What is this crap? "Sneaky?" That is ridiculous, and slanderous, and its damn ungrateful to talk about Hakeem OR Drexler like that. Maybe being in Tennessee kept you removed from the things they did for the city. Drexler sided with Hakeem when Barkley was causing trouble about sharing the ball. As I recall he said one of them had rings and Finals MVP and one of them didn't, so it was an easy call. Makes sense to me. I understand that some of you loud mouths respect Barkley's loud mouth, but Clyde was always the consumate professional, and you should respect THAT more than Barkley's big ass. Crispee, I'm sure the moment just caught you up, and that could happen to anyone. But did you really expect Clyde to turn around and say "Hey Crispee, you're damn right! That ol Oscar looks like my double! And that's a damn fine observation on your part! And thanks for calling me out on the UH thing. I made a mistake which I'm sure you could never do, so please forgive me and don't think I'm a quitter." His response might have been different if you had said "Hey Clyde, I love your folks BBQ place." OR "Hey I just wanted to thank you for the great moments you've given the city of Houston at both UH and for the Rockets."
HeyPartner, Leave the Reactionsist stuff to the BBS', where thats all you ever do!! Clyde is all Class, always was as a Player and still is as a person, so the coaching stint didn't go to well, I'm sure there are plenty of times in your life you've done something that wasn't a complete success (aside from the continued embarassment you make of yourself here). Everything about your run in with Clyde smells of your continued "Brat" behaviour. Your question was completely childish and what sort of answer did you expect???? The reason everyone finds your comments offensive are because, for everyone here who posts you are well known as a reactionary. Not matter the situation you have a tendency to blow things way out of proportion and attack people, in this case Classy Clyde. You seem informed and very intelligent most of the time. You have an abundance of hoops info and knowledge and occasionally this result in a decent contribution to the BBS. But time and time again all you do is the same thing, agression! I can only react this way cause your post history says you just let rip with you CC.net BBS reactionary fly off the handle crap on most of us here all the time. Grow up Gitface Smeg
HS: You don't think it was ungrateful for Olajuwon to want close to the same contract he had a year ago in Houston, especially considering he couldn't stay healthy for the last 3 years? Or better yet, don't you think it was ungrateful for Olajuwon to say that the best thing that the Rockets could have done was to keep their present team together, including him when he knew all along he wasn't coming back?? To me, being sneaky is being deceitful. Maybe you think it means something else, I don't know. I understand that me saying this might seem like blasphemy, but I am a fan of the Houston Rockets team not of Hakeem Olajuwon, and I lost all respect for him by the way he handled things this past offseason. Francis 4 Prez: I'm not doubting you on Barkley saying this, but I don't think that Barkley was playing with the Rockets when Hakeem showed his true colors. I'm sure that Olajuwon did a great job in having Barkley believe in the "humble" image that he got many others to believe in. Since CB had already retired, then he was right. Olajuwon did a good job, being the sneaky person that he is, in "selling" to Barkley that he was honorable. Now that Barkley is out of basketball, do you honestly think that he cares about anyone in the NBA other than Jordan? I doubt he does.
big whoop. I really don't see what the big deal is. So he made a little joke at Drex's expense. And? I mean yeah, cpee is a gitface, but not because of that! To tell you the truth Heyp, I thought the story was a little anti-climactic. Apparently mostly everyone else disagrees with me. Oh well, can't please anybody.
LOL @ crispee. Thats the funniest thing I have heard all day. I wouldnt have the guts to say that to him! hahah
You guys are missing the point. The purpose of this story is not to talk about Clyde. It is to promote the devilpartner. It is called ego stroking, in the lines of a "I did something so cool to a known figure that I will now tell everyone just how cool it was" kind of thing. Anyone giving praise or admonishing is only feeding hp's deluded self. And CK was right, it could have been a much cooler story. But we are stuck within hp's limitations.
Chaos Theory: A butterfly flaps its wings in the Amazon, which causes a storm in the United States. Crispee Theory: Crispee flaps his gums at Clyde Drexler, which causes a storm in Clutchcity. Clutchcity Unified Theory: Thread INfluence by Olajuwon (CUTTINO): Any new thread tends towards Olajuwon, regardless of the initial topic. I am working furiously on other theories: MOOCH Theory WINK Theory WALTSUCKS Theory QUITTEN Theory: I think I'm gonna give up on this one. It's based on turning lead into gold rings, but instead turns gold rings to s**t, and costs $16,000,000.
