I forgot about my parents Sony in a wooden box (what was up with wooden boxes?). It had a remote and only 13 channels. You had to open the control panel and spin the dial to manually tune each channel. Technically all 13 channels could be the same station...how sad! :(

I just remembered that the Curtis Mathis TV was made for Houston. It had specific buttons for channels 26 and 39 (there was no channel 20 back then)...

when we moved out of Houston for a few years, we had to reprogram those channels as Smokey described.

    Talk about shortsighted technology!

I bet none of you guys had to use a pair of pliers to change channels on your TV.

Speaking of the 3 O'Clock Movie...

Anybody remember 'Godzilla Week?' We used to trample each other to get a good seat in front on the TV to see 'Godzilla v. Mothra' or 'Godzilla v. King Kong.'

Used to start my old college car with a pair of pliers. (and it really was my car) but that's a different story altogether.

    How does tin foil work?

When I little, I thought tin foil would help me receive more stations. It did not.

I remember about half of that stuff. I haven't been to Astroworld in about a decade. I now see that I'm not missing anything. All of my old favs (except XLR8) are gone. I can imagine had I taken wifey this summer..."Excuse me...where is the Sky Screamer?"

"uhhh....sir...you haven't been here in a while, have ya?"

    DOH!!!!!!!!

    sky screamer is gone? no!!!

and after looking at that page, i suddenly realized where the musical group "Dexter Freebish" got their name.

It has been bugging me for a long while as to the origin of that name. I knew I had heard it before, its a freakin' ride at Astroworld!

Anyone remember why the Swamp Buggy Ride only lasted one year (1973-1974)?

I do too. How bout the barrel of fun (where the floor droped out and you stuck to the wall) and the wacky shack (where the pool balls rolled up hill)?

And the alpine slegh ride that was replaced to make room for batman.

Didn't the Alpine Sleigh Ride burn down after some guy flicked his cigarette at the abominable snow man?

holy crap! garbage pail kids? I used to have hundreds and hundreds of those cards. I would trade them with others in elementary school!

I wish I knew whatever happened to those. Probably trashed or sold in a garage sale along with my Transformers and He-men figures

I don't know about that but... it had that great echo tunnel where every one screamed obsinities (sic) then heard them replayed in the next tunnel
    :)
