when I said overhyped I meant that the game was overrated, which sort of go hand in hand. There are better games out there that offer more than halo does. The thing is, Halo got 2 things right, 1. Have a main character many guys like and have a good, "cool" story 2. Make a easy to pick up multiplayer that is straight forward. Halo will always have #2 as long as it stays popular, heck, there is no reason why even after the story finishes they can't just release multi-player only HALOs with new maps and a few new weapons.
yeah i was thinking about that one, though i don't feel the controls were great, it was just a heck of a lot of fun with a bunch of friends. it didn't make me want to get more fps' though. i remember after playing halo, i would rent any first-person shooter that came out for xbox hoping to get a similar fix.
I'm in the same boat. Mostly PC shooters for a long time; didn't really get into Goldeneye so Halo was the first console shooter that I was ever actually impressed with. That's the big thing with Halo; it helped teach the console world how to actually do the genre on something other than a PC. People that say Halo is 'overrated' don't quite understand it's appeal. Yeah, it's a FPS. There are lots of those. But Halo gets what it does for some important reasons: great multiplayer content, lots of polish, and most importantly it flat out nails the controls. It 'feels' right; often a lot better than 90% of the console shooters out there.
