I lost a lot of respect for Clyde immediately after his last game in 1998, game 5 in Utah. Any player, I don't care who you are, should be dissed for laughing and smiling after a loss like that...especially when you would've won the series had the guy you hated so much not torn his arm off.

TheFreak, and I'm saying "class" has nothing to do with this.

It was a professional insult...not personal. And you're right, he didn't "need" it. But let's not categorize a comment while walking with a man as personal or heckling, either. Besides, he made us all sit through a "classless" 40 minute monologue at halftime (uh...halftime is only 14 minutes), when we retired his number, and the team was fined like $20,000 for that.

Also, I figured out who he was sitting with. Kiki Vandeweghe!! He was there not as a fan, but as the Nuggets "special assistant to the GM." He was there working as a Nuggets employee. Now I am glad I made him think about his professional ability to coach or teach basketball. lol!

oooh...that's so insulting and belittling. No, it was a comment about his professionalism as a coach, because he wouldn't give me the time of day when asking some quick fan questions about the new kid Oscar Torres. grrr! Now I know one reason why (aside from simply dismissing a punk like me), because he was scouting us.

He wasn't insulting Clyde, just having a little fun with him. Some people take jokes a little better than others. Oh well, now Crispee knows to stick with what works, like:

"Hey Clyde, just how did you see your teamates when looking at the floor while dribbling!"

    or

"Hey Clyde, most players go with the shaved head look BEFORE they start balding!"

Clyde's a big girl. If she can dish it, she sure as hell should be able to receive it.

Besides, Clyde's handling of the UofH situation seems to warrant a big fat label of being a quitter, imo. Didn't he just say delightful things about his players at UofH??? Then he exited stage left for some familial responsibilities?? Delightful. I guess that's why he travelled w/ the team, n'est-ce pas? He had some 'familial responsibilties' that are hard to take care of while working in Denver, ehhh? So which is it Clyde... you'll somehow see your team more now while working in the NBA (UofH sucked, really... he didn't have to leave home for much conference play), did your players suck, or do you suck?

Achebe, actually, he said last night that he only spends about 3 or 4 days per month in Denver, doing most of his work from Houston...He still has Drexler's BBQ to run!

You know that if he worked in Denver, his true responsibilities as title of "Special Assistant to the GM" would be revealed...

"Hey Clyde, where is my coffee?!?!"

"Dammit, Drexler, I wanted those copies on legal sized paper, not letter!"

"Hey Clyde, why don't you glide over to the doughnut shop and get me a couple of bear claws...And I better get all my change back this time!!"

Oh, I get it...a "professional" insult.

    How professional of you.

Some of you deserve to be Clipper fans.

    LOL! :D

Thanks for the info, btw... I'm nearly over my lack of respect for Clyde, but I thought that I'd pile on while I still remembered what the words were... :)

If Charles could take Shaq out the night of the fight, I'm sure that those guys barbs at each other are nothing more serious than what we say to each other on a daily basis.

Can't believe I'm actually siding with TheFreak on any subject, but he is sooooo right this time around.

Who the heck do you think you are to talk to Clyde Drexler like that, crispee?

The man brought Houston a second championship and he certainly has done a lot more for the city and team than you have with your regular game analysys (as accurate as they may be).

I'm sure right now Drexle is having nightmares remembering that the high and mighty crispee of the clutch bbs has "pissed him off". Yeah, right.

You may like him or not, you may care more about Barkley or not (yeah, I like Barkley too) but Clyde sure as hell deserves your respect.

    Classless indeed.

Geez. At least you are as full of yourself in real life as you seem to be here...:D

I hate geeks who are brave only when they are in the security of their own homes.

    what a wasted opportunity.

I'm a little surprised that HeyPee did this, but I can't say that I'm completely surprised. Hell, I applaud him for doing this because it shows that he's got big balls (although others may argue that it shows other things). I know I couldn't have done that if I had that opportunity.

I used to like Drexler alot, but when I heard about his feud with Barkley and saw how he bailed on the University of Houston (his own alma mater), I started losing respect for him. He is alot like Olajuwon in that he tries to project this "holier-than-thou" image and that someone like crispee ought to burn in hell for doing what he did.

However, the truth is that Drexler is like Olajuwon in that he is sneaky. He's the type of person that you couldn't trust if your life depended on it. It's sad for me to realize that about Clyde, but I guess his ego makes him like that.

At least with Barkley, he'll tell you like it is and not pull any punches. You may not agree with him or even like him, but you have to respect the fact that he is, or seems to be, a straight shooter. Something that you cannot say about Drexler or Olajuwon.

