I care about the long-term. This puts us in great position to be willing to spend more in 2010. BUT, Mac had to get screwed over image-wise for it to happen. The Rockets preyed on his poor credibility IMO when in fact this time, he was completely committed for once. His past is his fault, but the Rockets made a move to protect themselves to protect themselves since Mac did the same thing last year.

I'm not sure vengeance is a quality FA's will look for this summer.

I THINK it's per game, not sure when they collect, but I'm basing my opinion on two media articles - a poor source, to say the least.

This pretty much sums it up. Let's just wait for the 23rd. If the Rockets continue to make him sit without giving a crystal clear reason, then we have something to discuss.

This is Morey's strategy. The weapon is bureaucracy. Again, I don't believe in it, but it is a completely valid and usual approach to business. If a business can do what its shareholder wants, and make it look good to the stakeholders, then most would argue that it's doing its job. That is the role of the GM, and for better or worse, it is our strategy and we need to align ourselves with the strategy of the organization we support.

Man even when the injury seems healed, standard periods of time are there for something. Maybe the injury seems healed, and his progress is great, but the added period of resting time can lead also to prevent further injuries also.
And we can all agree that T-Mac's body is a fragile one, so rest is always well indicated.

Obviously this is all still speculation, but ...

If OP's thesis is correct (and honestly it is the scenario that makes the most sense to me right now), then the Rockets essentially screwed up by holding a grudge against McGrady over the handling of last year's injury situation and not working to repair bridges before the season started.

They obviously had reasons to be angry with him especially with how he announced that he was ending his season. But they had an entire summer to reconnect with him and at least make him feel like for however long he would remain a member of the team, they would work with him again, and they didn't. Reason why I say this is it seems that the entire organization had a plan in place that made the most sense business-wise, and everybody was in place toeing the company line -- GM, front office, coach, media affiliates, even players. Everyone except McGrady, who was left out in the cold and simply told, "you sit down there". Now it seems that ironically, McGrady has inadvertently screwed the company over again, this time by working too hard and recovering too quickly. Everyone was so sure that he was going to be out until at least January (who knows, maybe Daryl even purchased those 2nd round picks with this in mind).

Now imagine being McGrady. You've gone through all the turmoil of a nightmare 2008-09 season. Embarrassed yourself on the court, lost the support of the fans, lost the trust of your teammates, and had to opt for a career-threatening surgery. You've spent the past 9 months busting your butt harder than you have ever done in your life, determined to right the wrongs, return to your old glory and prove to everyone that T-Mac isn't dead after all. You've tried to do everything right; you even willingly sat through preseason after being denied even a few minutes of on-court scrimmaging. You travel with the team everywhere, you cheer on your teammates, you're genuinely excited about what they're doing on the court. And all the while you know you're ready to get out there and bang, but all you hear is "SIT DOWN THERE." Nothing more. And then meanwhile your people, your agent etc. are whispering to you that the organization is holding you out for insurance money reasons. But you can't get them to talk to you and be straight with you, for once, hard as you try.

Long and short of it is, it appears as though the organization actually "isoed" McGrady this time around, and this is what they get for it. I'm not going to say that they were entirely wrong for not bringing him on the same page with them -- GMs as a rule will not discuss business decisions or personnel moves with players and that is a principle that should always stand. But it seems that just telling McGrady to sit there and watch after all that he has been through was not the best decision, either. The Rockets have been smart to stick to their guns and not waver from their plan (and have carefully managed their official media positions to preserve that plan), but I suspect that if they had been a little more cordial or at least communicative with Tracy over this, the ensuing frustration would have been a lot less.

This is what I am thinking.

Les doesn't want to lose $10 million dollars. So they had to wait until the 41st game. But to make it look not so suspicious, they said an MRI on the 23rd. They are being vague about the time-table because they dont' want to arrouse suspicion.

Now they are in a bind because no one told T-mac that this is about insurance money. So they are trying to be coy, T-mac isn't playing along because he's just thinking, "I'm healthy, I should play" and now the Rockets have found themselves in a real pickle.

It's obvious now...and the Insurance company has them by the balls.

It's all just kinda sad. But this time, it's not T-mac's fault. It's the Rockets who screwed up.

I really doubt this is only for getting more issuance money. First, it is too obvious for the issuance company to not challenge it. Second, since it has already passed 41 games that he missed, will missing a couple more games make such a difference in terms of issuance money?
