I want my team to win every game regardless of the draft position. I'd rather my team win 70 games and get bounced in the first round then have my team get the 1st pick due to tanking.

What about all the other 10+ lottery teams that didnt win out? I wonder what Nets fans felt about Keith Van Horne? Tank again to try to get Michael Olowokandi or Raef Lafrentz?

Nope. What about the other 10+ lottery teams that got Chauncey Billups, Tracy McGrady, Antonio Daniels, Tim Thomas????

Did the Grizzlies tank again after they "only" got Thabeet so they could get John Wall? I don't think so.

I do agree its arguable, depending on prospects available. Look for further than the Rockets own 2002 tank job reward, probably tanking done right ->

DEFINITLY in 1984 and back you tank your tail off since there was no lottery. Worst record gets the worst pick.

I guess I'm more NFL minded in getting wins every game. I dont care to watch 8-10 straight throwaway games in a row. I'd rather the fate of the season rest on the bounce of the basketball instead of the roll of the lottery ball. Its that it seems franchises can fall into complacency with that approach. Especially when they're still turning a good profit.

How much tanking did the Lakers, Pistons, Celtics and Heat do to win their championships?

Exactly. What did those players do FOR the teams that drafted them? Hardly anything. They waited around for them to develop so they can sign with other teams. At least the Celtics dealt their developing picks for Kevin Garnett.

I think we can get as much talent at the 15th pick as another team gets in the 7th pick because of the quality of scouting this team produces. So, IMO, there's no point in trying to lose, or rooting for losses, because you know Morey is going to draft someone special no matter what pick we have.

This thread is stupid because the Rockets would never tank, it's a completely moot point. Does anyone really believe RA or DM or any of the players would try and lose? No need to discuss something that is pure fantasy.

now, THAT, is a extremely dangerous presumption that some of us deluded fans have..."Morey will again find the steal of the draft from another lowfirst round or second round pick".......hmmmm.....that is not going to happen. just because the spurs got on tp and one ginobili does not mean all the hills, mahinmis, hairstons,...going to turn out to be the next ginobili...

and the situation is like this: we either get the 14th pick NOT making the playoffs...or we make the playoffs as the 8th seed and get something like the 20th pick. No west team will ever be in the 15-20 range in the foreseeable future.

It is far too dangerous to have the presumption that we'll get a star no matter where we pick....after all...why would teams want to move up in the draft then??

well no team may try to tank in January but the point is this team is not good enough to make any noise in the playoffs anyways EVEN IF they do make it.....so why not empty the warrens and get Chase or Jermaine some playing time? No need to go all out trying to win games from now on. Losses are not unwelcome at this pointt

thats not going to happen mate. best hope is to try to get a top-10 pick and go for a Willie Warren and get the team some good talent......I don't want another random borderline fringe nba talent that is supposedly "underrated" that goes in the 2nd round like Jermaine Taylor...I want an impact player!!

The Celtics sucked, winning 24 games and were in the Oden/Durant sweepstakes; instead they used their hi lotto pick to land Ray Allen from Seattle in a swap, and then got the Kevin McHale "Celtic Pride" trade for Garnett.

The Heat were also awful winning only 25 games before landing Dwyane Wade

    So basically - a lot.

but I'd rather get a Tracy McGrady or Tim Thomas than one of those scrubs thats no longer in the league anymore that went after the lottery...

There's more then one way to tank. For example bad coaching, fake injury's bad roster moves, not putting you're best players court.even if there rookies. :p

In fact, even the rockets try their best, they still could miss playoffs...

Am I the only one that thinks that if this squad is able to get to the playoffs without a legit "superstar or all-star" that would do wonders for there confidence?

In terms of experience, this team is still young and I believe that confidence can only help make them better. Also, playoff experience is very valuable. The playoff intensity is a whole different ball game than the regular season, so it is valuable for these players to get to the playoffs and get that experience. I highly doubt we would get swept even if we face the Lakers' as a 1 v. 8 match-up. This team just puts too much effort and I am willing to bet that in 4 games, at least one of those games our guys are going to be hitting and we got some deadly shooters when our team is on. So I am definitely rooting for the playoffs.

Last year was an amazing experience and its always great to see your team in the playoffs competing even if deep down you know your guys probably won't win it all. But there is always that hope that we as fans have. Think back to the excitement from the Lakers series even after we lost Yao. I am pretty sure most of us thought we had a slim chance against the Lakers, but we all still cheered and rooted for them. And they gave us a memorable playoff series. So playoffs, here we come!

Exactly imo the FO is trying tank without the fans and players knowing it.I refuse to think DM and RA are as incompetent as they seem right now.
