Sure or at least have a talk with him. I know it's the principle and not the $10 gas can but ruining their car is not the answer. Think about his wife who actually works.

So your neighbor is poor and sick, thus unable to work, creating financial problems for his family, and you want to seek revenge for stealing your gas by ruining his car (no doubt worth far more than your gas he stole), thus creating more financial hardship for him?

Yeah you're a dick. This is hardly an "eye for an eye". Be a man and go confront him, or call the police. No need to make his life worse than it already is.

Put your stuff away. Be glad it was just gas. Pick your battles, and I'd say this ain't it. Did you ask him about it?

In any case, while letting this go unpunished seems counterproductive, seeking to further impoverish this guy by sabotage to avoid other more civilized measures also seems less than appropriate and may result in further trouble. Upsetting the guy next door with low character, who is home all day when you are away, doesn't seem like the best plan.

After all, when the free market lets folks slip through to misfortune, it's up to community to step up and help, right? Maybe his church could step in and show him the light, along with a little help. ;)

don't listen to people telling you not to exact your revenge.

it is your gas can. you can fill it up with whatever you want! water, gas, bleach, honey, semen... if he chooses to steal it - well too bad for him.

unless you kill him, always, always think about the retaliation

if this guy has no moral code, repeatedly asking for money and stealing... then you need to be well prepared for what he is capable of

he is home all day, you are not home all day, ergo he has home field

I wonder if there are any legal blow backs to damaging his car. Kind of like how you can't install landmines and trip wires on your property, or purposefully install "booby traps" (similar to what you the OP wants to do). I am also certain that planning this little stunt out and then sharing it with everyone on the internet does not help.

Your best course of action is to take a legal course of action. Notify the police, confront your neighbor and build a damn shed instead of leaving all your crap on the back porch. BTW, the garage is where gas and lawnmowers go. Game room? What, are you 12?

Just fill your other gas cans with water and a little bit of gasoline (enough to make them smell).

Wait for him to take the bait

    Lol.

So what? Doesn't mean that he can't fill his own gas cans up with whatever fuel he wants to. Not like anybody needs to know the difference except for him.

You know on second thought, if I were your neighbor and I got caught: I would be hailed a hero.

You are leaving containers of flamable liquid on your back porch. I don't know if it is screened or not but it sounds like a potential fire hazard. I would tell the police and other neighbors I was doing everyone a favor by taking care of my neighbor's incompetant scheme to store flamable liquids in an unsecured environment so that he can have his "game room".

I had to finally break down and get one of these a few months ago. I don't put very many miles on my truck and my gas usually lasts forever but I noticed mty tank was always half full or empty when I hadn't gone anywhere. Haven't had that problem since.

Get a new gas can, tape a note on it that says "I know it was you who stole my gas last time "whatever the guy's name is." Next time I'm calling the cops." Leave it on the back porch and make sure the note isn't visible from his backyard.

I've always been kind of a pacifist. When I was a kid, my father told me, "Never hit anyone in anger, unless you're absolutely sure you can get away with it."