OK...so who was supposed to tell me about this <b>Mack</b>. F!ck...he registered the same day as me. He made me look like an unUnified fool! Dammit...heads are gonna roll...starting with jamcracker, my Search Engine Director! I can't be made a fool like this. I am the #1 poster!
exactly rimbaud. anyway crispee what happened after that? did you just turn your back and walk away? oh and did you whisper or did he actually hear you? what was his reaction? maybe clyde lectured crispee about courtesy and manners infront of the kids and he's leaving that out of the story. manny ramirez, i'm so much younger than you but i'm no where as naive as to believe hakeem olajuwon would 100% positive sign with the rockets just becos he said something about keeping the team together. and most players that do say something about 'keeping the team together' end up getting traded anyway. ironic like that. did you breathe a sigh of relief when he said that? "well that takes care of the center position". and furthermore do you actually believe he knew he was gonna sign with another team when he said it? please, you're just trying to make your complaint against hakeem more justifiable. and you're failing. "To me, being sneaky is being deceitful. Maybe you think it means something else, I don't know. I understand that me saying this might seem like blasphemy, but I am a fan of the Houston Rockets team not of Hakeem Olajuwon, and I lost all respect for him by the way he handled things this past offseason. " blah blah blah this is just meaningless trash talk. i like your posts better (than anyone else ) when you start the threads. please start a new thread
Oh yeah! That's right. EVERYBODY LISTEN UP!!!!! HERE'S A RESPECTABLE STORY. I'm like directly next to Davis Stern's entourage, he's on seat away. It's game 3 of the finals against the Magic and Willow Bay sits down next to me to get a minute in with David Stern. It's the fourth quarter and Stern and his people are about to jet (he leaves early to avoid the frenzy). Willow Bay: Mr. Stern, how are you enjoying the NBA finals? David Stern: This is a great series, we're here to see if the Magic can catch up to the Rockets. Willow Bay: Are you rooting for one team in particular? David Stern: Well, I don't want to pick sides, these are two great teams. Fromobile: He can't say stuff like that. (David Stern and Willow look at me, smile and nod) Fromobile cont. (to Willow): I watch Inside Stuff every Saturday in Colorado, you never have the Rockets on. Tons about the Majic though. (David Stern smiles and nods fakely) Willow Bay: Well wait till this Saturday, they're going to be on a lot. (turns back to Stern and begins new sentence) Fromobile: Nah, no! I'm talking about the regular season. It took them getting to the finals to get on your show? The Magic were on all the time... Stern chuckles. (very fake) Willow: (something I can't remember what. I'm noticing how David Stern has started talking with someone else on his other side. Willow tries to get a couple more things in, but she doesn't get his undivided attention any more. Willow leaves.) Stern leaves with entourage, leaving behind this weird TV console/telephone/communication device that he had with him, the Rockets win and my father promtly starts playing with the device. He puts on the headphones and presses the buttons, and finally calls CBrownFanClub's answering machine with it's phone and leaves a message. Then he calls his wife. I see security guards coming, so I tear the headphones off of him and push him back to his seat. He gets mad at me, but then stops griping when he sees the security guards yelling at the dude in the row behind us who barely touched the damn thing.
OK...fromobile is priceless. Maybe I just need to make another animation of fromobile like the "<a href="http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4710">Jennas Revenge</a>" thread where Jenna kicks his ass..but this time, "fromobiles Revenge" is kicking Sterns ass. and that earlier "[Drexler] is above normal human laws of interaction," is definitely going to make it hard for me to sleep tonight...in my 2002 scrapbook. gotta love the ROCKETS FORUM. no Gordita's here!
fba, I'm sorry that you don't see my side with Olajuwon, but I didn't really expect a lot of people to see it my way. Loyalty is a very important thing to me, and it will still take some time for me to completely get over Olajuwon's behavior. That is not making something up to defned my viewpoint..that's just the way I feel about it. Heck, I started liking the Rockets because of the Dream and he will always be considered the greatest Rocket ever. However, I have a problem with people who are two-faced & I feel that Hakeem has done this. I have had a tough time of late in thinking of a new thread in the Rockets forum. However, since you asked for it, I will try to come up with something meaningful, but it will probably come later in the day maybe even after the game tonight.
Yep, forgot about our father calling me from David Sterns phone, that was funny. Knew there was a good ending to that. cbfc
You know that weird something-isn't-quite-right feeling you can get when you meet a famous person in person? Willow bay, case in point. I had a little crush on her from my lonely apartment in Colorado...she would come off as so sweet and dumb...in person though.... she felt evil. Looked evil. I swear I would wake up every Saturday morning to watch, but not after that.
You should have called her sugar toots and slapped her on the ass and spoke to Stern in that collective 'we' male voice. She would have played along.
Clyde is known for measuring his words....maybe for good reason. Maybe for a damn good reason. What if the Clyde we all know and love is not the classy and respected Dr. Drexler he purports himself to be?...but the evil Mr. Clyde who reacts a whole, whole lot worse than an aforementioned poster.....Sometimes actions speak louder than words and sometimes words speak louder than actions....I as some (or perhaps most) of you have seen the darker side of Mr. Clyde.....I guess it is to Dr. Drexler's credit that Mr. Clyde has not been seen as much as he has in the past.
