he put in the title of this thread: "still rooting for losses" what does that mean? that means he wants the Rockets to lose many games if they can, how can you say he is doesnt want to see the rockets losing this season?

and by the logic only 8 teams has a legit chance to the NBA finals, so they other 22 teams, needs to focus on tanking, because losing in the 1st or 2nd round, its not worth it, you need to get a better draft pick to get better in the future?

so you can change to teams like sacramento, clippers, knicks, new jersey, minnesota, so you are happy seeing your team losing, and keep getting a top 5 pick because they want to win in a long term.

the problem i see is that come april we may be 3-4 games out of 8th,and more and more fans will say "we should have started tanking in january"

but then again we may be 7th-5th seed and have a exciting 1st round. you know even if the rockets lose they will play inspired ball.

john wall could end up being like eric gordon. he is undersized, and everyone was on oj mayos jock saying he was the next wade and look how that turned out.

even by adding mayo or wall its not much of a difference. this team has alot of good small and large guys, we have no middle sized guys to play the 2/3. budinger is nice ,but we REALLY need iggy or kevin martin.

    problem is lux tax.

OJ Mayo is a great player and very talented....
    Martin can't stay healthy
Iggy is somewhat overvalued on a bad team.

Truly a depressing thread. I feel sorry for "fans" who think this way.

No, not any team. It depends on if you think that team really has a shot to advance. I have no faith in this team to advance if we have a lower playoff seed. Do you? If so we must not be watching the same games.

If they win and get in I'm fine, but I'm not dissapointed if they don't. And as much as you try to knock it, it's quite arguable that a lotto pick > a 1st round exit....especially if you actually get lucky and land a top 3 pick.

Hey OP your going to be really pissed at the end of the season I guess, because I feel like we can end with about 44-48 wins. As long as I've been a fan I've never rooted for my own team to lose. Dont even call yourself a Rockets fan if thats the case...

We had a chance to get wall.as of right now nets, wolves still have better talent then we do. if there was any year to lose its this year with both of are stars out.but we chose to give role players playoff experience. this is going to be just like the gay trade.and wining that game against the wolves in 06 jvg.

I don't condone tanking. And we never had a chance to get Wall; even without Yao & McGrady, the Rockets have more talent up and down the roster than the Nets or Timberwolves do. The only way we could be as bad as them is if we blatantly sat Aaron Brooks/Carl Landry -- would you be OK with the Rockets organization purposely not playing Aaron Brooks/Carl Landry all season? How would either improve their game?

My point was merely.. if the Rockets lose.. so what? It puts us in a better position. In year's past, I would get mad about any Rockets loss. Now days? I'm OK with them - I'd rather have a lotto pick and chance at a top 3 pick than sneak into the 8th seed.

The lotto pick over the 8th seed should be looked at on a matchup basis -- i.e., does this team have enough talent to contend, even if they come out of the 8th seed? The answer is no. If they were just marred by injuries, Yao was finally healthy at the end of the year and we get the 8th seed - great, let's see what we can do. But without Yao or another big superstar, we just simply can't contend for a championship, and in that scenario I'd rather have the lotto pick.

Ask the Celtics how their tanking went when they tried getting Duncan...

It's a lottery... You lose the most games, you aren't guaranteed the #1 pick.

Besides, DM is going to make trades and moves which make this team better. He isn't going to put a bad product on the court.

If you cheer for tanking this early in the season, it's just wrong...

Do you really even enjoy watching games with this attitude?

You're telling me if the Rockets are down by one with five seconds left, you watch the game without any emotion or care whether the shot goes in or not? When the play is done you just sit their stone-faced, turn off the TV, and go to bed?

Help me understand, because that sounds really boring.

But we beat the Lakers/Spurs in their place.

Anecdotal evidence of close games against crappy teams is a bad idea.

It's funny...the way some of y'all talk their should be roughly 18 teams in the NBA tanking every season.

I mean very rarely do 6th or 7th seeds even have a chance at contending...they might as well tank too. Sixty-percent of the league in full-on tank mode! Now that's a sports product I am willing to spend my precious time watching.

I'm telling you, if their last second shot doesn't go in, I'm not pissed like I am any other year. I want them to win, I'll root for them to win, but I don't get mad if they lose because I understand that even losing is winning this year. I'm happy if they win, and indifferent if they lose; any other year, I'm pissed and not wanting to talk to anyone after a Rockets loss.. see the difference?

I enjoy watching the players develop and improve over the course of the season. I've loved AB's breakout year; I've loved Landry's breakout year. But I'm smart enough to know there is a future beyond this season, so achieving an 8th seed and being bounced won't be as beneficial for our future as a potential lottery pick would.

I think it's pretty naive for someone to call me not a fan. I'm not rooting for them to win 0 games and get John Wall; I want them to play well, but if they're just going to get bounced in the first round I'd rather take the lotto pick -- IMO that would be more beneficial to our long-term success than a 4-0 sweep. They can call me not a fan, but I think they're just being short-sighted.
