I don't know about Brooks, but I wish Stuckey had slid to us in the draft. Could've used him when Rafer went down. Look at what he's doing with Chauncey out.
Its all about getting better. Rafer isnt , brooks can. Not saying he will, but at least he have the skill set to get better. His quickness and speed is un-rivaled. He can get to the rack against anyone. We all know he just needs to get stronger, but that's not that big of a deal. The ability to get better and reach ur potential. He's shown he is at least has a decent shot from mid range. Rafer is terribly streaky and we know this. Like I said earlier, he shoots 37% for 2/3 and 40% for a third. He never makes a pass off the cutter that could lead to more layups because he fear the asst/t.o. ratio. He's a bench player and that's it. I'm not saying brooks is the next coming of K.J. or anything, but he's at least has upside to get better. At this point, that's better than a stagnant rafer, head, jax, or francis to me.
I'd be all for this starting 5 next season: Brooks - speed, speed and more speed, scoring T-Mac - scoring, passing Artest - defense, all-around player, head case Scola - hustle, high-quality role player Yao - size, skill, scoring Alston, Landry, Hayes, Novak and a backup C fill out the rotation if nothing else changes. Jackson is likely a rotation player, too, until trading season. Different guys get minutes on different nights, depending on matchups (i.e., Jackson, Hayes and Novak play sparingly). You don't worry about playing BJ becasue his contract is what will make him an attractive trading option. We use his contract as part of a deal to nab an efficient outside shooter (Korver-type player) before the trade deadline. In other words, I say take the risk on Artest if there is a way to make it happen. I like Battier but, simply put, Artest can score points while he is as good, or better, of a defensive player (certainly a better 1-on-1 defender). I don't mean to undermine the intangibles Battier brings to the table, but this team doesn't have enough tangibles (in this case, scoring) to make up for Battier's shortcomings. If we get that third scorer elsewhere, then Shane should stay put. He would be the consummate role player on a team that wasn't scoring-deficient. The problem is that there is basically no way to land Artest. He will likely get $10 mill plus if he decides to leave Sacramento. We ain't got that kinda loot even if we wanted to take the risk.
I mean get over it, no B in the starting five. You really think Rick Adelman would let unexperienced kid with not yet proven skills to start in one of the NBA's best teams? Get over it... As much as I like Brooks he's too young and unexperienced and certainly he isn't Chris Paul or DWilly. He's quick, agile has good shoot but has to work and get some big games until he starts in the NBA.
Looks like the Rox were recently scouting Lester Hudson. I wonder if he is there when we pick if they do the Brooks/expirings deal for RonRon then draft Lester to take Brooks' place?? Lester Hudson is intriguing.
I have to agree. Point guard position is one of the most important position (if not the most important) in basketball. It all comes down to your point guard. I like Aaron, I think he may have a great future comming up but I wouldn'y put him in the starting five, not in the team that wants to win a championship. As we know especially in Adelman's offense pg is very important. As I said, I like Aaron but I think he still has a long way to go and first of all he needs to get expirence and than he may be a starter. I think we need veteran point guard/playmaker on this team, ala Andre Miller
By that same rationale, they might ought to throw me out there. I can get better with coaching. I haven't reached my full potential, I'm quick, and 5'9". He's not a starting pg in a league where most guys are 4-5 inches taller and out weigh him by a good bit.
There is 3 or 4 pg in the entire league that will post up brooks. So what's the big deal when its 3 of 30? The pg isn't important in adelmans offense. Go and show me a pg that was a high asst guy. U can start with porter and end with bibby. The pg is more scorer than set up man. In fact, bibby nor porter never cracked the 7 asst mark under adelman. In fact, webber and vlade was avg as many asst. A true adelman offense is the princeton which is a pass, cut, motion, like the triangle which devalues the true pg. Another poster asked why would adelman put brooks in on one of the best teams. The same reason why popovich did it on a division winning, conference finalist spurs. The same reason why rondo is starting on a 66 win boston team. Upside and the potential to get better. Even if the scenerio scares u, the rox can still back brooks up with dooling, arroyo, or even trade for jack or watson. I'd like to start brooks and then bring in a bigger veteran backup. I've always been a huge miller fan even when posters were hyping francis, but although I'm not a " he doesn't fit the system type", he is really don't fit. Adelman has never had a ball dominating pg and that's what make miller really good. If he's not setting people up a running the offense, ur cutting his legs.
i have high hopes for Brooks, but his shooting was NOT good this year. if he can learn to distribute well, i think that's his best shot at becoming a great player. he obviously has the speed and athletic ability....but he's gonna need another dimension. watching him shoot......uh......well....he's just a rookie.
One year in the NBA - a rookie - wow. Yeah, Brooks MUST suck. Glad to see that New Orleans cut David West after his 3.9ppg his rookie year. I mean, they did cut him right? After one year, you can know all there is to know, right? Doesn't West STILL suck now? I mean, he does, right? David West MUST still suck - he had a terrible first year and THAT year is what defines what he can do, right? Just like Kobe and the airballs back in the day in the playoffs? Yeah, he sucks, too. Since patience has been eliminated from our common sense, on your DVR you can fast forward through stuff now so you can turn a 30 minute show into 15. It's like real cool...and fast...and they have adderall, too. That's real cool...and then there's other stuff...and other stuff..and that's cool...and then there's other stuff...and other stuff...and other stuff that's cool. Re----------------------------------------laxxxxxxxx. One----------------------------------------year. roooooooook----- (Well, you get the point.) Peace and good night.
maybe i missed it as i quickly scrolled through this thread, but who said brooks sucks? most of what i see is constructive and honest criticism. brooks isn't ready to be a starter...doesn't mean i'm not pulling for him.