I think you guys are overreacting. The barb about the Cougars was funny, in a situation in which Drexler sounds as if he wasn't treating heyp as a peer... nor was he paying any respect to the young guy Torres (don't say Drexler doesn't know enough about Torres to make a comment, unless you want to insinuate that he does this job as poorly as his last two, i.e. game 5 as rm95 reminded us).

Drexler could have easily said "yeah I hear that guy is coming along. Houston's lucky to have him" and he would have converted crispee.

    Memo to Crispee,

As an outside relative of Clyde's family by marriage, I would suggest the KISS method. Dumb questions will get you dissed immediately. Ask Clyde what he's doing 1st and then proceed to his thoughts on Torres. Don't ask closed ended one word questions. Your slipping.

Ah man...that's a misread, I think. I didn't mean that I'm a professional with an insult, merely saying the insult was not personal or heckling...it was a jab at the professional side of Drexler.

this is fun. I've got more, but I'm on the run today, TheFreak. more later. What better fun than a juicy Rockets Forum thread...you know that Gordita talk just doesn't compare! And I've got some for you too Thanos. I can't leave you out.

ouch! You know though, TheFreak...one of these days you'll stop using the third person "you" and just come straight with your jabs.

    Hehe.

    I can hardly wait.

You amuse me crispee. A lot. Keep it up. :p

Just don't dissapoint me with that usual crap about how you had the right to say what's on your mind as the guy is not a deity or anything like that and a america is a free country and all.

    I expect better of you.

The Glide is the Glide. I don't care if he tried to lead his own organized religious cult based around him, he is still the Glide, and commands respect. He is above normal human laws of interaction.

Ex presidents? BAH!!! Just watch out for the secret service.

You thought Kiki Vandeweghe was Larry Micheaux? A trip to the optometrist is in order for you.

Insulting Clyde was uncalled for. After sobering up, how did you honestly feel about it? Do you regret it?

On the other hand, if you were to walk down to Jose Lima's floor seats and tell him he sucks, then would you be doing something worth talking about.

    crispee,

Aren't you the guy who purposefully tries to annoy famous people to get a "special" memory of them? Like the time someone kicked you in the head or something like that?

If so, and this was in that vein, then I don't mind it so much. I have a friend who does similar stuff. It's funny, if you're doing it for fun, and not to be malicious.

It's just that I respect Clyde. He was a supra-professional on the court his entire career. Hey, not everyone is gonna like everyone else. He didn't like Barkely, oh well. I didn't like a lot about Barkley either. He was a likeable character, unless he was aiming some of his antics at you personally.

I think what Clyde didn't like about Barkley was Charles' lack of professionalism on the court. Barkley was more of a free-lance artist on the court. Also, the fact that Charles was not known for having any sort of off-season regiment. Now, that is pure speculation, but to me, it makes some sense as to at least the basis for their lack of cohesion.

I just get flushed and red thinking about someone disrespecting the Dream.....

Well if Barkley tells it like it is and he has repeatedly said that hakeem was the most honorable person he's ever played with, then is hakeem sneaky and you can't trust him and does barkley not tell it like it is or is hakeem honorable and barkley is telling it like it is.

What the hell is a surprise about Clyde Drexler not answering a question? The man is a ninja. "No Quote Clyde" is my favorite!! Hell, I would have propped him up for keeping in shape.

    Example:

1996 All Star Game interview during warmups:
Hannah Storm: "How did it feel to come home and win a championship last year?"
The Glide: (big perma-smile) "It is a true honor. Being selected to the All Start Squad is always a thrill and a privelege, and the players here are terrific."
Hannah Storm: "DId it mean something speical to win a ring with Hakeem Olajuwon?"
The Glide: (big perma-smile) "It should be a good game. With so many great players, you're bound to have fun."
    Hannah: "Back to you, Bob"
    -----------------------------------
    Post Game Interview
Gene Peterson: "Well, Clyde, you made a terrific comeback in the third quarter and held tough in the fourth. Tell me about how you guys worked your way out of the shooting slump in the first half."
Clyde: "Well it was a hard fought, victorious battle ... for both teams."

He did it to me once too in a media-day interview. I had a little recorder and could not believe how he re-directed the whole thing. I started in with some question about social responsiblity and athletes, and he went off about parenting and the Western Conference. I was dazed. THIS MAN IS A GENIUS -- BOW BEFORE HIM.

Clyde is a real charmer, actually, very empathic looking, makes eye contact; smart guy. He does not need to deal with anyone he does not want to. I would guess HP is now on that list. Welcome and take a number. I can imagine he will not remember you dogging him any better than he will remember me kissing his ass. I think he'll be fine.

Fromobile: Didn't you take out Willow Bay and David Stern in one similar fell swoop during the 95 Finals? Do tell.
