I think I know why Morey wants to move up in the draft.

Raven, i like ur well timed and straight answers, but show me another franchise who is counting on their highest paid player missing alot of games? You can build around that because of the salary cap. Wouldnt it be easier to just get rid of the guy and start adding younger players?

yeah, really. he doesn't focus on positions as much as he focuses on talent. when he drafted brooks, there was 1 pf on the roster, and 3 pg's... but brooks was the best player left so he passed on pf's like glen davis for a 4th pg, and aren't you glad he did.

of course the center position is a glaring weakness, but you don't pass on a better player for a worse player who just happens to be taller. maybe you would've drafted glen davis or josh mcroberts over aaron brooks because PF was a glaring weakness at the time, but morey knew better.

Thanks, and I agree with your points, but Les Alexander is extremely fond of the extra Chinese revenue that comes from having Yao on the team. I don't agree with re-signing Yao, but I'm not the guy who's getting rich off of him, either.

How does keeping Yao prevent us from getting young players? Morey has shown time and time again that he prefers to operate above the cap, not under it.

You act like this is an either/or situation.

You do the same thing with Shane. What players are we supposed to trade these guys for that somehow put us in a better position?

What bugs me about you Leeb is you are like the guy who always complains about what we have but never offers viable alternatives.

Morey this, Morey that,... everybody is talking like they know what he wants to do.
    No-one knows his next move.

The Rockets want to make a run at a chip now, so I think that that pick, if we get it, will be used on another NBA ready now player.

Btw, i'd rather have Favors than Cousins, but I wouldn't mind getting Cousins.

Speculation is what keeps this board moving and enjoyable. Regardless, you followed up with another 'Morey this, Morey that' statement

Morey wants to make a run at a chip now...

I think you have things mixed up because Morey moves just under the cap before the trade deadline every year to avoid the tax. I'm not saying he won't operate over it but this will be the first season that he will.

If no one knows his next move, how can you be so sure he'll trade the pick for a "NBA ready now player"....

I like Monroe too, seems like he could fill in behind Yao relatively early and eventually find his way into Adelman's high post. In any case it would be nice to see a top 8ish pick on the roster, see how Morey does at that range

He moves under the tax, not under the cap.

Because you don't build a team with the idea 1 guy making a huge amount will be out of the lineup. I don't know what you do for work, but i own big rigs and no matter what, you don't assume 1 raggedy ass truck will be down for extended time and you compensate through another one. Basically raven is saying that he's trying to get to 3 because he knows yao will be down for long period of time. Of course you would bring shane into it, but if we're developing young player, shane did very little to help that last year. Now if for the sake of good will you want to keep a declining guy making damn near 8 m or anothe rguy making max declining and injury prone, go ahead. I highly doubt the elite team are functioning this way.

You're completely ignoring my point and doing the same thing AGAIN...criticisizing without offering a specific alternative.

Our careers have nothing to do with this, there is no corelation to running a basketball team and running a traditional business. Its two completely different animals, with different motivators. Trying to compare a truck to a basketball player operating under the CBA just doesnt work.

Yao is max guy for one more year, Shane is an 8 mil guy for one more year. After that year, the market shifts back to equilibrium and thier salaries get drastically reduced. Right now, if you really want a business term, is selling low, which is a big no no.

You are so caught up in your biases, you dont see the big picture with asset management.

...or they simply want to cash in on their NY picks based on possible info re: Knicks summer moves?

I was responding to the post raven made about traing up because morey knows yao will miss time or be limited. I reponded by saying you can't run an nba franchise like that. I made reference that you can't run any business like that. You either move ahead or you start over, thats it. NO is in better shape than the rockets right now becayuse they have a great player in paul. Traditionally, he hasn't been injury prone. Through injury of paul, they discovered they have a potential all star in collison. It goes back ti what I say, you either compete for the ring or you don't. I'm all for going for it as long as its not done in a half ass effort. That calls for taking back the +25% player. That calls for being over the lux tax threshold. We've heard managment say one thing and do another.

Looking too much into this. Morey wants to move up because we have extra depth and not enough stars.

My best guess has Morey acquiring a top 5 pick and a late 1st or early 2nd rounder using the available NY picks. Rumor has it that this year.s draft will be one of the deepest in recent memory, and will be superior to next year's draft. So, why not put all your eggs in one basket?
