I say Carlisle should now be our first choice with Brown a close second!

I don't really like his tone of face. Something smarmy about him.

    Just a rhetorical question...

Since Carlisle was a teammate of Ralph Sampson's at UVA, would he bring in Ralph to work with Yao? I doubt it but it's worth noting their UVA connection.

I absolutely love the chance to get Rick. He is the second best coach in the league. And younger. He won when Larry left Indy.

All season I said get Larry - I would never have expected the chance to get a rising star like Rick. I absolutely prefer him to all other options - including Brown.

This is one of the best young minds in the league.

I also think Carlisle is the best coach for us. Look at his track record in running offenses. He was limited in Detroit, but I still thought their offense looked 98382 times better than Houston's! They may have played slow down ball, but they took smart shots, moved the ball, and had everyone on the same page. This is something Rudy couldn't do.

And he seems to run a tight ship and be strict with his players. That's something we need also.

    Mike Dunleavy and Tim Allen.
    Seperated at birth.

Carlisle or Silas if that's what's left wouldn't be our worst choices.

HST gets left holding the bag again.
Maybe it's not all bad, only time will tell.

I don't believe Brown really wanted to be here. IMO it may have been an oppurtunity to bolster his auction/selling of himself.

If the Les' love of Brown was as it was sold to the public then Brown indeed did not pursue us as much as Les pursued him.

Nothing would have stopped Les and the Rockets from announcing Brown as the next coach for the Rockets other then Brown himself which tells me there was a storewide sale going on and Brown wasn't done shopping.

Rick Carlisle is the best available currently.

Not everyone likes our own Mike Dunleavy.

    Larry Brown - Detroit Pistons.
Jeff Van Gundy - Cleveland Cavaliers
    Mike Dunleavy - Atlanta Hawks
Mike Fratello - New Orleans Hornets
    Paul Silas - Philadelphia 76ers
    Eddie Jordan? - Toronto Raptors
    Nobody - Washington Wizards
Dennis Johnson - Los Angeles Clippers
    Jeff Bzdelik - Denver Nuggets

    HOUSTON ROCKETS- RICK CARLISLE!

I'm a Dunleavy fan. I think he would be great for us. He did good things with the Jail Blazers - one of the few teams with more nut cases than us! He also seems to know how to deal with rampant egos.

I'd also be happy if we got Carlisle to coach us. He has knowledge, and will put some discipline into a team sorely lacking in any. He might even get our guards to play some D! :)

If Mike Dunleavy is so great, then why isn't he employed as an NBA coach in the past few years?

Maybe the owners still remember the unbelievable choke job his Blazers did in the semi finals against the Lakers.

There weren't that many openings in the last 2 to 3 yrs.. The ones that were open really stunk. Kind of a step backwards careerwise.

Dunleavy did the right thing by waiting for the right openings.

You could say the same about pretty much all the other "top" western conference coaches the previous 3 years.

He had been approached by a few clubs, but declined for a couple of reasons. First he didn't like the opportunity those clubs presented. Second he was/is still being paid by the Jail Blazers. Like JVG, his "contract" has just expired (i think) so he can talk to teams again without any financial "penalty".

He's being paid a fortune to be a bum, doing the odd bit of stuff on TV while his name remains in circulation for coaching jobs... I'd like to be in that sitch too!

If we don't make major changes to the roster, this squad won't have trouble scoring REGARDLESS of coach or system.

I mean, common. Yao Ming, Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley and Mo Taylor are all proven scorers.

Rip Hamilton is the best scorer in Detroit. Mobley compares favourably to Rip Hamilton, and Francis beats the pants off Chauncey Billups.

    Still, I don't want Carlisle.

I want this team to play beautiful basketball. Run n Gun is not beautiful. Beautiful is when you fine tune the players and the system to achieve several streaks of seeing your team click on all cylinders.

    Continuity.

    Larry Brown.

All this talk about getting Carlisle, but Rick initially hinted that he wouldn't coach at all.

What are the chances of getting him?

Is there some reason we would want him to bring Ralph in?

If its really true that we've lost brown then Carlisle and Dunleavy have to be the guys, if Carlisle wants to stay in coaching.

Carlisle commented that he wasn't sure he'd coach again or go back to TV. It may have been too soon for him to have formulated a plan. Billups wasn't exactly complimentary in regards to his former coach on Saturday which raises the question is Carlisle a hard ass (good) or does he have issues off the court (bad). The other knock i've heard was his ability with young players but he's only had a couple years to do that as a head coach so thats hard to judge.

Dunleavy appears to be completely juiced about the idea of coaching here. He's been around a lot of good - great players and showed the ability to gameplan for the big man to score in the paint with Sabonis in Portland.

I know this: Dumars is a slick slick b*stard and I respect that. He pulled a real coup here if Brown goes there way. I'd rather have a younger coach who is looking to stick around long term than an old man at the end of his career anyway.