<b>Crisco,</b> Yeah, it is anticlimatic when written down. All he did was make eye contact and turned to step down to the floor. I meant to title this thread "I <b>think</b> I pissed off Clyde Drexler. Who, me?" implying more accidental, playful jabbing, and his reaction. By leaving out the "think," it looks more malicious as DREAMer says. Anyhow, the question just came to me, and I was still in fishing-for-personality mode. You know, some pros can laugh at themselves. I don't know what he thought, but he didn't smile...hence, the title of the thread. So why the thread then if he didn't saying anything other that glare at me briefly. Hey, sometimes you want to see if others share your idea of humor...and want to know what they think about the question that popped into my head with 5 more steps to glide with Clyde. Missed opportunity, Thanos? Yeah maybe, not in my mind, though...I'm making good mileage on it with bbs friends and with other fiends. Before anyone else comes in to teach me a lesson about manners and tries to say toying with a superstar "fishing-for-personality" is no excuse for being a "punk," save it. Uh, I know. If you really feel compelled like SmeggySmeg to take it a step further and teach me a lesson about being a good BBS citizen or I believe in this "mighty crispee" stuff or "holier than thou," and you want to stop me or sumpin, how about just saying you don't like the thread, or me in general instead, and leave the trite, overread psychoanal-lytical admonishments for spewing at evil soap opera characters...because that is about what it amounts to. <b>Bob*,</b> Yeah...being a Rice fan at the time, I can't say that I know what Larry looked like other than how tall he is. I actually thought it was a business man at first...a host for Clyde...until I saw him stand up. <b>DREAMer,</b> Good memory! But you are a little off about me trying to annoy celebreties to get a story to remember like your friend. That is my Joey Ramone story about getting flipped out of the pit onto the stage to be sprawled right at his feet. I suspected that he was tired of all the stage diving and even being at a lousy kicker bar in Houston, so he reared back and kicked me in the side. But that wasn't me trying to annoy. I got tossed up on the stage. I actually didn't want to do any stage diving, because Joey is Joey! (as fromobile would say), and he didn't look happy with the venue. In that situation though, you have to make the most of it, so I laid there for a sec to catch his eyes right before he kicked...all along he was still singing and towering over his mic with that long hair draped in front of his face. It was a perfect Joey moment...exactly what I expected from him....showing some Joey personality! How I approach celebrities is to try not to do anything typical. I stopped the autograph thing at age 10 and don't bother with the standard question; I'd rather just say hi, and that's it. Like, why say "Hey Clyde, what do you think of Stevie Franchise," and I'm not much for the "Thanks for all the memories" with superstars who get praised all the time. I'd rather leave them to their own thoughts. But when something inspires you or there is unusual context...maybe actually normal everyday context that allows them to be normal with another person, then I like to make contact. I like to see their personality, or how they react in everyday situations. With Clyde, Oscar Torres had played pretty much the whole 4th quarter and I thought maybe he'd say something to me if I first mentioned how Oscar looks like Clyde...you know, the talk about them angle. Silly me, but maybe he had given Oscar a closer look since he plays and looks like him. And if he didn't know Oscar, maybe he'd go up after the game and meet his Venezuelen protege (even though Oscar claims to play more like Herrera). I really wanted to hear him say something about Oscar. Oh well. So, anyhow, when I struck out with that...I'm thinking...like Achebe assumed, that I was intent on getting some personality out of the celebrity. Nothing personal, but to see how he reacts to a playful jab, from a fan who wasn't acting like a groupie and knew enough about the Rockets to know Oscar played at crunch time and looks like Clyde. Anyhow, I got some personality of a Clyde, in a way. He treated me as a punk and showed me how "normal human laws of interaction" don't work with him, just as fromobile said. lol! I don't think he was insulted, even if he did consider it an insult or not. <b>TheFreak</b> Speaking of grabbing some personality out of someone...man, you are the stoic one...behind an impenetrable shield of logical absolutes and syllogisms. What? Am I going to have to come to Austin and go bowling with y'all just to see you laugh. Give me a bone! How about telling me which forum you have the most fun. <b>CBFC</b> Your dialogue posts always make me laugh myself silly...an inspiration of creativity. <b>fromobile</b> I have a great Tommy Lasorda and Vin Scully story, too. I got them to call my little sister on her birthday. That was the birthday after I got Steve Garvey to give her a surprise birthday kiss. Only later do we find out the Steve Garvey probably would have kissed her on his own, anyhow. Another one is getting Dusty Baker to throw me a ball...but not that same day. Try asking him to do it 2 days in advance, so you can surprise your friend in the bleachers and bet them a beer you could get Dusty to throw you one. Man, he nailed me perfect from easily 100 ft away. I missed a Rudy opportunity earlier this summer, when Rice was in limbo. But, I just can't seem to bring myself to interrupt Rudy, like those groupies, Davo, 3pointer and RocketsPimp did at Kenneally's after the Barkley/cc.net game. One of these days I'll walk up to him to say something about his early handling of Mobley (or something basketball-ish), but I still live for that elusive Barkley moment. Damn, I was at Kenneally's the day before his infamous 3 hour heart-to-heart with Jim Boylen about the younger generation player "with cell phones and CDs in the lockerroom."
