I grew up in the mid to late 80's, right before the big cable TV boom. Who in here was their dad's remote control??

"Get up and change the channel"
    "Ok, change the channel again"
    "This sucks, change it again"
"OK, put it back on the FIRST channel"

Hell, sometimes I didn't even bother going back to the couch. :)

Anybody remember those old, brown cable boxes with the sliders? I used to love annoying my parents by sliding that thing back and forth really fast...

Saturdays were the best when I was a kid. Wake up at 7:00, fix a huge bowl of frosted flakes. Solid cartoons until Noon, then Soul Train, then the afternoon Kung Fu movie (I think they had a five movie rotation going). Then, WWF Saturday Night Main Event! Saturday Morning TV pretty much sucks ass now since Disney bought out ABC. Hell, now they show the news on Saturday morning...NEWS on Saturday morning? Screw that, I don't need to know about trouble in the Middle East while watching The Smurfs...

...and when the President came on, forget about watching anything but Nova on PBS...

I've never had a kid call me "sir" though, so I don't feel quite that old....yet...

And people wonder why kids aren't really kids anymore but rather try to behave like small adults. It's because we don't give them a chance to be kids. Our parents' generation had Howdy Doody...we had the Smurfs (and all the other cartoons)...today they have the NEWS!!!!!!! [IMG]

This is how I discovered that I am completely evil. I once called one of my little cousins (knowing his family phones weren't within sight of their TV ... old days, no cordless phones), spoke in a lower register, and told him he was on "TV KID POW!" ...
"Wait," he said. "I can't see the TV!" :(
"Get ready! You've got to start now!"

So he sat there for two minutes yelling "POW!" into the phone over and over, while I hurt myself trying not to laugh. Then I told him he had a score of zero, but we appreciated him playing.

I've never told him the truth.

Also, criminy, Daro! How can you post pictures of "toys" like that. Wanna get this thread locked or something? ;)

RIGHT ON!!! I remember being able to slide that dial to the very end and position it right in the middle of two channels and being able to pick up scrambled p*rn. Ahhhhh...the memories of pre-adolescence.

When I lived in New Jersey, they had something similar to TV Kid POW!!! called PIX (naturally, the caller said PIX to have the alien ship shoot).

I also remember the Ch. 13 3 o'clock Million Dollar Movie - their Godzilla week was a highlight of my young life.

The original. Baby Plaz was a hack.

Remember "Ryan's Hope"? When I was a kid I would stay home by myself during the summer and got hooked on this freaking soap opera.

I loved that song. One of the first Music Videos!

I remember going to the bar to watch music videos before M-TV.

Channel 26, KDOG-TV first went on the air August 15, 1971. It changed call letters circa 1977.

For those old enough to remember, check out the film "Apollo 13." They have a KHTV-39 news van with the "classic" (late-60's, early-70's) logo in front of the Lovell's house.

When FOX first started up with shows like Tracey Ullman and Duet, they were on for an hour a night and had somewhere between 8 and 12 affiliates. Houston was one of the original affiliates if I remember correctly.

What happened to afternoon re-runs ? We used to get Batman, Hogan's Heroes, MC Hale's Navy, The Munsters, Addams Family, etc. Now what is it?

I think I remember watching the Monkees on 39. And HR Puffenstuff. Boy howdy, that was a wierd one.
