I think Carmelo Anthony is likely to end up with Rockets

I hope we have a better plan than to replace our (arguably) best defender in Ariza with no-defence Melo.

 

You can sit Rhyno and even DNP.

I'm not saying he doesn't have problems beyond Westbrook, but Westbrook IS one of the problems. He makes the players around him worse, always has.

Melo’s issues defensively are with his lateral quickness and getting blown by. Switching everything alleviates this to a extent, because he’s is going to have help defense ready on both sides and behind him in the paint. How does a system not help a player defensively? You draw plays on defense just like you do on offense.

 

amazing that not more than 2 years ago, we were gonna max Melo out for 4-5 years. Now many folks on this board are saying ...not even for free. Wow.

I guess for me it comes down to, can he still score at will? does his still have a versatile offensive game (low post, mid-range, 3pt), can he still get his own shot? or has he become relegated to catch and shoot?

No it doesn't. The point of switch everything defense is being able to guard all positions. Melo is far from capable of doing that. He doesn't even understand basic concepts of defense

 

Don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to say he's going to be a star, I'm saying in the right situation he can still be a productive player and the key to that is getting the hell away from Westbrook.

You play the matchup you’re given and provide help defense when available. Unfortunately, we don’t have a team full of 2 way players. Melo’s offensive impact outweighs his defensive short comings IMO. He would of been nice to have during that 0-27 stretch to get a easy midrange bucket. Regardless of what team we are playing you would always have to game plan for Melo offensively. WE NEED MORE PLAYMAKERS.
