I'm as big a fan here as anyone, but maybe you could've come up with a better example than that. I feel horrible right now. I don't see us sweeping at home. I wouldn't be surprised to see Astacio lose Game 5 for us after a monumental collapse of "Big Game" Backe in 4. We had a great run, but there's no way we can win if our pitching (the only reason we're here) isn't stepping up and winning us games. I'm trying to be optimistic. I really am. Hell, in my mind, we win Game 1 if everything went like it should have. Clemens goes 6 innings, giving up 2 runs. Qualls, Wheeler, and Lidge close out the game in the 7th, 8th, and 9th. You take away the run allowed by Rodriguez, the one by Springer, and decrease Roger's runs allowed by 1, and all of a sudden, the Astros won the game 3-2. This is what we're supposed to do. Score very little, but make up for it with monster pitching. Now we can't even win when our hitters are scoring 6 for us? I don't care if it's cold outside. Everyone was cold and from what I remember, the Sox haven't been playing in the cold much lately either, seeing as how they've been a team of mediocrity for a long time. Suck it up guys. It's time to win.
I say we have them right where we want them. This is all part of Phil Garner's master plan and Lidge is in on it. Brilliant. Pretend like you've lost your ability to pitch. Brilliant tactic. The "pretend I have a broken leg but when you come close I jump up and kick your ass" trick. Again, brilliant. Down 15-30, no big deal. Down 0-2. Even better. I like our chances. Go Stros'.
I don't feel bad at all. They didn't win, we lost. Their starting pitching isn't all that it was hyped up to be and Pujols alone scares me more than that entire lineup. Roy will win Game 3 and we can take it from there. Not to mention our hitters will no doubt abuse the hell out of that short porch these next 3 games. This series is far from over. I am very worried about Lidge though.
I will believe until the bitter end. I will doubt, worry, fret and stay awake at night, but I will still believe in this team. Screw it...we'll win the next four and shove the trophy up the South Side and make them like it. Astros forever!
i saved this post that i meant to post last night in the game 2 thread but the bbs was down... ....that are gonna ride the umpires all the way to the world series title…riiiight…. i just hope the astros dont mentally break down after what happened tonight. its going to be the new disputed angels strike call story for the media. they will be showing the 'hit batter' pitch over and over until game 3. its cool though, the astros are going to sweep the sox in houston and then finish it off in game 6. thats your real team of destiny right there. remember, they lost beltran and kent to free agency. then they went 15-30 to start off the season. then they finished up the regular season with the best record in baseball after may something by clinching the WC on the last day. then beat the braves in an 18 inning thriller for the ages when we were down to 2 position players forcing clemens to make his first relief appearance in over how many years. then they lost game 5 on a 3hr by pujols. then they came back and won game 6 in st louis amid constant criticism and ridicule from every member of the national media. and now we are in our first world series down 0-2 and some of you are writing the stros off like the series is already over. this is the real team of destiny. BELIEVE.
Need I say it? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! What the f(ck happened to the Stros I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Garland, he's a dead man! Konerko, dead! Crede... DEAD! LET'S DO IT!
You know what? I STILL believe that we can pull this out. Screw history. The 'Stros came back from being down fifteen games behind .500. They gutted it out all year to get here. Each of the first three games in the WS could have gone either way.
hey, the Red Sox did it last year. it's not impossible. we just have to take advantage of our opportunities, and stay focused on one game at a time.
