Are they really not going to have enough copies distributed on opening day to where you have to pre-order? It's just a damn disc in a piece of plastic. There better not be a shortage.
Full time, I manage the servers at a community college. I started writing professionally a few months ago, but that doesn't pay the bills. I am hoping to change that.
I am saying preorder so that you don't have to worry about that in the first place. Otherwise, you will pick it up on launch day and endure massive lines of Halo geeks.
I would only think Halo 2 could qualify as being overhyped (if any were). I might be wrong, but I don't think Halo 1 was really overhyped, at least during the months prior to launch. In fact, I think it had a really poor E3 showing prior to its release. Overrated maybe, but not overhyped. I personally think Halo 3 is being somewhat overhyped, but only because I don't really think any single game deserves that amount of hype (IOW, nothing against the game itself). Yeah, as andymoon said, it probably wouldn't hurt to get a preorder just to be on the safe side. I'd imagine that Microsoft and retailers may be more likely to overestimate demand for Halo 3 than they do for other games (well...unless overestimating leaves them with an unobtainable target), but you never know how things will really go on launch day. Even if there is a lot of unsold stock across the nation, it may turn out that all the stores in your area are sold out. I remember worrying that GTA:SA would be sold out on launch day, but I didn't have any problems getting a copy when it released (plenty of copies available mid-day, no lines IIRC, somewhat rural area, etc.). May not be a good example since GTA sells a little different than most other games though (it has crazy legs IIRC).
if they sent you an email, then u can play it. i really like it, its very fast paced and runs like butter. i like that you can customize classes and earn extra 'perks'. halo3 has some competition.
Every time I buy something at Gamestop, the guy tells me to pre-order for a certain game because it will be impossible to get your hands on it. I never fall for the pre-order business...and every time a highly anticipated game comes out, I go to the store on launch day and ask if they have available copies. The response: "Sure, we have plenty of copies". That being said, I pre-ordered Halo 3 already.
The only problem with Halo 2 was the single player campaign ended too quickly (but then again, if it had wrapped up we'd have no halo 3).Aside from that, in every facet, it was a vast improvement over Halo 1 - as it should have been. Otherwise, the success of the game pretty much speaks for itself - i mean it still has several hundred thousand online games per day on a last-gen console, 3 years after release and is far and away the most popular game in the history of xbox live. That is pretty good for a console game.
FWIW, I wasn't trying to downplay Halo 2 in that post. I was just trying to point out how little hype Halo 1 got, and that if you wanted to make an argument that a (released) Halo game was overhyped, Halo 2 would be the only game you could really do that for. Reading it back now, it sounds like I was trying to make it seem obvious that the game was overhyped, which isn't exactly what I intended (might be my person opinion, but that's not really important).
I'm a huge fan of co-op play for the story missions. I am pumped on the added ability that Halo 3 will have to play online, four player co-op missions.
I preordered it from Best Buy...but only because their website had a glitch that let me get 3 of the 1600 point marketplace cards for $15 total for a while
Are you crazy? There will not be a shortage of this game. Maybe the Legendary Edition, but Bungie even said on their podcast that they don't anticipate the game selling out in it's regular form. Now if you want to get the $130.00 Legendary Edition, I would either pre-order or get to a store at midnight to get it. Walmart is even going to dedicate checkout lanes only for Halo 3 on the 25th to get people out of there faster. It's kind of like Madden every year when they say at EB, "You better pre-order it so you will get one!" BS, totaly BS when they have 80 extra copies on day one.
tinman actually has something intelligent to say! CoD4 MP is freakin awesome, I love the beta. definitely more fun than I've had with either Halo MP might be because I prefer the real world setting in general though, dunno. I still have Halo 3 on preorder first day
