    look at it this way...

at least this shows us who the true diehards are.

on a related note...anyone up for some ritual human sacrifices to the gods of karma and luck?
I can think of a few "so-called" fans that should be first in line. :p

Usually revisionist history leaves the facts alone and just reinterprets them.

But apparently, for michellexiao, a 6-10 guy with a pretty good head of hair is easily mistaken for the 5-9 guy with a bad combover.

Rudy only coached Yao his rookie year. Shaq only played in 2 of the games that season, in which he hung Yao for 31-13 and 39-5. Meanwhile, Yao responded with 10-10 and 6-10 on a combined 8-27 shooting.

But that's besides the point. I do like this version of history where Rudy T leads the Rockets back into the playoffs as a last hurrah. Too bad it didn't happen.

Not at all. In fact, once I took a look at the composition of this team at the beginning of the season, I actually lowered my expectations because I felt that they had not done enough to address their weaknesses at the guard & forward positions. That's why I can be so calm and objective about this disaster of a season because I actually did not expect them to be serious contenders in the West. Now, I did not expect them to be this bad but the fact that they are due to the numerous injuries does not surprise me in the least because this was a team that was not built to handle injuries well at all. At any rate, there's nothing much that can be done at this stage but wait for the injured players to heal and then we'll see if their original strategy was a sound one or not.

I do miss Rudy, I loved the guy. He probably wasn't the best coach for Francis, et al, but he coached the team to two NBA championships and was one of the team's greatest players.

I don't miss the Francis team, they were frustrating to watch when they were winning. And they missed the playoffs for four straight years.

I don't miss it because I have never seen a star in this town treated worse. For example, everyone talks abou them missing the playoffs ignoring the fact that they were above .500 teams and one year, Francis's second year in the league they won 45 games, the highest total in League history to miss the playoffs.

I hope they all move on to more grateful fans. I couldn't stand the b****ing anymore even after wins.

I miss Rudy mainly for everything he did for Houston but I will say that I think JVG is a smarter coach than Rudy, that doesn't mean better but I think JVG knows more. Rudy was more a motivator than coach whereas JVG seems to be more cerebral. IMO this made it bad for Rudy to be coaching Francis and Cat early on when they should've had a disciplinarian but ironically I think Rudy would've done better with years and last year's team since he seemed to have a good feel for getting the most out of older more experienced players.

I sometimes miss the Francis and Cat team too and think they should've been given another season under JVG to gel. T-Mac is certainly a better player than Francis but I'm not sure if talent wise the team since then is better overall. If you look at the playoffs and the second half of the last Francis season you started to see the Rox play a crisper and very tough. I don't have the stats but I believe that the Rox D was better under the last Francis team because it seems like the Rox were able to keep opponents in the 70's while these days even with both Yao and T-Mac opponents score routinely in the 90's. Also the last Francis team seemed to play much more like what people expect out of a JVG team able to grind it out better with more balanced scoring.

Unfortunately there's no way of knowing how the Rox would do if the Francis team had stuck around or Rudy so its all just speculation. We've got the team and coach that we got and have to hope for the best.

I miss Rudy and his uncanny ability to find guys from the CBA who would fit this team perfectly. He was great at finding scrubs who fit in as great shooters, guys like Sam Mack and Matt Bullard. Unfortunately, he also liked signing them to 10 year multimillion dollar contracts.

    I also miss Mike James.

Rudy and somebody who might have been Bill Berry were at TC last night in the press row, I guess scouting for the lakers or something. As were Van Chancellor and little Niko.

He only made it because he was in Houston. What has he done in Orlando? When I think of allstar, I think of players like Tmac, Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, Nash etc.

That's odd. I think of Jayson Williams, Otis Thorpe, Kelly Tripucka, Tom Chambers, and KiKi Vandeweghe. Actually some times I think of Super Dave Osborne but I'm not sure why.

I miss the healthy Tmac and Yao and mike james. If they were healthy, and if we still had Mike James, this thread would have never been started and we'd be well above .500

I don't wanna go there but Steve deserved the Allstar games he went to as a Rocket. He put up the numbers, not his fault his supporting cast sucked and they BARELY missed the playoffs those years. No one is criticizing Lebron for never making the playoffs, or Elton Brand, who is FINALLY helping a team be a winner (Cassell and Mobley have alot to do with that though), or Shareef for that matter.

Pgabriel is right, no star athlete in Houston has ever been treated as badly as Steve was for his play. The guy couldn't do anything without it being hated on his last 2 seasons here. He was blamed for everything from team weaknesses to the smog problem in the city yet David Carr gets a free pass (yeah there is alittle Carr bashing here and there but no where near the extent Steve got). There would be hours of shows devoted to Steve bashing his last season here in Houston (610). It was hate steve radio all day long (not the hosts fault but callers who would call to hate, although the hosts usually agreed). I like Carr, but he is getting off way too easy compared to the treatment Stevie got.

Anyways, can we just enjoy the greatness we will have once T-Mac and Yao are back 2gether again? Why dwell in the past all the time?
